Probably more important is the new price purchase of today. The depreciation is big news, less big news is that new car prices are much lower now so if you sold and replaced with new, your loss wouldn't be nearly so bad.
Wow! Those niro ev-s 4 trim are gonna be amazing value in 2-3 years when you could get one for 16-17k! Especially if you can find one with the optional heat pump... Can't believe that isn't standard on the niro ev, it's like they went backwards in a way... Keep up the good work, I'm a huge fan of what you do! 😁
WBAC values my eniro 4+ 2020 for £15k & it cost £29k in march 2023. It’s a big loss but an amazing car. Jonathan, would you expect an ICE car to depreciate 50% too?
Hi Alan WBAC is part of BCA ( British Car Auctions) so they will give a LOW valuation so they can sell at a bca auction for more and make a nice profit , with no comebacks to them ! 😉
German cars annoy me as they have so many options and packs. It’s hard enough to understand when buying new. When buying 2nd hand it’s difficult to say the least.
Hi Jonathan, do you recommend buying now or in January? Im looking to get a Tesla M3 LR 2021. I was tinking the price is set to drop since on 2025 the car would be 4 years old. Any advice?
Yes , wait till jan , traditionally cars are less at auction in the new year , after xmas and new years , dealers dont want to stock up till folks have money in their pockets again !
Hi Jonathan, you've been mentioning Shoreham a lot recently, im looking at their website for the next sale in 3 days, and a LOT of the EV say Unlotted (instead of Lot No). Does unlotted mean its been withdrawn, or just not yet given a lot number?
Unless they leased it rather than bought it.. Cars like this are almost always leased when new....which makes them an even better used proposition, especially at 2 to 3 years old.
@@Brian-om2hhI don’t think these are a good deal at all. Not before and not after they lose half their value in less than a year and regardless of whether the depreciation was ‘paid’ for by the dealer, finance company or the first owner, is irrelevant as there is still an awful lot to lose. If a dealer buys this and puts it on sale, it’s likely to be bought (if bought at all) by a private buyer. If they finance the purchase by lease, that lease will have a more realistic end-of-lease valuation figure (unlike the early deals years ago) and the owner will not escape losing another £20-30k in the next year or two. But from Autotrader and other sites, it seems that there is not much demand for used EVs as people don’t put their own money (even if borrowed) in these. Without the government’s tax incentives paid by us, these premium EVs would be finished. But even when brand new and bought through a company to write off the tax or as a company car, any tax incentive will be out out weighted by the depreciation. It’s almost guaranteed that whoever first bought this Taycan will not get another one of these.
As another comment " Cars at Auctions Do Not Achieve These Silly STARTING BIDS " . This is Manipulation By AUCTIONEER as i have said before . The number alegidly SOLD....Realy. Not in my many years of Auction Experience. Any" Prospective Buyers " should be very wary of watching this.
@JonathanPorterfield The "MARKET" For £ 20,00 + year old + EVs is virtually inexistant. The only people who think " IT IS" are the ones who have them on a stock sheet and wish they were not there " LOOKING AT BIG LOSSES WITH NO CUSTOMERS". Look how many Pre / Reg are crawling out of the woodwork from last year at nearly half price. The ILUSION CONTINUES.
@@GrahamNewman-mq7gr I am lookign at a £20k second hand ev. I have test drove a Tesla, MG4 trophy, Kia & Kona 3 year old as down 50% on purchase price. Waiting as some newer models of these coming out and till Jan as another year older & I am hoping they go down a bit more. Not as many car dealers though buying used Ev's I agree with that point.
Could have watched that auction all day!
More auctions coming on this channel 🙌 thanks for watching and your comments 😀
This is quite a contrast to some of the EV doubters claims, who say used electric cars are worthless......
I live in the Edinburgh catchment area and, so far, the majority of 74 plate cars I have seen have been BEVs, which is unusual.
Brilliant video

They went backwards in terms of efficiency as well, they're a good 10% down on the earlier model. Hyundai did the same with the Kona.
@garysmith5025 must be the additional weight or something, and the fact that that standard heat pump is missing sure isn't helping...

Whats the thoughts on the jaguar i pace? Are they reliable? The range seems unrealistic.
@chrislee7817 iffy track record of reliability, and Jaguar dealer support is poor at best !
Nice to see some actual facts unlike the clickbait dinosaur king Barrie 😂

It has not yet been given a lot number
The Taycan 4S starts just under £100k, someone lost around £50k in less than a year on the first car.
The lease companies, and manufacturers, as i feel the true cost of new is artificially high !

£ 100,000 FOR THE "TINCAN" AND THE BAND PLAYED BELIVE IT IF YOU LIKE . NEARER £80,000 IF YOU WANT ONE.
The Mercedes EQC is a really nice looking car , the EQB is hideous and looks like a pig crossed with a London cab .

EVs are basically batteries on wheels below £15k.
Yet again a " SHOW PUT ON BY AUCTION IN CONJUNCTION WITH CAP ". Shurly you could see through this. A classic ruse put on for show. QED.
So nothing sold then ?? 😕
