  • How to feed cucumber to fish, snails, plecos and shrimp. Cucumber is a good food to fish fish, snails and shrimp. To easy to prepare and store. Cut the cucumber or zucchini into slices, add it to a pan of boiling water for a few minutes. Once it’s blanched put it in some cold water, this will stop the blanching process.

    If you find your cucumber still floats, give it a good squeeze or two getting the air out and it sinks right down! :) xx

      I never boil or Blancing them. Within an hour or so in the tank the veggie will be more then soft enough for anything to eat. Blancing is just a personal preference

    just as a kind reminder that in order to preserve water quality its actually best to remove the seeds and center part of the cucumber/zucchini as they tend to degrade relatively quickly and the fish and little critters don't usually bother with the middle anyway :) actually by running the cucumber in an ice bath it maintains the cucumber's cell structure which means that it wouldn't break down as quickly in comparison to you just blanching the cucumber and popping it into the tank, which allows the fish and other invertebrates to graze on for a longer period of time, rather than having a mushy mess and fouling the water :) just be careful like Shelia said with pesticides and stuff :)

    • @Lifewithpets72
      @Lifewithpets72  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      We keep the center part as the snails love to eat it. They eat that part first so the cucumber looks like a donut! Then they work on the rest.

    • @kingnamsuxx
      @kingnamsuxx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hey Shelia! thanks so much for replying! thats cute that your little snails eat like cucumbers like a donut! my comment was meant to be for fish keepers who put in cucumbers/zucchini for bottom dwelling fish like plecos :)

    Hello Shelia, I've always wanted to be on one of your live chats. How do I find out when and how to be a part of your next live stream. The Micro Worms we got from you a month and a half ago are still going and going I have like 8 master cultures going. I've tried a bunch of different substrates and we have found baby organic oatmeal is the very best for reproduction they thrive in it. Glad I have a child in the house lol. Do you post up when you will be doing a live stream? I just saw that Cory from aquarium co-op has just posted a date for his. Thanks Sheila for the amazing culture. and all the great and informative videos.

    How do you know how much to feed? I have a new-ish tank with 4-5 ghost shrimp and a few trumpet snails, and I've found that even doing a quarter as much pellet food as the instructions on the package say, more than half the food goes uneaten. I'm not sure if they don't like it, or they just aren't hungry. There isn't any algae in my tank, and I haven't seen them grazing on any of my plants or the like. I want to try veggies to see if they prefer that, but I don't know how much to put in...
