Wow!! I am not going to lie. It had been awhile since I had taken a laptop apart to do any work on it. My eyes are not what they used to be. I was pretty certain the hard drive was shot in my HP. After watching your video the first time I said to myself, "why not give it a shot"? For $31 total from Amazon I got a tool kit and SSD hard drive. You made the rest easy. Can't thank you enough!!

While you were getting the install going I am sitting here with my pen in hand, biting my nails, making notes of what to do if I run into the same situation. Great video. You only spoke on what was necessary for this video. Very clear and straight to the mission. Really enjoyed this video! Thank you.

Bought one of these several months ago. The first thing I did was to wipe out Windows and install Linux Mint 20, now 20.1. Heads up about that, you'll need either a USB wifi to install the drivers for the Realtek wifi card or look around for the .deb file and type in a couple of commands to get that working. Other than that Linux Mint XFCE works great on this lap top.

got the ryzen version of this today. going to put a 1tb 980 pro in it and 32 gb vengeance kit. the ryzen 5000 series came with an nvme pcie m.2 but only 256gb. going to have to run a usb hub in it with only 2 usb slots but nice looking laptop for my wife. i wish i could put in an ssd for an acronis restore disk as well but i dont seen any sata ports. but she loves it so far. i was able to duplicate all her settings and get all her preferences setup easily enough. the win 10 downgrade was a pain because i had to allow windows 11 to update before i could get the pc out of S-Mode before i could start the windows 10 install. other than that it went simply enough. all the drivers were grabbed in the install process. the radeon graphics driver was a wrong version but it worked well enough to get the right version installed. still waiting to open the case until the ram comes in the mail. i can say i hate its keyboard. i never liked blister keyboards and this one is particularly squishy feeling and lack a feeling of confidence of they keys actually getting pushed. The 6 core 12 thread cpu is nice much better then the 2 core systems i still see out there and the machine boots up pretty fast and little lag in input. for a low cost laptop its very good and its shortcomings are to be expected at the price. i just hope they make replacement keyboards available as i see having to replace it many times over the next several years. for my wifes purposes of email and browsing its perfect. the screen is remarkably clear for this tier computer as well. thanks for the video it will come in handy in the next few days when i do the upgrade.

i don't understand why they put a huge massive empty space in such a cramped laptop and then didn t even put some kind of port for putting another ssd. I would like to buy this pc (amd type) but this lack of second ssd port is killing me. do you think that putting a permanent 512 SD installed in the dedicated slot would be a viable solution for adding some space? just guessing

This was nothing. Many laptops are much more difficult to open. My biggest concern was the rubber feet. Not common to hide the screws under removable rubber strips.

When i upgraded my acer a while ago, first of all it was so much easier to open up, no prying was involved (probably why theyre so flimsy) but i completely forgot to disconnect the battery. i only shut it down. still worked fine tho and the added HDD and +8gb ram all worked after that. But good thing to keep in mind now.

Hi sir, first of all, thanks for your videos! they are awesome, new subscriber here. I just bought a entrylevel laptop from HP, a 15s-fq0008sl (celeron n4120 with 4gb, 128gb m2 sata drive). I read the hp service manual and found this series (and also found a brandnew model named 15s-fq0006sl with apparently the same hw platform that comes with nvme one) is capable of run nvme drives. Given this, still you suggest to use a sata m2 drive or think it could work fine with the mvne? would I notice the differences in performances in this particular setup, with a n4120 cpu and 1 channel 8gb ram, or better stay with a bigger m2 sata ssd? thanks in advance and greetings from italy

Help! I bought a new HP Envy 17 cg0003ca with 256 GB SSD and 1 TB HDD from Costco. It comes pre-installed with an HP-branded Windows 10 Home.
I tried to make this laptop dual boot with Windows 10 Pro. But it crashes with a blue screen “Your PC/Device needs to be repaired” error code: 0x000000e. 👎 (I did the exact same dual boot set-up on my Dell laptop and did not have any issue.)
Could this have anything to do with the HP-branded Windows 10 Home version that is pre-installed with the HP Envy 17? Do I need to reformat the whole hard drive and install a clean Windows 10 Pro base OS in order to do dual boot on this HP Envy 17? PLEASE HELP! 🙏

The virtue of clean install from media creation tool is that you do not carry all the malware and baggage from previous user, However you lost all the user apps and data and the HP recovery tools. It is probably better to close the SSD in mst situations.

Hello Cadillac from England, quick question, the Corsair Vengeance you upgraded to, was it 2666mhz or 2400mhz?. The reason why i ask is when you opened task manager after you'd finished, it showed 2400mhz for the memory. Cheers.

Thanks for watching. I believe it was 2400mhz. The factory ram was 2400. Lot of those models only support 2400. 2666 will work though, may just clock down. Thx

@@CadillacComputerCenter , Thank's for the quick reply. Ok, i bought some 2400mhz 2 x 8gb corsair vengeance for an older HP laptop as an upgrade that had standard 2400mhz memory in it, but it didn't like it one bit. I have another HP, model number 15s-fq1505na, which is 2 years old nearly, that has 4gb 2666mhz as standard, so in theory the corsair i have should be ok. Cheers.

      RAM, nothing.
SSD, everything. You might even consider cloning the drive

What do you use to stick the rubber grip back under the laptop? Does it stay sticky enough to put back? Do you apply glue or something? You didn't reapply them back in the vid.

Usually there is enough adhesive left on the strip to re apply. If not , just use a few tiny specs of super glue on the ends and one or two in the middle.

Just be careful peeling it up. Make sure you get under it all the way or you will peel the rubber off and leave the tape

@@PigeonAndMe Thank you! That was the conclusion I was reaching. I changed the main battery and it's like 90% better but I got worried when it started boot looping again.

@@TheKaliedescope I think that's not authentic products from Hp. Please remove that battery. one part of your battery will blast very soon.
