Thank you for amazing video tutorial:) In old version of this powder is talc and in talc is asbestos...so, that`s it. Even for hands is dangerous. Just fun fact from Czechia:)
Yes! Talc is a mineral that is contaminated with asbestos. It should never be used. In the US J & J was sued for causing ovarian and testicular cancer. They engage in a lot of coverups and test all their products repeatedly on animals despite animal testing being poor science. Animal tests give them plausible deniability. I don’t buy any of their products because of a long history of deceptive practices. Ex. Baby powder is not tested once on animals, instead these tests are conducted repeatedly on animals with same results to protect the company from negligence. A common practice sadly.

Thanks for this video and your tips. I’ve made my own texture paste, too, but without the glue-just straight acrylic paint and baby powder. I’ve got one small collage piece I did two years ago using it and the stencil work is still intact. One thing: adding baby powder to acrylic paint reduces the natural gleam of the paint , so when it dries it looks more matte than straight acrylic paint, maybe a bit more like chalk paint. I’m wondering if your formula, with the pva glue, helps to keep a bit of the shine.
my pleasure Ocher, that's interesting to know it works without the glue, and no it's not got a shine it's still quiet matt when dried. ♡☆🦋 crafty hugs Donna
helo Francene, it might be KaiserCraft? it was my mums and all the big 12 x12" blue stencils that I have that were hers still in the packet have KaiserCraft on them. hope you can find it I use it a lot. ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
You may be able to use a piece of the scrap drawer liners or the same thing they use for under carpet to keep it in place. I like to keep small pieces of different fabric/ wrappers eg: bags that are a netted type, that your onions or potatoes come in.
it is close and for home crafters its close enough, just know that if you only use it occasionally to only make this small batch bc it will mould if not used in 3 to 4 weeks depends on the conditions, i've had it last longer as well. have a crafty day ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
@@christinejones6752 unfortunately I haven't tried this Christine, I know the way it is now it dries firm, maybe you should look for a recipe more suited to moulds because it uses silicone which makes thw mix pliable, good luck with your search 😀 🦋🌸 hugs Donna
I would give it a go, make a batch using this recipe into a thick concistency and ad small bit at a time to see how it mixes. let me know how it goes? 🥰🐝🌹🦋 crafty hugs Donna
Hi Rowena, theres a few ways you can use it, on the edge of your pages, on tags and yes you can glue something over the top of it if that's what you mean about the sentiment 🥰🐝🌹🦋 crafty hugs Donna
Hi. Can the PVA glue be replaced with Glossy Acrylic Medium? (Usually used for collaging or as glue.) I bought 2 big containers full at a sale not realising that it is glossy (I don't like glossy medium for college). And can I add Distress Oxide re-inker to add colour instead of the paint? I guess the glue would have to be more then? Maybe that's an experiment you would like to do and give us the results... Please? TFS this recipe ❤
hey Swannwillow, I don't know about the recipe change you have asked me about? I have not tried GAmedium bc the cheep glue works so well. I think I'll stick to the recipe as I always have bc it has served me well, by all means experiment with what you have and let me know how it goes if you do decide to alter it, tbh I have no clue as to how you would take the place of the acrylic paint portion if you eliminate it? ☆🦋 crafty hugs Donna
@@JunkJournalideas Thanks Donna. I will think about it. I'm not much of a chemist, but if I do try the experiment I will let you know what happens. Hugs Swan 🌼
@@swannwillow9476 ok the outcome would be interesting, I would be tempted to buy a $2 tube of white acrylic paint and use the GAmedium instead of white glue & add your colour to the mix 😃
I use hot soapy water. I figure any glue is going to be dissolved and will go down the drain without any issues. I do this with all of my acrylic brushes as well and the stencils.
thanks Susane, I use baby powder because it is very fine and easy to get a hold of, you can also use corn starch if you don't mind using a food grade powder, its fine as well and it's an ingredient used in the baby powder now rather than talc that used to be used many years ago. I havent used the cornstarch i've only used baby powder and it works a treat 😍🥰🦋 hugs Donna
the variation colour i have used is a cream using a bit of yellow to the white, it's only ever been subtle to take the stark white away, and then no need to add colour over top. if you want to use blue paint instead of white you can, but your colour will be dictated by the amount of paint you use as the recipe (same amount as if it was white) if you have some pigment paints you could add that if you want more colour bc pigment shouldn't alter the recipe too much. hope this helps Sudarshan hugs Donna
hey Audrey, the paint is to add smoothness so it's not too dry, water can evaporate and crack. the paint will help it flow nicely happy crafting ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
Hi from Ireland. Thanks for recipe. Do you have any recipes for antiquing paste. Pentart make it but can't seem to get here. Also, any idea how to make crackle glaze or crackle varnish. Expensive items as well. All art materials cost a lot really. Any ideas would be appreciated. ❤
I've jusd across your vudeo, just when i resllt needed it! I'm working on a large painting full of texture but reslly need the texture to have stuff peaks. I saw someones comment saying it is only good for stenciling? Could you offer me any advice? If i just make it a little thicker that should hold right? Would really appreciate any advice you could offer and thank gou in advance! ❤
Would you be able to use this as a relief paste? it would need to be a touch more fluid to go through the mini icing bag, so what do you think I should thin it down a little with, that will allow it to 'draw' an outline on canvas please?.... thank you
I've never used it the way your asking about, but I would add a little more paint, are you using acrylic paint? maybe something that makes acrylic paint flow. but be careful bc if it's too wet it will loose its shape, like it won't stay raised, test it out
just keep it in a jar with tight lid, it's a small amount that you make but it only keeps for a month or 2 before it grows mould. it's best to use it before it goes mouldy ♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
yes Michelle you can add coloured paint I have done a video on this, but I havent tried the glitter. make a batch and take out a tablespoon put it aside in a little container and add some glitter and see if you like it :-) 🥰🐝🌹🦋 crafty hugs Donna
hey Lin I don't have any oxide in my stash, but i'm thinking the oxide would more than likely colour the texture paste rather than act as a resist? the paste is kinda porous, but only a test would really tell you for sure ♡☆🦋 crafty hugs Donna
you're welcome Elizabeth, yes you could change the white paint out for cream or blue stick to the recipe for starters and then add a little more if you want it darker 🤩🦋 hugs Donna
Thank you, that is interesting!😃👍 Do you have experience that the homemade paste and glue last? Can you use them in work that you want to try selling? 🤔
hey Rikke, I reckon it lasts really well, if you mean once it drys on your medium. It will go off kept in the jar bc it has not additives involved. I personally would be confident in using it on works to for sale, just get your consistency right, and air dry to prevent cracks so it looks at it's best 🐝🌹🦋 crafty hugs Donna
Have you ever added mica powder or glitter to it to make it really shine? And if so, do you think you’d need to add more paint…or maybe powder?? Not sire which one would be needed!? Any suggestions?
hey @@pampam9590 I havent added mica powder or glitter but you sure can, no need to change the recipe just add it in with the paint and glue and stir. you can always add more powder if you like your paste thicker 🥰🐝🌹🦋 crafty hugs Donna
Thanks for the explanations of the recipe Donna. I had wondered why I couldn't buy Talcum Powder any more ! I'll try with Cornflour - UK name - it is rather confusing to me in the UK that common or garden household stuff has different names. e.g. Baking Soda = bicarbonate of soda, not "Baking Powder" (Bicarb + tartaric acid/cream of tartar - see what I mean?) So my question is - do you know what "spackling paste" is? It seems to be used by modellers to add texture. Is it "Polyfiller?" Can YOU make it? Re cleaning up - I'd have a washing up bowl of warm soapy (washing up liquid) water handy. Pop the stensils in as soon as you have finished with them and rinse the paste off immediately. Ditto a jam jar of water to keep the spatula in when it is not in use. Kitchen Roll (paper towel) at the ready! There's nothing harmful in the ingredients. I'm the responsible dish washer any way!😇
you're welcome Jacky, changing the talcum powder recipe is not surprising these big companies all about cuts to make more money. the names get me too i'm always googling lol. "spakling paste" is what builders use to either repair or finsing plaster walls, it's handy for crafting! I'm not sure if you can make it? i havent tried. thanks for your cleaning up tip paper towel is awesome stuff! it's been lovely chatting ❣ 🦋hugs Donna
hi Nancy, I think you could yes, you could mix it in a small amount at a time to get the look you like, or you could sprinkle it on top after you have used it in your stencil while its still wet. this way you would have the texture paste as is, and add sparkle to it at will. 🥰🐝🌹🦋 crafty hugs Donna
I haven't tested the recipe with plaster or without paint @habibawaseem1321 at a guess i would say it won't work well without paint (paint gives it a smooth consistency) and as for the plaster idk? 😄
Hi Marie can you elaborate? do you mean use this paste in a mould? if so it's not a moulding paste no. try an air dry clay or air dry modeling paste diy recipe for this ♡☆🦋 crafty hugs Donna
@@mariemuller2404 hhm I'm thinking maybe you might need something with a bit more body, try one of these 2 ideas... 1/ make this recipe thick as you can without being to dry that it cracks, and subtle enough that it can be manipulated with your pallet knife for instance. 2/ try using a water putty powder instead of the baby powder for a bit more body, you would mix it thick but still looking for that smooth consistency so that you can work with it. The one I have is this one and is a light tan brown colour, if you could find a brand in white it would be good prnt.sc/mI0iRUExW37X...happy researching and experimenting 😃
@@JunkJournalideas That's cool, I have been looking into flocking like wallpaper use to be flocked, and loved that when I was a kid rubbing the wallpaper that was flocked and looked so nice.
mine didn't crack at all, if your using on paper, and the stencils i use are quite thin, it shouldn't turn out thick enough to crack. I also air dry which helps ♥︎♡☆🦋 crafty hugs Donna
i have made this recipe many times and it has not cracked, if you fast dry it, it may crack, leave it to air dry slowly then it should not crack. 🥰🐝🌹🦋 crafty hugs Donna
So, with your "recipe," you could use coloured paint to make colour paste? Thanks for sharing, and hello from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺🙂 Have subscribed 🙂
g'day Janelle, i reckon you could bc this recipe is such a small batch give it a go, one this is it will be a light colour so if you can live with this it will work, if you dont add too much paint it will thin it out lots and spread not giving you the best finish, so a high pigment paint will work best 😍🥰🦋 hugs Donna
@JunkJournalideas Thanks, Mate. It was so good to tumble across you, a fellow Aussie. I watch a lot of these "craft" videos and hear things like " the dollar store" and think those lucky buggers. All we have is Silly Sollys, where the most you pay is 5 bucks. I did buy some paste previously and nearly had a heart attack, I thought strewth was there gold mixed in, for that price. 😆😀. Anyway, have a good one and thanks for the reply.
ha ha yeh I get what you mean, I don't think dollar tree is a $1 any more either? inflation has hit everywhere, btw I'm from qld to was born on mossman xx
Hello. I just bought a cheap brand modeling paste (Focus brand) but it's a creamy in texture unlike the Tim Holtz brand which has a bit thick texture. Is it okay if I add the baby powder on my paste to give it a bit thick and rough texture? Will that work as well?
good question, i can't see why not, if you take a little out just enough to put through a stencil for a test, and add some powder until you get it where you want it, then let it dry. there will be your answer. I've seen people alter store bought products before with great results, let me know how it went ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
Hi dear I used cornstarch glue and paint I didn't maid to much just 2 tablespoon cornstarch I tablespoon glue. And some paint mix good but it look like glue I stencils to try it not dry thing but look glue what I did wrong please let me know
you can use cornstarch, but if you want to use a smaller amount than i use in this recipe, just halve the recipe, don't change the amounts for each part other than half. it will then work...if it's too wet add a little more cornstarch at a time untill you get it how you want it, if it's too dry add a little more paint a tiny amount at a time stiring as you go ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna

thanks Khadija, if you want it a bit higher make the recipe a bit thicker, but just know its designed for basic crafting with stencils that arent that raised 🥰🐝🌹🦋 crafty hugs Donna
Terrific!!! Thanks for sharing.
that's ok Lady ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
Im keen to try this, thanks for the recipe and usage procedure.
My pleasure Judith, it works a treat😊🦋 hugs Donna
Thanks for sharing your recipe
my pleasure Sherry I love to share these wonderful recipes I use, hope your day is wonderful 🦋 hugs Donna
I don’t put white acrylic paint in it since I want it to be transparent so I can mix it with any color. No need for it to be white.
thanks for the tip do you just double up the glue for the wet ingredient?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE TEXTURE RECIPE I AM GOING TO TRY THIS
You are so welcome Erlinda😊 have fun it works a treat 🥰🦋 hugs Donna

Oh wow I always thought it was baking soda. I think I have baking powder on hand. Thank you
hey Marlene I used baby powder, or you can use cornflour not the baking powder ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna

Hello! I love the gridded stencil you used. Please share the stencil details, if available. Thank you.
helo Francene, it might be KaiserCraft? it was my mums and all the big 12 x12" blue stencils that I have that were hers still in the packet have KaiserCraft on them. hope you can find it I use it a lot.
Thank you…will make some stat
terrific Paula! it works a treat! ♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
Thanks for the recipe, it seems so close to the store bought why spend money buying it.
it is close and for home crafters its close enough, just know that if you only use it occasionally to only make this small batch bc it will mould if not used in 3 to 4 weeks depends on the conditions, i've had it last longer as well. have a crafty day ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
thanks so much for a great video but can i ask if you added a bit more glue would it make the paste more flexable for pputting into moulds.
@@christinejones6752 unfortunately I haven't tried this Christine, I know the way it is now it dries firm, maybe you should look for a recipe more suited to moulds because it uses silicone which makes thw mix pliable, good luck with your search 😀 🦋🌸 hugs Donna
@@JunkJournalideas thanks so much will try the silicone again..
Good one - thanks!
always my pleasure Jennifer
Thank you. Question....Can you add to store bought paste that is to thin?
I would give it a go, make a batch using this recipe into a thick concistency and ad small bit at a time to see how it mixes. let me know how it goes? 🥰🐝🌹🦋 crafty hugs Donna
ThankYou

i have just seen this and wondered how you would incorporate it into a journal. would a sentiment stick to it.
Hi Rowena, theres a few ways you can use it, on the edge of your pages, on tags and yes you can glue something over the top of it if that's what you mean about the sentiment 🥰🐝🌹🦋 crafty hugs Donna
@@JunkJournalideas thank you.
I do this with all of my acrylic brushes as well and the stencils.
yeh great tip thanks Kerry it works a treat, I make a right mess so i wipe the chunky bits off first hugs Donna 🦋😃

Hi, your purple stencil in the video is lovely - where is it from please? TIA
It sure is lovely thanks Jennifer, I don't know where this stencil is from it was my Mums and she is a crafty angel now ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
Great tutorial. Just wondering why you soevify baby powder and not just any powder. Maybe it is finer.
thanks Susane, I use baby powder because it is very fine and easy to get a hold of, you can also use corn starch if you don't mind using a food grade powder, its fine as well and it's an ingredient used in the baby powder now rather than talc that used to be used many years ago. I havent used the cornstarch i've only used baby powder and it works a treat 😍🥰🦋 hugs Donna
do we add clolours to this mixture or we add colour in place of white paint to get colout?
the variation colour i have used is a cream using a bit of yellow to the white, it's only ever been subtle to take the stark white away, and then no need to add colour over top.
if you want to use blue paint instead of white you can, but your colour will be dictated by the amount of paint you use as the recipe (same amount as if it was white) if you have some pigment paints you could add that if you want more colour bc pigment shouldn't alter the recipe too much. hope this helps Sudarshan hugs Donna
What purpose does the paint serve, besides color ? Which everyone is adding color to it anyways.
hey Audrey, the paint is to add smoothness so it's not too dry, water can evaporate and crack. the paint will help it flow nicely happy crafting ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
Thank you
you're welcome Candi ♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
Hi from Ireland. Thanks for recipe. Do you have any recipes for antiquing paste. Pentart make it but can't seem to get here. Also, any idea how to make crackle glaze or crackle varnish. Expensive items as well. All art materials cost a lot really. Any ideas would be appreciated. ❤
No, sorry Deborah, i havent I only use this texture paste ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
Love the video like always!!❤️❤️❤️
hey Dorothy we havent spoken in ages!! hope your doing really well (❁´◡`❁) 🦋 hugs Donna
We are doing fine! Yes it has been a long while. Hope you and the family are doing great!❤️
@@DonebyDorothy we should catch up private one day soon x
I've jusd across your vudeo, just when i resllt needed it! I'm working on a large painting full of texture but reslly need the texture to have stuff peaks. I saw someones comment saying it is only good for stenciling? Could you offer me any advice? If i just make it a little thicker that should hold right? Would really appreciate any advice you could offer and thank gou in advance! ❤
hey blankcanvas, yes make it a lot thicker and you will get peaks. test it first and if it doesnt work you, you may need to change product
Thanks for sharing! Do you think using corn starch instead of the baby powder would work as will?
hi Rimas, I've never made it with cornstarch, but yes you can let me know how it goes I f you try it 🦋❤️
Would you be able to use this as a relief paste? it would need to be a touch more fluid to go through the mini icing bag, so what do you think I should thin it down a little with, that will allow it to 'draw' an outline on canvas please?.... thank you
I've never used it the way your asking about, but I would add a little more paint, are you using acrylic paint? maybe something that makes acrylic paint flow. but be careful bc if it's too wet it will loose its shape, like it won't stay raised, test it out
How can you store for next project ?
just keep it in a jar with tight lid, it's a small amount that you make but it only keeps for a month or 2 before it grows mould. it's best to use it before it goes mouldy ♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
Can you add coloured paint and glitter ?
yes Michelle you can add coloured paint I have done a video on this, but I havent tried the glitter. make a batch and take out a tablespoon put it aside in a little container and add some glitter and see if you like it :-) 🥰🐝🌹🦋 crafty hugs Donna
@JunkJournalideas ok I will do thank you 😊
Hi Donna, will this texture paste work as a resist for Distress Oxide inks?
hey Lin I don't have any oxide in my stash, but i'm thinking the oxide would more than likely colour the texture paste rather than act as a resist? the paste is kinda porous, but only a test would really tell you for sure ♡☆🦋 crafty hugs Donna
Perfect..thank you for your informations.
Is it suitable for making
Russian flowers?
I'd be greateful.❤
if they are a drawing in stencil form of course yes, happy creating ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
Thank you for sharing. Can you add colour to this paste and how much🙏
you're welcome Elizabeth, yes you could change the white paint out for cream or blue stick to the recipe for starters and then add a little more if you want it darker 🤩🦋 hugs Donna
@@JunkJournalideas Thank you so much! 😃👍
I'll try with Cornflour - UK name - it is rather confusing to me in the UK that common or garden household stuff has different names. e.g. Baking Soda = bicarbonate of soda, not "Baking Powder" (Bicarb + tartaric acid/cream of tartar - see what I mean?)
So my question is - do you know what "spackling paste" is? It seems to be used by modellers to add texture. Is it "Polyfiller?" Can YOU make it?
Re cleaning up -
I'd have a washing up bowl of warm soapy (washing up liquid) water handy.
How do you prevent it from cracking when it dries?
let it air dry slowly, don't speed it up by putting it in the sun or extreme heat, i haven't had any cracking with air drying
I clean with baby wipes first, then wash.
great tip thanks! 🥰🐝🌹🦋 crafty hugs Donna
Great video! I was wondering if you have any trouble with this cracking when it dries? Mine did and I have no idea what I did wrong!
no mine has never cracked, did you air dry it?
@@JunkJournalideas yes I did air dry. When it was too thick, I added a little water, could that have caused the cracking?
Can you add sparkle to it?
hi Nancy, I think you could yes, you could mix it in a small amount at a time to get the look you like, or you could sprinkle it on top after you have used it in your stencil while its still wet. this way you would have the texture paste as is, and add sparkle to it at will. 🥰🐝🌹🦋 crafty hugs Donna
@ thank you. I need to try this 🥰
@@NancyKluz-tb7ij the sparkle sounds nice Nancy, enjoy experimenting x
Whats the difference between plaster and baby powder ? And is necesarry to add white or any paint while mixing ? Or if we dont add ?
I haven't tested the recipe with plaster or without paint @habibawaseem1321 at a guess i would say it won't work well without paint (paint gives it a smooth consistency) and as for the plaster idk? 😄
Has anyone tried any fine glitter/ embossing powder? Not sure if it will show through. Thanks in advance🤗
I've not tried it Pat, I don't use glitter much at all to be honest. ✨ ♥︎♡☆🦋 hugs Donna
Can you use this paste for making flowers?
Hi Marie can you elaborate? do you mean use this paste in a mould? if so it's not a moulding paste no. try an air dry clay or air dry modeling paste diy recipe for this ♡☆🦋 crafty hugs Donna
I mean can you use this paste for 3 dimensional sculpture paste?
Would this also work if you wanted to flock it before you remove the stencil?
I don't know sorry, flocking is something I have not tried 🦋 hugs Donna
@@JunkJournalideas That's cool, I have been looking into flocking like wallpaper use to be flocked, and loved that when I was a kid rubbing the wallpaper that was flocked and looked so nice.
Does the home made texture paste crack or does it move with the paper like the professional paste does without cracking?
mine didn't crack at all, if your using on paper, and the stencils i use are quite thin, it shouldn't turn out thick enough to crack. I also air dry which helps ♥︎♡☆🦋 crafty hugs Donna
TFS 😊
You’re welcome Nigezza 😊🦋 hugs Donna
If i want cracks in the texture paste for a canvas what can i do?
i have made this recipe many times and it has not cracked, if you fast dry it, it may crack, leave it to air dry slowly then it should not crack.

@@JunkJournalideas thanks for this. :) keep safe!
@@JunkJournalideas Hello. It went really well and it dried up faster than without the baby powder. :)
Couldn't you just use grout that is used for tile? I have a lot of that left from tile in my bathroom.
hey Jan, i know what you mean, I guess you could try it as long as it's not too wet a mix, iv'e never used it let me know if you try it? 🦋 hugs Donna
I have successfully used it.
I personally use the drywall spackle, it's cheap n worx great lol
@JunkJournalideas Thanks dear I will do that God bless you 🙏
