  • So you want to install an M.2 SSD in your laptop? We don't blame you. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of ditching an ageing hard drive or SATA SSD for a speedy, high-capacity, NVMe SSD fit for your entire game library and a little more.
But how do you go about this great feat? Well, it’s all rather simple, actually. You should be done in well under half an hour if you follow our simple steps. So let’s get right to it.

is there a way to do it directly from HDD to M.2 with the 2 installed at the same time?

  • @WillsJazzLoft

It should be noted that the use of an external enclosure will likely result in a decline in bus/transfer speed. Conceptually, the m.2 came about in order to take advantage of the blistering speed afforded by the PCIe bus. And that's a speed which by some measure is conceivably 10x faster than internal SATA.

Thank you, extremely helpful, plus the 1950's BBC announcer proper accent!, no abominable pronunciation of TH-cam as "YouToob", what with Americans irrational hatred of the letter "U", thanks Dude...I mean Dood, (Embrace the diversity, like it or not!)

I wouldn't use a third party software. Because I can do it with Windows for free using 2 devices!

I wish major laptop manufacturers such as HP didnt use SSD M2s screwed to the chasis of thin flimsy plastic laptops than mean if you pick up a 15" laptop from the corner... Crack! SDD KAPUT!

First you should have shown how the hell you unscrew the laptop to get to the stuff inside. Next you should slow down and step by step show what to do. Very confusing. I learnt nothing.

If the process is exactly similar for a desktop, then this tutorial has some shockingly absent steps...namely, after installing the M.2 stick, you must format it, otherwise windows will not see it and you'll be left scratching your head wondering if you bought something incompatible. Go to Run, type in: diskmgmt.msc ...look for a drive with a black bar on it and the word 'unallocated'...that will be your new drive. Right click on it to start the steps to format it. Downright baffling why this video creator made a tutorial about this without including this crucial information.

So much unnecessary commentary before he gets to the point.
