  • Learning how to survive on an increasingly crowded planet is probably our ultimate challenge. But there’s one place, home to over a sixth of the world’s population, which is already making a good shot at adapting: welcome to India. This extraordinary observational series casts aside the usual preconceptions about the sub-continent, and lets a few of India’s 1.2 billion show how their world really works.

The poverty, the hustling, the everyday struggles, the loan shark, the unfair gold boss, the unfair guy with the gold smelter and then you see their smiles, hear their laughter see them in their fun days just playing cricket and their lives just go on living on hope and faith that one day I'll make it big and get out of here...I wish all them them the very best that life can offer them👏👏👏🙏

As a Chinese I find some of this a little disturbing - too much squalor, I'm sorry to say. But somehow the people's faces are still attractive and their smiles mesmerising. I won't (and can't) laugh at these people, I am humbled by their immense toughness and dignity. I ask myself, "Can I be like them? Can I be born into poverty and hardship and have that kind of dignity and grit?" India has a long way to go, but hey, dear Indian brothers and sisters, we are BOTH from thousand-year-old cultures and we both know time is on your side! Way to go India!

This is not real india . This is one small part of it. The lager part is a vibrant, aspirational educated middle class . But westerner love to show this poverty porn.. as this makes them feel better for themselves. Come visit Oakland and sfo downtown allies … it is worst then any shithole. But this man will not make video about that.: as it’s doesn’t suite their narrative and propaganda.

The story of the young gold digger who broke away from his tyranic boss & landlord to become his own boss, formed his own clan & found a roof over their head deserves a movie. He is so smart & knew he could do better than his boss, treat his own worker better for much better return on investment, find a better buyer, hire a taxi to get there quick. I bet he will rise to the top some day. However, the people surviving on the beach selling alcohol, I feel sorry for them because a solid roof over your head is the first step in the human hierarchy of need without a roof, there's no safety ^ you can't function properly plus selling alcohol which only brings more human misery, is a bad combination.

However, such totally broken structures also produce very clever minds whose cleverness is challenged. In well-ordered societies, such instincts can no longer develop and this often creates a drug problem from which wealthy countries increasingly suffer. Nevertheless, India has collapsed, the fact that everyone is fed is a miracle, nonetheless.

I would still prefer money, in general. What you can do with enough money: refuse to work, live in a nice house with garden, travel, buy sports goods and play/exercise in corresponding grounds, buy good food, especially in restaurants, get good health insurance. - It is otherwise told to relieve the poor.

@@sadiequinlan We are anyway posed to work only during half of our life. Even less than 1/3rd of that. Do you want child labour, no retirement, working from birth till death? Arguments: 1. In interviews with moribunds, the number one regret in life turned out: having work too much and hard. 2. Seminal founders of religions and philosophies like Buddha, Jesus, Schopenhauer, Marx inherited or were helped , which enabled them to achieve their goals. 3. It is extremely improbable that one's work is as gratifying as any other interest or hobby of choice. 4. There are not enough job positions globally. South Korea produces alone 1/3 of screens and mobile phones. So better to leave the work to others who need it. 5. Working means today mostly sitting, which is not healthy. I do the contrary: live about like a hunter-gatherer. Move up to 5 hours daily (cycling, hiking, swimming, skiing). Get hungry, thirsty, exhausted, exposed to sunlight. So no steady pampering. P. S. What is the later fare of Suvita, will she remain beautiful and happy?

I read, write comments, blog 3 hours daily. The rest exploring nature, cuisines, travelling by train and bicycle, attending concerts, cinemas, shows in the evening. Then the house, the pets, the clubs. Other sports I like: swimming, cross-country skiing, hiking. @@sadiequinlan

Indians remind me a lot of Africans. They take life's challenges with courage, good humour, stoicness and optimism. I am not surprised that a German guy told me that by the 3rd quarter of the 21st century, India will have the largest economy in the world.

Instead of blaming others,we have to make a proper introspection.even after 76 years of independence if we see a lower strata in our society, that shows the failure of our political class.they did not perform their duties well.things can be improved if there is political will.these leaders go to other countries and see the facilities given to their citizens.still they fail to deliver such things to Indian citizens.we think that people are suffering because of their karma or fate. This philosophy is hindering our progress.progress of country is brought about by the development of all citizens.the government must work for that .

As an Indian this is true😢 but this is only 1 % part rest India is good ,fine people living healthy having decent and good homes earning well , educating their children ,
You all should wonder why indians who get good education are dominating world because all indians are sharp but they all didn't get that opportunities and condition so sad 😢.
I wish India will surpass this things and will grow .
You all people from different countries should not laugh at this , living and earning and education is tough here but once you grow indians are unstoppable.

An international org ran a test by dropping wallets with money to see how many are returned in all major cities in the world. Mumbai ranked #2 in honesty in the world. This happens every time they run the test.
