Like the idea.
I used to tether my old Hero 3+ black to the top of my snowboard helmet the same way as the other method you showed.
Since i got the Hero 5 i have never used a tether and its always a concern that it could break.Have you ever had a failure of the frame ?

I have not and I have not heard of anyone who has. One thing I did not point out in the video was I think the frame has some glass fiber reinforcing in it while it seem the extinction bars and lot of the mounts do not. This would mean the plastic of the frame is stronger than the mount.

If you can modify I suggest doing the tether around the hinge. Saved my camera!
