    Got one of these a few years ago not long after it was released. My favorite peated Bunna is a homemade one I have done several times. You can very the ratio depending on how much peat you want 70%-80% Bunna 12 and 20%-30% Ardbeg Ugidail. Put away in a full sample bottle for at least two weeks so it can marry then if they are from new bottles pour into a larger bottle with some air space for a week to open up. For me the Ardbeg kind of takes over even though there is less of it in there but it's a fab peated Islay sherry dram you can make for something unique. Cheers Ladies.

    Another great review.
    Love the extra tidbits about bunna, Gaelic words, etc.
    Super excited to hear bunna might be back into black bottle. Dropped in quality since they left.

    You’ll find a number of IB bottlings which are from an unnamed Islay distillery are Staoisha. It’s what they sell to other companies for blending purposes. Brendon McCarron has hinted he feels too much goes to other companies in this fashion.

      Interesting. Noticed in 2019 there were several indies selling 5yr Staoisha from de char re char hogsheads and in 2020 different bottlers were selling 6yr ones. Guess in 2014 they filled quite a few of those casks for sale? Cheers Ben

    Currently going through a bottle of Bunnahabhain 12 and loving every sip & sniff of it. As a major Peathead I would love to get a bottle of Toiteach, unfortunately none of the shops around carry it. Nice review & cheers!

    Though I love Bunnahabhain, I really love to tell others about it just so I have an excuse to say "Bunnahabhain" to them.

    I love this one and had an amazing IB of Staoisha (Laphroaig levels of peat) and its a shame they don't want to bother with their peated whisky, because its so good! A cask strength toiteach, a first fill sherry version, wine finishes.... Its a huge missed opportunity (I definitely prefer it to unpeated bunnahabhain

    Absolutely love the Bunna 12 😀
    Might have to try and find a bottle of this.
    Is there a big price difference between this and the 12 in the UK.

    Nice review guys - I had a dram of this in the Pot Still as a nightcap tonight - it was rich and pleasantly smokey - very impressed - I must seek out a bottle - do you stock it?

    Can you guys review glen ness 12 year. I think most people dont think much of it because it is on the bottom shelf at total wine in usa, I really like it , it has carmel and spice notes for me and is smooth with a long nice finish. Thanks bye

      Oh wow that's one we have never heard of. A quick search online shows its not available to us here unfortunately and I can even find what distillery it comes from. Do you have any guesses? We will be sure to look out for it next time we are in the states!

    I think staoisha is the trade name for the peated whisky they sell to indie bottlers. Nice review of a nice whisky 🥃 one for folk to consider that are gutted by the new price of Lagavulin 16

    • @TheGrailTastings
      @TheGrailTastings  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, as we say in the video, both Staoisha and Moine are alternative names used, both for the peated spirit they make there. They use this instead of Bunnahabhain on the label of some indy bottlings but Bunna themselves also use the Moine name on some bottlings. Moine means "Peat" and Stoisha is a loch near to the distillery. The Lagavulin 16 is a nice dram but one we find that people seem to get a bit stuck on!

    I felt that Toiteach A Dha tastes too young. Definitely younger than the 12 year. I wish they aged it longer. Also not getting the sherry that I get on the 12. I do love peated malts, just not this one. I could see blending the 12 year with a different peated whisky that someone else commented. I'd probably like that better. Also the 12 year is $20 cheaper in my area than the Toiteach A Dha.

    • @TheGrailTastings
      @TheGrailTastings  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah See wee quite like the peaty ones younger for more of the peat kick!

    Apologies in advance: I certainly don't want to sound like the pronunciation police, but pronunciations do interest me--intrinsically, i.e. not simply for wishing to not get things "wrong"--and I believe Bunna's website says pronunciation is: "Toch-ach ah-ghaa". You both seem to be putting an "i" before the "ch", not quite but sort of like "toy-chek", and you're also pronouncing the "D" in Dha rather than "ghaa"? I usually say "Boona-ha-van" rather than the harder "Bun" sound, but I see from your pronunciations vid that both are broadly accepted even if Bun might be more common/typical in Scotland.
