    My brother just bought one. It's quite impressive compared to my 2003 STI (STI JDM conversion). Handles well, I like the 1" lift, and I prefer this engine . It seems to have impressive capabilities. Brakes are the first upgrade then skid plates. But then we prefer our Subarus with a lift, 16" wheels, and AT tires for dirt and rally.

      @@WIDEBODYNATION I think the only VB I could tolerate aesthetically is the new bespoke NBR Challenge wide body. That seems to overcome the fugly rear for me for the most part. The stock VB just looks so Frankenstein with that huge rear bumper cover hanging off the rear with the slender body. If Subaru intended to make the rear look like a rally car, then do the same the rest of the body!

    Cobb has the subaru community completely brainwashed into thinking every time you touch the car you need a tune. I just recently bought my 1st subaru (2022BRZ) and it absolutely amazes me how little much of the online community knows. I have been building\modding\tuning cars for decades and I can tell you these cars are not much different than any other modern vehicle. The ECU is way smarter than people seem to think. I currently have full exhaust with header, intake and run an E85 tune on a completely stock tune. The car LOVES it and is completely fine. Its been on a dyno multiple times. Its making more power and has a very safe AFR. I do plan on tuning at some point, but it makes sense to do all the bolt ons 1st. Dont listen to all the fan boys. Most of them have sucked down too much vape juice and have no clue how a car works.

  • @716Flat4
    @716Flat4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    According to every dynotuner out there, the ETS is the WORST intake to get without a tune as even with the MAF sleeve, it is just too big and WILL run super lean. Perrin #1 for no tune, AEM #2 for no tune and #1 for with tune up to about 350awhp. ETS #1 for tune above 350AWHP. It is the best for performance in mind, but the worst to not get a tune. 100%, you put an AP on it and it will read lean as hell. That being said, it probably wont be an issue so long as you arent going nuts. the fuel adjustments from the computer can only go so far.

    Just bought a magnetite gray TR roughly 4K under MSRP. I ordered the STI short shifter and ground effects in cherry blossom red, should go well with the brembo brakes and add a needed pop of color. Torn on a wing versus trunk spoiler; I'm focused on effect over aethestics and the STI engineers designed the VB without a wing. If a company can prove a wing works with it i might get one in the future when the car is track ready. I have Tomei ti type D, AMS TMIC, AMS CAI, Fortune 500 coilovers, Perrin charge pipe, and am currently shopping for turbo back piping; all will go on with a dyno session and tune at Felix Performance after 5K miles. I want to make sure the car isnt a lemon before i turn it into a race car. Will save up for an STI transmission swap to install in 4-5 years...or pay for repairs out of warranty 😂. Final form focus is 450/450 with second set of wheels and tires for regular track runs. Whole thing gives me a hobby and community for post military retirement life so I dont find myself back in treatment or worse.

    I traded my 2020 sti for the VB. The car is much different now that it's on subarus global platform. The powerband is smooth and pulls all the way through. The suspension is much better drives nicer. I have the sti short throw in , and it is just a nice car now. I test drove the snot out of one before I realized these vehicles need to be broken in by the owner (I’m so very sorry to the person who buys it), even with the summer tires on I was able to drive in snow and on ice, admittedly slower than with some blizzak tires, but even in the 4 inches of snow on this little side road that was not plowed we did not get stuck, we were crawling along slinging snow and inching forward with the car in 2nd gear and the revs around 3k-3.5k. The car handles great, feels powerful enough to daily. My only issue was the seats on the premium in cloth are not comfortable, in the 30 minutes I was in the car I could tell they need to be replaced. The shifter was okay but it felt like it was getting hung up on the gates between gears, I assume the STi short throw shifter would cure that at least. If I could I would steal the Recaro’s from the GT trim.

I'm glad you mentioned that the catback exhaust and the intake not making much a performance difference so I'll put them off till I have a house. Will most likely wait until the 36000 mile mark before modding, I'll probably do ARP headstuds and look at transmission upgrades before I do any tuning.

    • @My3lilmonsters
      @My3lilmonsters ปีที่แล้ว

      @WIDEBODY NATION I'm in the same boat, from my understanding, the transmission is nearly identical to the previous generation except for a gearing change (feel free to correct me) in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. To a more aggressive gearing to make up a better pairing in the torque band not seen in the FA20's in the lower end. I'm also curious as to everyone with the mention that ethanol mixed gases have produced better power returns. Just a question for whoever maybe able to answer this but I have been running 0% ethanol premium 91 (known as recreational gas) that we have up here, as the only other option is 87 at 15%, will this become a problem or will I be okay.
      I look forward to your build and future builds as well as what insight you guys find on reliability issues or wins down the road! Cheers!

Viewed one at the dealer in July when I brought my Forester in for service. Sorry I think I will need to go for the Type R instead. This tail end is just way too ugly to tolerate. I see them on the road and wince.
      The only solution I can envision is lopping off that ~3 inches of steel overhang under the bumper cover and then redesigning the cover to not protrude so much like a diaper. Also the NBR Challenge wide body looks fabulous if building a 500 HP vehicle.

    To even compare this car to an STI is such a slap in the face to the STI community, this car has poor brakes, poor all around looks, it looks like a lowered sedan version of the Crosstrek, Subaru really let people down by producing a car that has only 3HP more than the FA20, I'm so thankful I got a 2021 because with a simple tune it improved the overall drivability of the car that everyone seems to complain about. Sorry to sound harsh but I've followed these cars since 2002 with the Bugeye and this by far the worst Generation for these cars.

For the top of the line GT trim which is as much as a Limited STI was to be only offered in an automatic is really a big blow to Subaru enthusiasts, Just a very disappointing generation with pricing, option trims and looks
