I do use the vallejo stuff and like you say, it ain't cheap so I will definitely give this a go, great tip. You've also given me an idea for what to add in for texture - I bought myself a mini table saw from eBay the other day (absolutely fantastic little tool, probably very scary!!) and it came with a pretty chunky saw blade which produced a lot of chunky chips when I ran some plasticard sheet through it, however, I reckon feeding all my spare sprue through the saw I'd be able to add those plastic chips to a texture mix like this.
Nice job! I always love to see these kinds of vids, more videos with more sciency trials and results for various ratios/materials etc would be cool too!
I used tile grout instead of wall filler, and also tried with plaster of Paris, the results are more or less the same, but the tile grout gives an almost ultra mate finish.
You could probably mix some onto a plastic lid, let it dry and then crumble it up to stick onto the bases. And then maybe fill in the gaps with tinted clear water or resin to look like lava :)
Try Rock salt instead of table salt. Get a pestel and mortar to get the grain right! Hope this helps! 😊
I dry and save coffee grounds for making textured bases. I had just been mixing PVA glue with the grounds and then painting them after they dry.
Love texture tutorials, always something you haven’t thought of yet
modge podge and with an ol old wide brush gets an over empghasised line layer making cardboard layerd and staggergerd an obsidian base look
this is exactly the video I was looking for, thanks
Again a great video on making you own stuff !

Sounds like a good idea! You can even grind up bits in an electric blender and add them to the mix 👍

Very well done, love the end results ❤
This is really handy, the effect looks amazing. Can’t wait to try this for my turnip28 army
Great idea thanks! I'm looking for a cheap option to make a lot of terrain and i'll try this out

Good tip 👍
Thank you for sharing this! I like these ideas =o)
That intro's amazing
Just what I was looking for. Thank you!
Great vid. Love do it yourself stuff vids. Have noticed that wall filler doesn't stick as well. Maybe add PVA if that is de case?
The wall filler doesn’t stick to the plastic at all, but if you scraped it onto a primed base, it shouldn’t come off 🙂
Will give these a try. Have you tried Midwinter Minis coffeehammer recipe? Used that for a previous project and worked well.
I haven’t, but I have seen his video! I should give it a try 😊
I do believe the vallejo mix has pumice in it.
It would be good to try out!
No I am not going out and purchasing Pringles for their lids. lol
thank you for sharing, I liked the second mix.
Ooh that first texture in particular I'd great. What sand from B&Q is it?
Thanks so much for this!
Will it stick on ok if I'm applying it directly to bases?
Yes, I’ve not had trouble with pasting it onto unprimed bases 🙂
@@MTGBella Awesome
Your mix looks better than the vallajo.does this keep in a jar or do you mix it as needed
If you store in an air tight container, it will last a few weeks, for sure. Maybe longer, but it might dry up a little 🙂
2 quid on the mix and 8 quid on Pringles!!!!
Exelente idea!
Would grout work?
Yes! I’m sure that’d work well 😊
Can this work to make lava bases?

How long to dry?
Best to leave overnight

I think it was this one. They sell it at Homebase as well: www.diy.com/departments/tarmac-sharp-sand-large-bag/5030349012445_BQ.prd
