I like this option i had old a boss multi effects pedal and didnt like how it changed the tone of my tube amp when I plugged it directly in the front of the amp. I love how you play that U2 type stuff with echo, superb playing.
Q: I'd like to combine the ME unit with a pedal (Fortin GRIND) - where is the optimal position for this pedal in the 4CM chain, as described in this video?
Perhaps you can help me out. I’d like to use an effects unit with my valve amplifier. I want to use the amp simulations and distortions from the effects unit. Should I bypass the the valve amps preamp? I’d like to use the preamp from the valve amp but I don’t want the valve amps EQ setting to have any effect on the effect unit. I hope that makes sense, thank you for your time.
I know that the conventional way to use 4 cable method with multi-effects is to start with the guitar into the multi-effect input, then from the send to the amp input, then from the amp send to the multi-effect return, then from the multi-effect output to the amp return. However, what are the pros/cons of doing it backwards? (Ie, start with guitar into the amp input, then amp send to multi-effect input, then multi-effect send to amp return, then amp send to multi-effect return, then multi-effect output to DI/speakers?)
Hi - I’m using this method with a line 6 M13, and a Marshall Silver Jubilee. I set it up using 4x brand new high quality cables... straight away as soon as turn on the amp, I’ve got a really prominent and annoying ‘hum’. It’s deep sounding and overbearing. Any thoughts on what this could be, and how I can remedy it? Because I don’t hear this on any other TH-cam demo’s I’ve seen. I’ve followed directions to the letter.
so if im using old multieffect that doesnt allow much in changing the position of effects, i'm fucked? im trying to make my zoom g9.2tt to sound decent but distortion just sounds the best without the damn thing plugged in. and i've tried countless ways.
Hello, I really need some help, I connected Fender Hotrod with my HX Effect in 4 cable method and and I lost the ability to use volume on amp. It can't go higher or lower volume. The hx effects controls the volume…. Is there a setting that I need to change on the HX effect so that I can use the controls/volume on my Amp? Thanks for any assistance
When I do this with my Boss GT-5 my Boogie amp preamp dials have no effect and the tone is dulled. Is that normal? Is it because the output of the effects goes straight to the return (power amp) bypassing the preamp? Confusing - any help welcome:)
Hi Sam. Great video ! I am having a problem with my sound effects chain and wondered if you could help me please ? Also your advice will obviously help other followers of your channel with a similar problem. I have a noise suppression pedal - a Zoom G3xn - a circle looper which features a drum machine. I’ve connected them up without using send & returns by simple daisy chain and it’s all ok until I hit drum machine which outputs too high a volume. Any advice will be much appreciated Sam. Best Regards - Eddie
So if you’re using the multi pedal to position your pedals on a selected amp from the pedalboard do you just plug the board straight into the front of your amp? Or is there another way where it just uses the amp as a cab? I have a headrush by the way though I haven’t used it yet as it arrived while I’m on holiday.
I have an old DigiTech RP1 and a Randall RG1503 2x12. When I try to use the effects loop it kills the overdrive completely. No distortion whatsoever. Completely clean. Switching does nothing. Am I doing something wrong?
Tone suck would be from the capacitance of the cables themselves creating a kind of dampening effect of lowered treble or brightness. I assume that multi-effects like this have a buffer effect of some description which would counteract this but using low capacitance cables would not hurt.
Can you describe what we look for in the tech specs online to ensure it does the “reposition in the effects signal chain” when choosing a multi effects pedal, the two you’re mentioning are quite expensive.
I just bought a fuzz pedal and ge 150 multi fx processor and I want to use them both at the same time so I can use the fuzz with all the effects etc. But I don't know exactly how to connect them and which wire goes through were. Can SOMEONE pls HELP? 😊
I have a GT 1000 that I set up with the four cable method now I have three overdrives a synth pedal and the little looper how do I now get these incorporated into my sound does anybody know
hello i have a fender champion 100 amp but it doesn't have the return and send jacks. How can i get around this? Is there a bypass switcher that I can purchase instead of trying to install a return send switch? THANK YOU!!!
No you need to be able to send certain effects to be BEFORE the amp preamp circuits and some to be AFTER it otherwise it wont work. This video shows how the signal is being routed before, thru and after the amp. Upgrade to a better amp or FRFR speaker is better if you want to use multieffects / modeler units.
There is one thing I still don't understand. Is it bad if I let the send and return between the noise gate and the phraser out, because the pre-amp effects like distortion come first and then the post-amp effects like delay or reverb will aply after this pre amp effects. Ps: Sorry for my englisch. Not a native speaker
Recently bought the helix Lt but have no clue why I’m not getting sound from my amp I plugged in all the cables and clicked preset but still got no sound anyone know what I’m doing wrong
How can you switch from one tone preset to another while playing live? Are you going to turn the tone selector with your fingers while playing live? Or can you do it with your foot while playing live? Anyone? Thanks!
i have a question....so i have a zoom multieffect and i wanna use the effects (delay, reverb, etc) but also use an 808 as a booster and a boss noise sup...so what do i do? connect the 808 to NS then to the input of the zoom and do fx loop connection?
The one thing no one ever really discusses on these types of videos is how to manage the mess of cables resulting from running 4 cables to and from your guitar --->pedalboard comp&gain stages--->amp front input--out effects send--->effects pedals--->effects return... The set up creates alot of cables to trip over on stage.. I've just run into the amp input for years, but I want the sound to be the best quality for effects like delay, trem, modulation etc. It's just kind of a pain. I guess a snake or 2-3 channel cable would help... I'm a guitarist& front man so having Fx-loop pedals near the amp (or on top like I've seen some guitarists do...) doesn't work for me, it needs to all be switchable at my feet from near my mic stand.
My band just uses gaffer tape to create our multi cables. We get 4 cables of different color and the same length and just tape them together leaving about a foot at the end to spread cables as they need.
So far I haven't seen anyone explain or demonstrate how to setup two amps running in true stereo (7 cable method) where you can still control both amps pre amps.
anyone know why the effects in the effects loop are just nothing, like no signal, everything in the front works perfect, even the 4 cable method factory presets are the same
Your video is by far the BEST video i've seen explaining and demonstrating why and how to get 4CM on my multieffect!
One of the BEST explanation videos on the 4CM I have seen. great visuals and tutorial. Awesome. Keep it up!
just two words man: THANK YOU !
Explanation starts at 2:15
thanks
these effects loop videos are by far the best on youtube.
By far the best 4CM video on TH-cam 🤘
Thanks a lot, has been a revelation to me, i did'nt knew my modest amp and multieffects could sounds this good!!! Thanks again man!!!
this is by far the best explanation about 4-cable method.
Great explanation, really easy to follow and replicate what is most important. Well done mate!

I have the same question.
Thank you very much... I now have a full understanding of how this works. Thank you
Thank you for the info , so many years wondering what the send and return function does hahaha
Thanks

Informative and helpful. I’ll check some of these out 😊🎸
Does the Donner Arena 2000 have the send and return loop? If not how do I connect it to my amp
Could you do one using the hx effects to control the black star channels?
That was a great explanation. Thank you!
Great video mate! Could you tell me if the Headrush MX5 can be set up with this method?

Very informative. Could you do a similar video with the Boss-ME80? Cheers
The ME-80 doesn't have send/return outs so it doesn't seem like this method would work.
@@RIK0SUAVE so how would it work with multi-fx without send out like Boss GT-1?
Thanks in advance

Is there a milti effect pedal that is just for the FX loop? Chorus, delay, faser, whammy?
I dont need distortions or boost with peavey 6505+

Hi, Thanks for the video. What was the position of the switch on the blackstar -10db or +4db. Does that position change anything on the sound ?
What type of cable would be best going from a modeler to a power amp? Speaker or instrument cable?

Does anybody know for multi-fx without send out like Boss-GT1, how would this method work?
I have line 6 pod hd 500x and i would like to know that is fx loop and fx send return same ?
Very helpful video! Thank you sir !
Please demo the same with the Mooer GE300
great explanation most of these demos make it so complicated
Can't you use the pedals input and output in place of send and return

can you plug the line 6 hx effects using only 2 cabels, without having to connect the cabels to an fx loop? thanks for the help!!

You videos are pure awesome!
Wish any of these videos e planned how TF it’s ideal to design your signal chain with 4cm
Crucial question! How can I connect a boss loop station with a multi processor like boss gt8 with a 4CM? Can't find an answer online

I don't know whats your budget, but have a look at the new Line6 Pod GO
. Or you could look for a used Helix LT. Hope that helps :)

Is there any danger to the tube amp with this method?0for example maxing out the amp volume but having the multieffects volume low ?
Can some one recommend me a video to understand this in deep , why sending affects apart ? Etc
How do you hook up a loop pedal to an amp? Using the effects loop?
I am now enlightened

Can the Boss GT-1 be setup to run the 4 cable method?
Nevermind I see it doesn't have a send & return on it..... Bummer
What if I just want to use the amp's speaker? The amp is self is a POS but the speaker sounds quite good.
Simply connect the output of the pedalboard on PWR IN or SEND of your amp...worked for me!
Where will you put the volume pedal? After the multi fx or before?
Volume goes at the very beginning - Lee

Little bit of "Insomnia - Feeder" in there at 6:05 I feel....
Can I use audio snake cable instead of individual instrument cable?
Well damn....my boss me 50 has no send or return....time for an upgrade!....😁
