India has about 5000 years history. Is there something, any kind of monuments still standing from ancient times, like the Parthenon in Greece? Have you been there already?

If you are still in that region visit places whr most utubers don't go-- Udupi & Manipal - whr several banks actually have their roots. The Coin museum has interesting ancient artifacts & owner will share stories most of us don't know. If you request you can see the room of the founder .
Must visit the Hastshilpa Heritage Village-- some traditional houses from all over have literally been transported here & recreated.
The 800+ year old Krishna Temple has an interesting story linked to it. There are plenty temples around it with Shiv temple being even older.
Closeby is Mangalore where there are several family run restaurants/ eateries. Pereiras is one such 100+ year old restaurant in
Mangalore where again the Owner has very interesting stories to share. Then there are the Churches & Chapels built during Colonial rule
1 or 2 days max across Udupi, Manipal & Mangalore - depending on what you want to see

In 1378 AD, when the Tamil king Pandyas fought to reclaim their capital Madurai from the control of the Delhi Sultanate, the vijayanagar Empire intervened and captured Madurai. The vijayanagar Empire, which had insisted on Brahminical principles from the beginning, ignored the Pandyas after the war victory and appointed its Telugu servent Nayak as the governor of Madurai. The vijayanagar Empire banned the Tamil language and declared Sanskrit and Kannada as the official languages of Madurai. Tamils were heavily taxed and their lands were confiscated and given to Brahmins and Telugus. He stopped the ongoing construction work at Madurai and exiled the architects to Kannada and established a new city called Vijayanagar.
vijayanagar rule imposed heavy taxation and enslavement of non-tax payers, but Brahmins were exempted from all taxes and punishments. He went a step further and gifted women to Brahmins, merchants and scholars. In short, Vijayanagar became a rich man's paradise. But this did not last long. In the peak of war between the islamic rulers and the vijayanagar emperors took place at talikota in 1565. Krishnappa Nayak, who was supposed to send troops from Madurai to Talikotta in support of the vijayanagar Empire, deliberately delayed which led to the fall of the vijayanagar empire. As a result, the capital city of vijayanagar was looted and destroyed by the enemy, Tamil rebels and by the common people for 6 months, after which it remained in ruins.

Hampi the richest city in the world and the capital of of Vijayanagara empire, now it's a village. although 95% of the place is destroyed due to invasion and rest are destroyed partially but still it is one of the most beautiful places ever. is also very calm and quiet place away from the busyness of the cities.

Karl: Kailasa temple & Ellora caves were constructed by Rashtrakutas, a dynasty from Karnataka. Vijayanagar empire followed in the same footsteps. That's the reason why you see similarities.
Further, you should visit Aihole, Badami, Pattadakallu to see the artistic talent of that era.

Not many know about this, but the birthplace of Lord Hanuman is not too far from Hampi. Its called called Anjanadri hills.
Hampi is without a doubt, a priceless, timeless part of Indian history - which needs to be cherished more than it is currently!

Congratulations on your continued success. You're very likable guy and I can't tell you how high of a complement it is. Having said that I want to vent a little bit. I could not enjoy being in a country where the people throw trash on the ground. Even though I am content and at peace the thought would run through my mind to run up to everybody and ask him what their problem is. It wouldn't be enjoyable as trash depresses me.

Welcome to Karnataka karl! South india has even greater rich history and traditions than north ! This whole month of November we kannadigas celebrate 'kannada rajyothsava' ( integration of all kannada speaking lands and formation of karnataka state) its good month to travel around my state, dont be surprised to see Karnataka yellow and red flag 💛❤ hoisted everywhere for celebration!! I suggest The Hoysala Temples built by mightly kannada empire of 'Hoysalas' (Beast killers in kannada) of belur, Hale beedu, someshwara temples which recently recognized as Unesco world heritage sites.
    Jai Karnataka!!

It this offends anyone am helpless but its the truth! In terms of culture and traditions 'South India is the real india' its a historical fact . Its so because north india's inability to protect and preserve Indian culture by vending off invaders, so north india got 'Cultural assimilation' loosing native culture. While our ancestors in south india fought and kicked ass of invaders, never let their shadow touch our motherlands great and mighty kannada, Tamil, Telugu and kerala empires Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Hoysalas, karnata empire (vijayanagara) cholas, pandyas, cheras, kakathiyas. Hence, our age old ancient and native cultures are preserverd making us the real custodians of indegenous languages, cultures, traditions of ancient india.

@@TheChintu-il3sq I think u are ignorant , even though north india has been attacked by invadors , n 40,000 temples have been demolished ,but they always protected n safeguarded their land , culture n heritage , they didn't bow down ,frm kings to maharana pratap , jhasi rani , several rajput kings , maratha kings like shivaji maharaj , n kings in east lachit borpukhan who have defeated Mughals 7 times , n many more like them have fought hard ,thats why hindus are still in majority here n practicing their culture till date , more than south , some of the ancient temples like , badrinath temple , Birla temple , kashi vishwanath , kedarnath , Akshardham , khajurao temple unesco heritage in MP, mansa devi temple , vaishno devi temple ,golden temple , Akshardham n many more are preserved n functional , n recentely after waiting for 500 yrs they again reclaimed their temple lost to invadors by fighting battle legally , n building ram temple by demolishing mosque built by babar , n many more to come , the temples in South were safeguarded due to tough resistance of Hindu kings here in north , I think u should visit n study the history of whole india , other than south , kerala has become 50% of muslim state , youth are radicalised , mass conversion are going in South states like andhra ,tamil nadu etc,by the churches run by christian missionaries , u don't even know how the govt are utilising the donations n funds of temples , n u are talking abt north ,those people are still visiting temples , following the rituals , standing for their rights , preserved their culture until now n are fighting till date by reclaiming their lost temples n building it , n same in every part of india .

Dravidian chapris. The resistance of North kings are the main reason why South was mostly protected. Who destroyed Hoysala, vijayangara all of them were direct attack of Islamic invaders, and empire crumble down. While north India was facing it for 2000 years . Afghanistan is the great example

Hampi is just beyond beautiful. Some of the places, like the Queens baths, lotus palace, elephant stables. It takes your breath away. The step well, canal systems. Carved plates/ thalis and katories , amazing. The monolith huge doors, which could only be opened by elephants. Secret underground chamber, so the king could have discussions and no one else would hear. The administration area is spectacular. You see carvings of elephants, horses and camels. That was a sign that trade used to take place with Persia and Arabia. There are two pillars near this area, which were used as lathes, to shape the pillars into perfect rounds. The technology behind all of this is so wonderful to see. The main temples, the chariot, and the musical pillars. if it was in a western country it would have been wonder of the world.

The thing is you see people selling fruits and flowers on the streets of Hampi today in this video it is highly believed that a lot of gemstones, including lot of diamonds, which India was a highest exporter at the time were being sold on the same streets in a handful. what wouldn’t I give to go back to those days? Love Karnataka ❤

One of the interesting things of Virupaksha temple is the pinhole camera we have there, where we can see gopuram in inverse, I was so excited when I saw it first as a kid :)

Really great video an nice to see Hampi again. I was there 28 years ago. Really quiet back then. I remember all of it, watchin your great video. Really a magic place, the best on my trip back then. I remember the Mudarai temple in Tamil Nadu, as a great experience too, Have you been there. All carvings are in color. And a lot og naughty stuff in the carvings. Can you maybe explain the mening of the more sexual carvings?
I´ll try to find the video of your first visit to Hampi.
Keep up the good work Karl.
    Greetings from Denmark.

Just found your channel (and then similar channels showed up in the feed). I live in the U.S., you average American life, you might say. What strikes me as absolutely amazing and what you do (and the other guy from France), is how easily you seem to take beat up to your physical person - the food poisoning, being hit with an egg, the physical hardships, threatening people sometime . . . . I don’t understand why anyone would CHOOSE to live that way. No criticism or anything like that, just shock I guess. Anyway, thank you for posting. You’ve expanded my world and I appreciate that.

Are you referring to the whole India living thing? No its actually peaceful and fun. Don't think the whole of the experience is only chaos and food poisoning.

I wish govt upgrade infra and keep this place look more beautiful. Hampi has potential to become a international tourist hub.
