I'm going with he's probably the general's son. That's why he's got the attitude about officers. Probably also talking about his father in relation to that story about an uptight officer. And Nilfgardian military has a lot of of family lineage play in it. No doubt the only reason he joined.
Yeah that would explain why he even gave the name Rhosyn. If you're a Nilfgaardian trying to hide amongst Temerians, using the name of the Nilfgaardian responsible for the most recent battle seems like the dumbest possible plan. That is, unless you didn't think it through, because you didn't know your father had posters with your last name nailed to trees in destroyed villages. Also, makes more sense he'd try to desert if he was closer to grunt level. If he was a general, once he's recovered enough from his wounds to travel back to Nilfgaard's battle lines he'd have a position likely waiting for him. It's not desertion if you were badly wounded and still came back asap. Would he have been demoted for losing the battle? Probably. But he wouldn't be executed. A grunt on the other hand will just get thrown onto the front lines of the next battle. At that point you might as well take your chances with the Temerians.

Always thought xletalis would've found all those thigns, but...apparently there's space for more genius and patient detectives for W3. Can't wait for the next one!
I suspect he is abandoning his post due to the failure at that battle. As we later learn, the war is not going well for both sides and the offensives have only led to a bitter stalemate for both sides. That sort of failure is not acceptable to kings who demand results. He probably fled the battle, put on a dead soldier's armor, and decided to help the first peasant he could. Once the war is over and the armies have moved on he will likely move on to somewhere else. He just has to pass for a peasant until he goes back home.
Oddly enough there's something similar in the books where some high-ranking officers abandoned their posts and disguised themselves in civilians' clothes.
Exactly, if he’d have wanted to hide behind a dead soldier’s armor, he could’ve taken a temerian one, and wouldn’t have revealed his name that could be easily found on the trees nearby.
Also to note about the Nilfgaardian, something that may show he actually IS that higher ranking one that ordered those deaths, is that typically lower ranking Nilfgaardian soldiers don't speak the Northern language. The higher ranking ones learned the language to communicate with the "savage Northerners". This guy speaks the language pretty damn well which would be quite odd if he's just some "grunt".
Not quite. Nilfgaardian empire consist of lands speaking common too, like Ebbin, Gheso, Toussaint or Cintra. Pure Nilfgaardian is spoken mostly at Alba, in the center of the Empire, but grunts are drafted from everywhere, so Nilfgaardians speaking only nilfgaardian are minority.

I'm speechless. They put every possible outcome and eventuality for a small side quest. Remarkable. And even more astounding for you to manage to break the details down.
Games almost always start strongest. Then, over time they become worse. Lowered quality and more pointless filler. Like the massive map after White Orchard with a lot of (grass)filler and more generic locations, followed by Skellige with even more (water)filler. With The Witcher 3 this is less apparent but still existent.
Honestly the effort that went into making this game was insane. Almost a decade after release we're still hearing about little things the Devs left for us to find. Nice find mate and thanks for sharing
This is one of the things I really like about Witcher 3, the way that you can start quests not how the game "intented" and still be able to complete them, reminds me of exploring Velen and finding the Orphans without even looking for the Trail of Treats as I never had that as an objective.
True. Unlike in other games where the NPCs and enemies required for a quest only spawn when the quest gets activated. That doesn't happen that often in the witcher.
One of my favourite moments of my first playthrough was when I stumbled on the tower on Fyke Isle while exploring, before ever even speaking to Keira Metz. Just an ominous tower full of rats, weird clouds of green mist, disembodied sobbing, and random poltergeist activity, with absolutely no clue as to why any of it was happening. Obviously coming back to do the quest later cleared things up, but I’m so glad I got to do a haunted house tour without the context.
@@RainWelsh Exactly that! And there are so many other games where you want to take a shortcut, go to the dungeon in question and there is like nothing there.
@@RainWelsh there's even a small piece of dialogue from geralt in his conversation with keira if you go to fyke island first. Keira says that the villagers say that anyone who goes to fyke island never returns. Geralt then says something like: well, i have already been there but I understand why a peasant would'nt survive.
This games side quests are crazy tbh. The way they can be started in various ways, the way the outcomes/choices you make can be seen in the aftermath, aswell as the little clues & additional info that can be found out in the open world in the form of notes or environmental story telling to further flesh them out , is truly amazing and done better than in any other open world game. Masterpiece.
By far the saddest way to collect likes ever. Not only that you don't have a babe, but 476 who liked it also don't have one. Because those who do have one, know that it's very uncommon for couples to like the same videos especially if one of them likes TW3 ffs.
You are freaking amazing at finding these things out and you're right, everything is so meticulously put together in this game that the solider and the general having the same name can't be coincidental.
It's so cool to see how the devs put in the effort to show a lot of quest outcomes progressing after the quest is over. I never really went back to look at these things in my playthrough so this video was super cool to see.
At blood and wine dlc there is a mention of a man who forges paintings, also at the portrait quest the painter says he has a cat that draws but only imitations of other people works , do you see any connection? A Doppler maybe?
You know, I'm from a family that has had several people in the military, and have been around people of various ranks through out my life. It kind of fits with my experience that how Rhosyn may be higher ranked than he portrays himself. See, in my experience talking to people about their commanding officers (maybe this isn't universal, though, and there are people that don't do this), even if they're the only person from their unit, they refer to the officers over them as "Our lieutenant," not "My lieutenant." Usually the phrase, "My lieutenant" is used by a superior officer, speaking of a lieutenant assigned to them. Again, this is just in my personal experience, but it's a curious trait I've noticed that has been in common with all the military personnel that I've known.
Small, but important detail yes. Since he indeed sais 'MY lieutenant'! I also think this could indeed be the very same General who is now hiding amongst the peasants in Temeria: Feigning his death in battle would be his best chance in escaping Nilfgaardian punishment for his failure? As the 'Cretin Lieutenant' roughly indicated: Those pompous oafs in the Nilfgaardian Officer-positions considered themselves quite the superiors. The mere nérve to think people can shit on command... And they wonder why they're ending in stalemate after stalemate, whilst Nilfgaard has superior numbers, fár better equipped soldiers, very well supplied armies...vs Peasants, Patriots and Guerilla's? It's a good 'explanation' perhaps that such a superior army would lose vs 'ordinairy peasant-forces', due to their arrogance, and blindness. Probably thinking them simply marching into enemy lands would entitle them to greatness itself or some. Certain officers being só full of themselves, they are totally ignorant to plain simple facts, right in front of them? Its a 'good' recipe for failure! Temerians fighting with their patriottic spirit, vs semi-demoralized Nilfgaardian soldiers who dont have a clue what their officers actually expect from them, and over half the orders are just rubbish? Another example is the 'Bywater-sidequest', where a Nilfgaardian Patrol thinks they are só incredibly awesome, they can take on a dangerous monster(Ekkimara to be precise?),...and ofcourse get totalled by the powerful and ancient being... Imagine being a more realistic general, and you need to deal with such idicracy from spoilt rich nilfgaardian noblemen's sons who BOUGHT their way into a lucrative army-position(so daddy's dearest doesnt risk getting killed in a battle, like the regular folks?) I think after a number of stupid losses, that were caused by such idiocracy(like that Cretin-Lieutentant..again.. what an idiot!) to demand people first shit their bowels empty, before stepping on a battlefield.... Timing is important! Imagine half a squadron getting chopped up by the Temerians or Redanians already, where the other half of the squad is 'under orders' to first shit, before helping their brothers in arms? You're the general, you order a full-on assault and your 'cretin-officers', sabotage your direct orders, causing you to 'lose' the battle, or atleast an undecided stalemate with heavy casualties..... ...yet YOU Are the General that's to awnser for it??? ....Take that a step further; Brought before Emhyr var Emreis to awnser for your militairy failure, and your best defence is blaming those pompous 'rich-boy' officers who sabotaged your orders....Good luck convincing the Emperor, as those rich daddies are probably all advising the Emperor, or have other important titles within the Empire: He'd just be 'sacrificed to serve as an example', and the next General would be placed in command of a bunch of spoilt rich-kid officers? Same problems, same results...
That's an interesting point. Subtle but revealing slip of the tongue on the part of that character? The attention to detail and quality of writing in this game never ceases to amaze me.
I know I'm a couple months late, but I've seen this video only now. I'd like to point out that your theory unfortunately collapses when you consider the words that were spoken after "my lieutenant", which are "...demanded of us". Now...if Rhosyn is truly a General (higher ranked than a lieutentant, far higher ranked, as you might know), then why would a meager lieutenant DEMAND of "them" to do something? "Them" or "us" in this case implying that there would be several other Generals present of whom this lieutenant would demand something. That's some mental gymnastics right there. As a member of the armed services in Germany myself (lower enlisted ranks), I can definitely vouch for the fact that we do use plural possessive pronouns like "our" when we refer to our superiors, and that vice-versa higher ranks would use singular pronouns like "my" to refer to subordinates, but while this is the common grammatical form, this doesn't mean we do it all the time. And - consider that Rhoysn is Nilfgaardian, meaning he doesn't speak Common Tongue as his mother tongue. And as a lower enlisted rank, I can absolutely tell you that their conversation is in fact prime grunt-level banter, especially the way the Rhoysn conveys it. Felt right at home with those lads, gotta say. That guy DEFINITELY does not carry himself like a General, and ESPECIALLY not like a Nilfgaardian General. And the last nail in the coffin for that theory is that a General does not fight on the front lines, not like that. A lieutenant - maybe. Colonel - big maybe. But a General? Hell no. You can bet all your crowns that whoever posted that notice on the big tree did so in the General's name as well. That was definitely not the man himself posted that notice.
I like the idea that Rhosyn might have been a general in the army and that after having seen the carnage, brutality and cruelty of the war might have snapped one day, met Bastien and had enough. It could have been possible, yes.
Nah, I think he's just telling stories from when he was a grunt. No need to make up stuff, he did go through the same things he's pretending to go through now, those are the best lies, when it's actually true
@@Attilablabla Agreed on that. Unless they're someone with noble connections, they'll likely have to fight their way up the hierarchy. And ever since Emperor Emhyr's reforms a lot of Nilfgaard positions seem like they're based mostly on meritocracy rather than nepotism, especially with how much he seems disliked by Nilfgaardian nobility.
@@Lazarultos that was exactly my thinking. He hates the nobility and seems to appoint people to military positions as needed. With the war it's one of the easiest institutions to reform.
damn... I'm always absolutely blown away by the amount of depth both the game and your analyses of the content have... please keep going, every single video so far has been amazing!
Hey, love the video. The Nilfgaardian reminds me of the books, where the Field Marshall Coehoorn tries to flee the battle by switching armor with one of his lower ranking aides and hoping to slip by (to no avail). So this could very well be the actual general who, seeing that the battle is lost, ditched his officer armor (rather un Nilfgaardian-likely) and tried to pass as a common footman (playing that "you and I, we are not so different, we are both victims in kings' wars" card). En plus, he speaks the language of Nordlings, which is rather rare among the rank-and-file troops but understandable for a commander in an occupied territory... Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it's a fun theory
Watching your videos finally made me take the plunge and play through Witcher 3 again, trying to hit as many details as I can along the way. I haven't done a full playthrough in many years at this point, I'm actually excited about the prospects.
First time to hear about this story. How could we expect to keep finding integrated plots after years, which almost makes me feel there is still a group of developers working on this game, secretly adding scenes and contents into this game. Get amazed by this intertwining secret especially.

I love how grey some of the decisions are. Or even how some appear to be super cut and dry what the "good" and "bad" choice is only for there to be a twist later on. I think this early one has a glimpse into that. You have no reason to vouch for the Nilfgardian and you're told of the risk. If this quest was later on in the game the Nilf would have murdered the entire family or something 😂😂

The twist that Rosen is actually the general that attacked White Orchard and not some private that was conscripted from the family farm would be the sort of thing that would fit with the rest of the game, though. The books too.
Another great video! I'm replaying W3 right now actually after a fee years break. I have like 800 hours total in this game and I still discover new things/details.
Rhosyn could very well be a prime example of High Commanding Officers having to keep the appearances up lest their throats won't be spared the same blade grunts have to face. If you ask me, if he was looking for an out, faking his death or managing to sneak into the ranks of the grunts was a pretty clever out even if it's never confirmed.
Maybe that Rhosyn guy got promoted during that campaign so he neither got the gold to pay for a nicer armor nor the time to order one by that time. the question remaining would be why he deserts especially after he just has got a promotion but maybe he was just sick and tired of that war. Edit: nice video btw. you just got yourself a new subscriber.

Once again this proves the witcher series is not just all good endings, it fully featured humanity and how corrupt the worlds, none of the things will be perfect like other novels. So much joy to watch your video. Since your first video through out all of them, I love it, thank you neon knight
The story Rhosyn recalls could just be a story from when he was a grunt (so it doesn't really support the whole 'lying' bit), but the armor is (to me) much more compelling evidence that it's mere coincidence the two share a name.
Great video, the level of depth in The Witcher 3 is absolutely on another level, im plowing through it on death march at the moment, my 5th play through, & for reasons like this is why you can keep doing so, love The Witcher, respect putting in the time to make an awesome video showcasing its exquisite depth, nice one bro🤘🏼peace

If it was meant to be the same Rhosyn trying to hide his identity, he would come up with an alias of some sort, rather than reveal his name to Bastian.
Dude i randomly found one of your video and I'm Loving each and every of your video so hat's off to you. And would love to see some Combat tutorial (build) from you. Much love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
I would imagine that the Nilfardians did hang those people after the battle and thus the note must have been placed later. If the village was fighting for Temeria, it cannot have been under Nilfgardian control before Bastien and Rhosyn went missing.
What makes it worse about him sleeping in the closet is medieval period multiple people would share the same room, you would have servants who would sleep in the same room as their masters, also children and even animals. The main reason is when you are sleeping you are extremely vulnerable not just to living threats but also for supernatural threats including bad dreams and that was actually the norm up until a few hundred years ago
There is a battle in the Witcher books, in which Nilfgaard looses. The marshal in charge tries to flee and one of his subordinates gives him his uniform. This turns detrimental to the marshal as the uniform belongs to a unit hated by some of the opponents, which shoot him, taking him for a member of that unit. I wonder if this might be a reference to that episode?
There is no other game like Witcher 3. Looking at how the gaming trends evolve there probably won't be another game like this one. So much love was put into details in developing even the smallest quests. It's a treasure! I hope that CDPR will stay truthful to its values against the odds.
This is one of many examples of how dedicated & careful CDPR staff was when developing TW3’s hundreds of quests, many of which can be initiated in several different ways, at several different plot points of the main story missions.
you can also argue Rhosyn might be a son of the general from the notice, as naming here seems to be non-standart pattern for Nilfgardians, name and surname only. Seems to be a theme with niflgaard deserters
I think, Rhosyn might be the Nilfgaardian running into Yennefer in the opening cinematic of the game, the Clothes he wears look similar. And he also looks like the Nilfgaardian from the ''Killing Monsters'' Trailer. Might be coincidence, but in my experience, there are not a lot of coincidences in the Witcher.
My two cents: I've noticed something similar happening later in Velen. You can read it up on the wiki, but here goes. As it so happens, there's this quest just outside Crow's Perch, and it's the first quest about dueling a man called Ronvid of the Small Marsh. He claims that he fights for the honor of the maid Bilberry, and he vowed to defeat 100 knights in order to do that. Now, I'm not sure if Geralt even classifies as a knight, but no matter. Inside Crow's Perch, there is a post on the notice board about a Bilberry. And this posting claims that she'd died - and that she was four years old. So either we got a really strange kind of necrophile/pedophile roaming the swampy roads of Velen looking to fight dudes, or those two Bilberries have nothing to do with each other. This would be almost as weird, because the two references to this name pop up in very close vicinity to each other - and same as Rhosyn, the name Bilberry doesn't pop up anywhere else either.
This whole storyline is a reference to a book by polish author Henryk Sienkiewicz, titled "Krzyżacy", where a young knight (teenager from what I remember) meets a 12 year old lady-in-waiting of the queen and he promises her something similiar to defeating 100 knights. The story goes on but she eventually dies, but the knight still fulfills his promise after her death. So I assume this is the same Bilberry, but possibly her and Ronvid were betrothed to each other as children; that's when he made the promise, and while Bilberry died, he still felt obliged to fulfill his promise. Or he still could be this weird creep you described, but by analyzing the similarities between the game and the book I mentioned, it's certain that both the Bilberry Ronvid's talking about and the one mentioned on the board is the same person.
@tuulenkoti That is becouse Ronvid is actually a reference to both - his pledge to a lady who dies is taken from the book, while the part about him arguing with other man about her being the most beautiful woman is taken from Don Quixote. I promise that the story in the book I mentioned isn't that similiar to DQ, but it could be inspired.

Like the massive map after White Orchard with a lot of (grass)filler and more generic locations, followed by Skellige with even more (water)filler. With The Witcher 3 this is less apparent but still existent.
@@Koozwad, Skellige was the first map they finished.
@@4rl0ng ...and yet regarding quests and landmass it is one of the smallest/most insignificant.
@@RainWelsh that had to be so creepy just wandering on to fyke isle without any prior knowledge as to whats going on there
@@RainWelsh there's even a small piece of dialogue from geralt in his conversation with keira if you go to fyke island first. Keira says that the villagers say that anyone who goes to fyke island never returns. Geralt then says something like: well, i have already been there but I understand why a peasant would'nt survive.
Your "empath" comment at the end had me dying 🤣
Keep up the great work man! Your content is truly unique and amazing!
The level of detail is unbelievable. I feel like I’ve barely found anything and I’ve got 600+ hours in game
Babe wake up! New Neon Knight video just dropped!
yes honey...
By far the saddest way to collect likes ever. Not only that you don't have a babe, but 476 who liked it also don't have one.
Because those who do have one, know that it's very uncommon for couples to like the same videos especially if one of them likes TW3 ffs.
@@malta071 What a sad way to misunderstand a joke...
@@lordsucuk9316 just jealous, I reckon.
Stop.. this one of the cringest memes of them all 🤦🏾♂️
You are freaking amazing at finding these things out and you're right, everything is so meticulously put together in this game that the solider and the general having the same name can't be coincidental.
A copy-cat
Επ πουσαι ρε
It's a pun. Copy cat means people who copies other people. Usually said a bit fondly towards children who mimics your attitude and work.
Imagine being a more realistic general, and you need to deal with such idicracy from spoilt rich nilfgaardian noblemen's sons who BOUGHT their way into a lucrative army-position(so daddy's dearest doesnt risk getting killed in a battle, like the regular folks?)
I think after a number of stupid losses, that were caused by such idiocracy(like that Cretin-Lieutentant..again.. what an idiot!) to demand people first shit their bowels empty, before stepping on a battlefield....
100% correct on the our/my usage. it definitely indicates the direction of responsibility.
I like the idea that Rhosyn might have been a general in the army and that after having seen the carnage, brutality and cruelty of the war might have snapped one day, met Bastien and had enough. It could have been possible, yes.
i definitely believe its possible. although i do wonder about the armor
@@kyle21843 deserted, put on a dead soldier's armour I'd wager
@@kyle21843 plenty of dead bodies on that field, he can just loot it out of one
Tough time changing pants an posts with a broken leg.
That attention to detail in every quest is just absolutely amazing and makes it a blast to play through again and again.
What if Rhosyn was actually the commander who gave the orders for soldiers to shit before fighting?
Damn, nice discovery of the notice on the tree, I never thought that the soldier could be of high rank. I'm pretty sure it's not a coincidence, as it was placed that near Dune. Great work!
Aren't video games haram?
I recently started playing The Witcher 3, and I'm so glad to have stumbled upon your channel. Your videos are helping me fully appreciate the depth and complexity of it, so thank you!
New Witcher 3 content always makes me perk up.
Love seeing Gaunter O'Dimm randomly throughout the game. He IS the devil 1:26
Oh boy, just found you and i have to say thank you! I love this game very dearly. Just binge watched all your videos and can't wait for more! Keep it up, thank you for your passion and work!
F-ing Gaunter O'Dimm hiding in the background, so cool. Loving these videos (so much I'm commenting 2 years later). Can't wait to play through Witcher 2 and 3 again.
Absolutely love your content and the professionalism in your videos. From your very first upload I got the impression you’d been doing this for years. Gotta thank the TH-cam algorithm for throwing up such a gem of a channel 🙌🏼
"temerian hospitality is at an all time low", couldn't be more true, I can't imagine what's gotten them so riled up... Maybe it's the war and occupation, but that's highly unlikely...
Still doing my first play through (I’m lvl 31 rn). Had my og copy for ps4 and the ps4 broke so I never finished it. Gladly have a Pc and saw this amazing game on sale for like $14 including both expansions and had to have it

It's the little things we pick up on...
(Side note: been a sub since you were under 1000 followers and it's great to see your channel getting the recognition it deserves!)
This game comes so close to being the most detailed oriented game I’ve ever played. It’s barely beaten out by rdr2.
To me it's way more entertaining than RDR2 :/
Can't believe you can still find new and cool stuff like this in this old game Neon. Well done!
This blew my mind, It's so surreal how much detial can a 10 minute side-quest hold
3:40 Oh snap! I stumbled on the cabin and did the quest in the reverse order.
Thanks for the cool vid, you and X-Letalis have the best Witcher content.

I love these so much.. I’m a stickler for keeping it in character, but I love how u find these things in a game where I have hours played that shouldn’t be publicly said 😊 keep up the great work my man!
Wow, this is NUTS. I find it hilarious how much detail is put into this game and yet I just sort of played through it. I LOVED it and am still working through Blood and Wine, but I honesty just didn’t make these kind of connections. I was never taught to do that when playing games
Had no idea you could do this quest in multiple orders. What a game
Fascinating! I had no idea. I appreciate you pointing out these details, most of which I missed when I completed the quest. The Witcher 3 is incredible!
How amazing is it that there are hidden things at the very beggining of this game? and that there are amazing people like Neon Knight that find them!

Good movie man. I thought I knew everything of this mission but hey, here you come!
Must say I like the depth of your movies, they are completely different from all the other "you have missed these parts in the Witcher" movies. You actually come up with something new, things I actually did miss. Keep it coming!
The twist that Rosen is actually the general that attacked White Orchard and not some private that was conscripted from the family farm would be the sort of thing that would fit with the rest of the game, though. The books too.

Love to see you're still at it making these vids. Premium content here as always! Can't wait to see what else ya cook up man.
Once again this proves the witcher series is not just all good endings, it fully featured humanity and how corrupt the worlds, none of the things will be perfect like other novels.
So much joy to watch your video. Since your first video through out all of them, I love it, thank you neon knight
Your channel is great man, I haven't missed a video since the first one
The story Rhosyn recalls could just be a story from when he was a grunt (so it doesn't really support the whole 'lying' bit), but the armor is (to me) much more compelling evidence that it's mere coincidence the two share a name.
Great video, the level of depth in The Witcher 3 is absolutely on another level, im plowing through it on death march at the moment, my 5th play through, & for reasons like this is why you can keep doing so, love The Witcher, respect putting in the time to make an awesome video showcasing its exquisite depth, nice one bro🤘🏼peace

I fully thought this was going to be some crappy click bait but I was pleasantly surprised. I missed this quest in my first play through and did not expect so much depth. Thanks for the awesome video!
If it was meant to be the same Rhosyn trying to hide his identity, he would come up with an alias of some sort, rather than reveal his name to Bastian.
The richness of this game is never unappreciated. If only all games were this deep and expertly crafted

I would imagine that the Nilfardians did hang those people after the battle and thus the note must have been placed later.
If the village was fighting for Temeria, it cannot have been under Nilfgardian control before Bastien and Rhosyn went missing.
Pretty sure in 1.0 this interaction when riding by the guy with the dog was in the game because i fully recall it
Your videos are alway brilliant, and this is no exception
This game is so nostalgic to me and your video made me really happy , can't believe this game is so layered amd detailed
Man you make great Witcher 3 videos.
My first play through I totally missed this, currently replaying and made sure to help them!
Wow you're the new XLetalis lmao. This was awesome. Thanks!
Playing this game.for the second time right now! And this quest always sit uneasy with me, thanks man!
Just started playing month ago. And getting fresh content ♥️
Keep up the work man !
I always finish watching these videos shaking my head with admiration, going “wow, I can’t believe the devs thought of this”
This is one of many examples of how dedicated & careful CDPR staff was when developing TW3’s hundreds of quests, many of which can be initiated in several different ways, at several different plot points of the main story missions.
From the jump this channel produces only bangers 🔥🔥🔥
Man. Just did this quest in the last week and this hits hard. Didn’t realize a lot.
you can also argue Rhosyn might be a son of the general from the notice, as naming here seems to be non-standart pattern for Nilfgardians, name and surname only.
