    Hello Shrimp People!
Today's video is a long time in the making! I've bred thousands of shrimp over the years and wanted to share what has worked for me in terms of feeding my shrimp! Today's video is my TOP 5 FAVORITE FOODS (which also happen to be natural!)
I only make recommendations based on long term experience and success, and I use all of these foods as staples in my shrimp room and the amount and frequency of feeding depends on colony size
The SNOWFLAKE & MULBERRY LEAVES can be left in the tank as long as it takes your shrimp to eat it, without causing problems. (Makes for a great food to feed right before you go on vacation, because it lasts!)
The SUPER GREEN is a huge hit in my tanks and I've never had any leftovers. But, if your colony is small you may want to remove uneaten food
The BABY POWDER is a fantastic food for babies, who are not very mobile their first week of life. The tiny food particles make their way to all areas of the tank, making it possible for those babies have food within easy reach. Plus, shrimp of all sizes will enjoy it. I start using powder food once my colony starts having babies (at that point it also is fed to the entire colony regularly)
We can encourage the growth of BIOFILM in our tanks by using leaf litter, cholla and botanicals. The shrimp don't eat the nature items themselves, rather they eat the layer of BIOFILM on these surfaces... which is a collection of microorganisms, diatoms, algae, fungi etc
All of the foods shown in this video are available in my shop

    Thank you for this information!!!
I saw a couple shrimp in my tank "doing it"
The male just jumped onto that poor female.
I thought I saw her pregnant shrimp a couple or three weeks ago, and yes there are babies in the tank now.
This is all in a small 5 gallon tank. This tank is the happy happy tank and so healthy.
Believe it or not, I've only done one water change.
I think it is because the way I set it up in January.

Thank You very much for sharing your experiences on natural shrimp food. This super green seems to be very delicious for the shrimps 😎 I've tried a lot of diffrent leaves, my shrimps love dried green Walnut leaves most. Once they are soaked with water again, the leave is barely skeletonitzed within 48 hours. Very easy to collect and storeable when dried and flatened in a book, and also a great vacation food.
Besides that, blanched stinging nettle leaves and blanched spinach leaves are highly anticipated by my fosterlings 😊

Love yr videos. How much and how often should we feed ?

    • @ShrimpLife
      @ShrimpLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks Helcio! :) There is no actual formula to frequency and feeding amount, its about making your own adjustments based on how your shrimp respond to foods you offer. As you colony gets larger you will notice they are more interested in eating foods you offer. Thats because when you start out, lets say with 10 shrimp- they are being sustained by the biofilm. Try feeding them a tiny piece of food every few days and see how they react to it. Add more food or feed more frequently if they finish the food quickly. If they don't eat anything or much, feed less food and less frequently. As your colony grows, you will find biofilm alone isn't enough. The shrimp will eagerly accept the foods we offer as the colony gets bigger, because of lack of biofilm to sustain the amount of shrimp. When there are many shrimp, thats when they actually need us to feed them! Foods like Snowflake or Mulberry leaves are useful because you can leave in the tank even if the shrimp don't want it right away. I hope this helps!
