They had some troubles in... Thirties, I guess? Don't really remember, but there was a point in Soviet history, when people were just collapsing at the street. Starving to death, as they walk. My grandparents survived that period by having excess some corn stashed up from before it started. And, in spite of all that, doctor's sausage could actually help you with malnutrition, because apparently it was easy to digest. Not sure if I described it correctly, because I didn't actually study Soviet history, just heard some from the older relatives

We have sausage like this in Germany too.. we call it "Fleischwurst" which basically translates to "meat sausage". I think they are pretty much the same.

Ah yes, the only sausage one needs in his life. It is also an essential part of the Hungarian kitchen ... especially as student. You name it omelette, pasta, sandwich , etc. Eat it out of the bag, fry it, boil it ... there's just no limit to what you can do with it.

Myself I usually just stick to liverpate and some dark bread since that's what's readily available in DK. In poland it was actually Dr Sausage because it came in big rolls for almost no money and it could be eaten cold, fried, added to eggs. It was a pretty versatile thing to have around and it had a longer shelf life than for example a whole chicken or a head of lettuce.
For those who don't know what 'chernobyl rainwater' is, its called taragan (tah-reh-gahn), or tarragon. Not the herb, but rather the drink (which does have the herb inside of it). It is an acquired taste for most, however I would still recommend it.
