Actually this content requires an update as I was already using a M.2 NVME on my now retired FX based system using a PCIe card as the motherboard lacked M.2, but Windows 10 supports it. I'm pretty sure it is also supported by the linux kernels and distro's. Please note that I am not saying incorrect, but requires an update due to the statement at about the 6 minute time mark. Provisioning has come a long way also. I also used PrimoCache and RAMDisk's on my system as it had 32G DDR3 @ 1600 which most people didn't have much experience with about five years ago. But that's probably covered in a different video I'll assume. But good coverage, thank you. :)

Kenneth, m.2 is just a different form factor. That's it. In fact, most M.2 SSD still use Sata III. Some of the newer ones use Pci-e but they are less common and more expensive. The one in my Thinkpad laptop uses Pci-e. I could of used an old school 2.5" SSD with a convertor cable if I wanted. It'd just auto- switch over to the SATA controller when its hooked up if I did. I chose to use an M.2 SSD though. The M.2 SSD is a little less lighter, it gives me more open space for airflow, and PCI-e is faster than Sata.

First of all I want to congratulate and thank you for this video. This video is by far the most illuminating and most clear video I have ever watched on youtube these days about clearing what M.2 NVMe and what it is NOT! Having watched at least a dozen videos on the issue, it is only this video which cleared out everything that was under the wraps in my mind. I think the powerful sides of this video are: 1) perfect animations 2) quite clear and slow description of things (many videos on youtube do not understand they are explaining the material i) to non-technical people ii) to technical people but who do not have much expertise in the area iii)to people whose mother tongue is not English) 3) sufficient information (not too much, not too less) 4) and just the technical information well balanced without any babbling, silly jokes or stupid phrases appearing every now and then- once again thanks and keep up the good work.
Wow. You explained this technology very well. As an IT professional, I am not immune to learning about new concepts and technologies. I was going to purchase the Samsung 970 pro PCIe but went with the Crucial 1TB PCIe to save money. They both have good reviews so I am hoping to have great success with the Crucial. I've decided to subscribe to your channel and am looking forward to your videos. Thank you.
Your video is well done. It is informative, interesting, and easy to understand. I am sure most people appreciate this type of explanation as much as I do. I have a technical background but I am not impressed when someone throws dozens of acronyms around in an attempt to show intelligence. It reminds me of the military. Side note: Someone told me that while he was in the service, he told his boss the same thing every morning. It was this. "Hey Sarge, I'm heading down to HQ for C&D." Sounding official, his boss agreed and knew the trip would take the customary 2 hours. It ended after 18 months when the Sargent asked "What is C&D ?" Oh, he replied, Coffee and Donuts. I look forward to watching more of your videos. G

Glad to see you recommend the M.2 I had my eyes on. Though I'm waiting for it to come out in the 2TB model (April 2019?) I would have like for you to add some info on issues that some mobos seem to have where you have to "decide" which PCIe M.2 adapter to use - as they share the bus with one of the PCIe expansion slots (apparently my Asus Z170 has this issue).
Guys, your video are just realllyyy awesome, I'm a technician on computers and I can't barely explain things like these as perfect as yours to my customer, which basically have low knowledge of computer technologies, a KUDOS to you guys.
My diy external ssd have 2.5gbps transfer rate, 100gb done in 6 minutes. I spent only like 60 bucks for it. I'm so amazed i have to know how it works. Thanks, great video.
@fukthegoog You could, but the price per GB means it's not a great option for most people. A common reason to do it is that you want a really fast drive to work with large data sets or for video editing. For most people application and OS on a SATA SSD and an HDD for bulk storage tends to provide a good experience at a relatively cheap price.
You didn't apply for the stimulus check? I didn't think I was going to get one but someone kept telling me to go for it. 1:54 the computer illustration he used brings back memories
Thank you.
How did that crucial m.2 work 4 u,,, im considering the same
Thank you for this video! This is the first one I've seen that actually explains what NVMe MEANS! Incredibly useful!
I searched everywhere in internet to explain in simple terms. Nothing beats your video. Simple to the point.

Thank you :)
Haven’t watched this video yet, but I’m happy just to see you still create TH-cam content. Studying your latest CompTIA A+ video at the moment & love it. Exam scheduled for August 30th. Thank you.
Thanks :)
How much time you been studying for the exam bro?
Francisco Santos Sad to say, but I’ve been studying for probably 5-6 months. Due to bouncing around from different study materials, while also trying to figure out the best way for ME to learn caused a major delay in achieving the cert.
@@PMPHUSTLE - Good luck on exam
Excellent technical information and I'm astounded by the art and production of this video. Engaging and informative. Fantastic video.
Thank you. :)
Impressive animated video och very good explanation, very educational. Better than most schools.
Woooooooooooowwww! Was searching internet for a while about all this buzz regarding m.2 and nvme. This is by far the MOST eloborated and best explaination I found. Now I know, thank you so much! Big time
I have watched a few of your videos now and find them the most clear and concise videos on tech - ever! Excellent and thank you very much.
Amazing
I wasn t getting a grasp of the notion but know everything is just clear you re the best that s gonna help for my tomorrow's exam
Probably the best video on any computer subject that I have ever seen.
WONDERFUL VIDEO! I'm an Old Dog and was wondering what the heck was up with all these new M.2 drives. Now I'm with the program! Very simply put, straight forward, I can now regurgitate that I learned here and not sound like I'm from last century! I guess you can teach Old Dogs new tricks!
just heard about m.2 through a live stream and ordered one right away. actual game changer, my games run so much better now
WoW!!
This must be the 1st & only video about different ssd's worth a 👏!!
Very well explained
thanks powercert. i always wondered what the difference was. these videos have taught me so much. im currently studying for the 901 and 902 and the visual representations have really helped me. thanks again.
me to this is very good
Very complex topic to explain in a simple way.
This video is expressive and without confusion the best. New subscriber here
Thanks :)
"Non volatile memory express". First time i heard what nvme stands for. Every day i learn something new.
imma business major, so when he said "its fast" it was considerate how he dumbed it down for other people like me
Your video convinced me to get the NVME and I love it. Can confirm 3500MBps!
Nice....Thank you.
M.2 NVMe SSD that I recommend amzn.to/2VO7E1G
TRANSFERRED.
AWESOME video explanation! I appreciate your time for creating this explainer video. Prior to this, I didn't now what the big deal was about microSD's vs SATA, vs NVMe SSD's.
Why is the price on that page so high, even compared to newer models of Samsung M.2 NVMe SSDs?
im using samsung 990 pro and it is very fast
you need to update your description, the samsung 970 is a snail compared to the WD BLACK sn850x
The best way to simplify an idea is to use animation. Thanks for your hard work man.
Thanks a lot for making this video it’s vey informative and helping to extend my mac with more disk space
One of the best explanations I've heard and seen so far, keep up the good work!!!!👌👌👌👍👍👍👏👏👏
Love this. Feels like I'm back in class learning something new from the subject that I like. Thanks.
Accidentally this video came in my recommendation today while I'm searching how to build a PC 4days ago due to TH-cam algorithm. For past few weeks i got so many doubts and i was not clear how to build a PC. Your content was very clear that i have no doubts. Please do keep up your work and thanks a lot for your valuable videos.

Great explanation of this slot. I'm upgrading my 10yr workstation soon ❤️
Works perfectly on my Macbook pro mid 2010! Thanks a lot! Way better than cloning
God bless those animations, how much time did you spent ? Great work ! Thanks for the video
"Or in other words, it's fast" :D:D:D
Amazing video that clarifies a lot, keep it up.
5 years later, I can't believe how dirt cheap 2 Tb m.2 drives have become. It's like they are one their way out to make room for the next big storage technology
Dude you have the BEST VIDEOS I have ever seen on any social media platform. I was thinking today while watching people just talking using no graphics to show us what they are talking about and I hate listening to people on a video and all we see them do is talk with just their MOUTH FACE and no graphics.
Your voice and the way you teach, is making faster to save to my brain.
Just like m.2
Awesome !! I'm already a great fan of your videos !! They've helped me in understanding important Hardware and Networking concepts much quickly and easily !! Thanks and keep making such awesome educational videos.
Thank you.
Dude you are just Brilliant! I want to meet you and thank you for educating me everyday. I’ve watched the RAM video almost 10 times. I want to know how to explain technology exactly like you do! You are a MASTER! Thank you soooo soooo much! When I pass my A+ ... I will have you to thank for sure !
Thank you :)
Love your channel, you make everything so easy to understand when you explain and use simple animation.
Wish you was my teacher back when I was in school. Keep up the excellent work and learn us how stuffs works.
Looks like a 80's 4:3 video... but the content is very accurate and clear ! nice job !
This is the kind of special channel you hope would exist when you think of "TH-cam" as a whole. This is the very definition of looking up helping and finding it when you need it in a simple easy to digest format.
that moment, when he just say "it mean, Its fast" that just what i need after wandering on internet for few hours
Super nice and easy video and animation that explains everything in a super easy way. Love it!
Amazing video. This is phenomenal the level of clarity
Just had a technogasm...
Loving my 2TB NVME M.2 PCIE ($200 at MicroCenter). I reinstalled my OS onto it when I got it. Life is great!
This is gold....pure gold...thank you.
Thanks
Me: Watching using my old solid state drive
Another Me: I'll buy it when its cheap after few more years.
Amazing explanation sir. Your video helped me a lot to understand SATA & M.2 properly... Thanks a lot sir..
Thanks for making this video. I'm so glad that I watch this before buying a new CPU.. This vid really helps a lot!
Guys, your video are just realllyyy awesome, I'm a technician on computers and I can't barely explain things like these as perfect as yours to my customer, which basically have low knowledge of computer technologies, a KUDOS to you guys.
Simply amazing on how you explained everything.
Wow, just WOW... i`m speechless, from this video i`ve learned the difference between SSD SATA and SSD NVMe M.2 which i didn`t know it... Thank you!
The best video explaining SSD.
Thanks
As everybody else here has already commented; great, informative video which provided all of the info I needed and then some.
My diy external ssd have 2.5gbps transfer rate, 100gb done in 6 minutes. I spent only like 60 bucks for it. I'm so amazed i have to know how it works. Thanks, great video.
Thank you for that explanation! I'm no longer confused! 👍😎
Forgot to say that if your mother don't have M2 interface you an buy an adapter that connects in the PCI Express slot and have M2 interfaces..
Good point.
However depending of the chip-set the bios may not support boot from NVMe. (though some drives include an option ROM that can get around that. )
@fukthegoog
You could, but the price per GB means it's not a great option for most people. A common reason to do it is that you want a really fast drive to work with large data sets or for video editing.
For most people application and OS on a SATA SSD and an HDD for bulk storage tends to provide a good experience at a relatively cheap price.
me: too poor to afford an ssd
youtube: let's recommend it
One day.
One day...
You didn't apply for the stimulus check? I didn't think I was going to get one but someone kept telling me to go for it. Finally did, got $1200 in the mail, finally bought myself an actual gaming rig.
Now I game with the big boys.
But seriously, I'm so happy I can finally play stalker at max settings, man, I had no idea what I was missing out on.
I am new to all of this at age 67! Thank you for your excellent work! You get a comment and a like!
This channel nailed visual learning, wow
This was fantastic : a perfect explanation thank you !
Thank you so much. Very informative. Your channel really good. Love it.
Thanks.
Realmente muy buen video. Expicación clara y concisa. Además de un inglés perfectamente entendible.
Greetings!
straight to the point, informative, good video all around, man.
Thank you so much for this video. I've been trying to understand M.2/NVME for ages and haven't been able to find a video that explained it in a straight forward way. I appreciate how you broke it down.
Big Fan Here! 🤗 Need to create these kinds of animations for different purpose, Kindly suggest which program should I use to get such results?
Soon we will see M.2 drives pre-intalled by MOBO manufacturers.
doubtful
why bother just add a 32/64 gb nand flash like a soc ;)
The bast teaching..vary well made video series..thank
Very nice job. I work with SolidWorks, 'nuff said. One thing is to mention PCIe 3 or 4. Just switched and the speed is incredible.
Thank you very much! 😊👍It not easy to investigate without assistance. Especially for ordinary user whom not no much about it. Before this video I be sure that M2SSD and Nvme is different. And now I understand that they all M2, but some of them + support Nvme (PCI express) for more high speed and some not.
