I think about the post Cameron made on Karan's birthday about his future kids calling him Uncle Kar and thinking, won't ever have that. 😭 Karan, you are amazing! Again a great podcast!! My husband suffered mental illness and depression since childhood, then turned to drugs and alcohol as a preteen. He became clean after almost dying twice...once at 19 urs old and 2nd time at 25. He went into rehab and stayed clean til he was about 38 or so and downhill spiral until he committed suicide at 49 years old. I found him. I have never and will never be the same again. 16 mos later I was diagnosed with cancer. 7 years out and remarried 5 years. Many meds now for me to cope and live with PTSD, Anxiety, depression etc.....but I'm very loved. Thank goodness!!!! Love love love this podcast as a woman....there should be one call Woman Enough.....we have SO many roles to live up to that are engraved in us from a young age.

      Wow, what a journey. Thank you for sharing it with us and so much love to you. We really consider this podcast and the larger movement "human enough", which is absolutely inclusive of women and female-identifying people. We call it "Man Enough" to call in the men who need to learn and do this work this most, starting with the elimination of the idea that they are NOT "man enough" or that they need to "man up" to be real men. So you're more than welcome here and this is all for you as well.

    He is absolutely right. There is not enough conversation about epilepsy or enough research. I was diagnosed with epilepsy last year. My story is different. Doctors took 8 months to get me an MRI another 2 months to get an EEG. Within that time I had countless seizures (it’s amazing I’m still alive). I developed a stutter (I’m an actor, so that was hard). And doctors would not listen to me. Finally I got the test and medicine was thrown at me. It’s scary because I would only have them in my sleep at first (it progressed later). But I would go days without sleeping because I was afraid of having a seizure. And even of it ending my life. Mainly because doctors never found a source. They don’t know why I have seizures or why they suddenly started. It just is.It took a huge toll on my mental health.
    Thankfully I’ve been seizure free for about 4 months now. But my doctor never really gave me resources or anything. I knew about epilepsy because I had a friend with it. Never knowing I would go through the same thing and how scary it would be. It was my therapist that found resources for me.
    But it pushed me to take better care of myself to be on top of things, especially my mental health and physical well-being.
    I say all this to say, awareness is so important. Support is so important.

    Wow, what a great conversation with such an awesome guy. If Karan is representative of the next generation then I can breathe out. What a wise soul he is. There were so many nuggets there. I totally believe that our "children" are here to teach us. I could relate to so much he was saying about grief, having lost my best friend of 26 years, 6 years ago. Grief takes you over and you have to go on the journey whether you like it or not (Unless of course you suppress it and get sick) The biggest takeaway from him which ties in with a quote I read this week which I love is - "Fall in love with taking care of yourself".
    As for what Justin talked about (I noted the time stamp to go back and watch again) about what happens when we die, I just loved it. It was so profound and very moving.
    Something that comforted me in my grief was believing that my friend was called to her next assignment, so she wasnt just wafting out there aimlessly and in limbo from this life, her Soul is off to learn more lessons, and she is needed.

    I'm a 19 year old indian guy, I loved the way he talked about his parents being supportive of his career choices, my parents are supportive too thankfully, this culture of parents imposing certain career choices on their children needs to stop, this and the whole not even recognising mental health is a thing.
    Also we need more people like karan who are willing be vulnerable which makes it easy for other men to be the same way.

    I am a huge fan of Man Enough and I love most episodes. I’ll admit that this one didn’t hit for me. Tough to go from Joy DeGruy (and even her nephew!) who has a lifetime of research under her belt, is a published author, and was dropping tough, uncomfortable truths that challenge the fiber of my being to Karan Brar, a 22-year-old actor. His experience is unique and I don’t want to minimize it (and I’m challenging my own negative reaction to this episode too- I’m not closed off to learning from Karan). At the same time, he came off as very measured and controlled and well-prepared to discuss the subject matter, which left me missing a feeling of deep, uncontrolled authenticity and vulnerability (compare to Anthony Padilla, who totally transformed over the course of the episode). I’m a survivor of trauma so maybe my brain is just hard-wired to chase those more extreme feelings but this episode felt too clean to me. It didn’t feel like we got to the heart of his internal struggles and it didn’t feel like he was struggling to deliver any of the information he communicated. The accountability here didn’t feel as profound as we’ve seen in the past (even with Jamie sharing his past and his truths with us). I was looking for shame and a unique revelation of humanity and couldn’t find it. Sure we can’t have Joy DeGruy every episode, but this one really felt off to me. I hope that if Karan comes back, the panel can get him to reach a little deeper and reveal more raw, unprepared, unscripted character. Also, Jamie please stop assuming people are going to have children! “When you have children of your own…” is used a lot more frequently than “IF you have children of your own.” Anyway, long time listener, first time caller, and contrary to the impression this comment may provide: I really am a huge fan of the show and can’t thank you all enough for the hard work you do (especially Liz Plank!). Proud to support such an outstanding work of media. I share this podcast with friends frequently and I love watching the show’s success!

      Emily, thank you so much for your candid feedback. Please don't ever feel like it's not welcome -- we're all growing and learning together and all views and experiences are invited. We don't expect everyone to agree. We think the beauty of a series like this is that different episodes reach different people. We don't expect everyone to like or be touched by every episode; that would be unrealistic. Thank you for your support, for sharing with others, and for challenging us as you see fit.

    “Get Outta Their Way” Thank you for finally being straight about the feminists ideology being pandered on this show.

    • @WeAreManEnough
      @WeAreManEnough  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dan, we have no interest in neutering men or male characteristics. Our aim is to help men and all people get better by freeing them to decide for themselves what makes them who they are. We are absolutely feminists, in the sense that we believe women deserve equal rights. We do not, however, align with the extremist version of feminism that a small group of people have brought forward, which is indeed anti-men and male characteristics. Thank you for watching and for giving your feedback. We hope you hear more than a one-sided anti-man message here and continue to check out what we're doing.
