    I'm going to wear a jean jacket to a job interview, but because I feel like I'm too casual, instead of taking off the jean jacket, I'm going to put a double breasted jacket over it. I didn't get the job.

    Five ways to be a pretentious turd...
    1. Pronounce words with D at the end, instead of T, i.e. 'It starded off here...' or 'sophisticaided' constantly.
    2. Suggest a bag by the designer Matra Kosimbo for 'pottering around', for example going to the corner shop to buy a Pot Noodle, or a scratch card.
    3. Casually reference lots of obscure Japanese designers, or better still, make some up. Mojî Moshotiwa works well this season.
    4. Say 'no sock' instead of 'no socks' and 'pop' a shirt.
    5. Have a vacuous jazz Muzak track playing in the background for added pretentiousness.
    So thanks for reading my five ways to be a pretentious turd, and I hope you've found something that works for you.

    • @thehumblegent
      @thehumblegent 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      But by that rationale, how would I know if I liked it? I have to watch it to discover if I like it. As it turns out, I liked it, but probably for different reasons than you.
      The 'wonderful news' comment. Does it mean wonderful news to me, or you?

    I think that part of the reason that they do so much layering is to show the versatility. Anybody can pair a nice pair of chinos and a white shirt if it gets a bit hot but with this you can have all of the layer you want if it's a bit cool but if you start taking the layers off it still remains congruent,

    Not really sure that a gilet is "great" for when you get caught in a summer shower lol. Perhaps something like a lightweight rain mac, tucked away in a carry bag would be more practical. Nylon of course, or else it's gonna crease like a b*#ch lol.

  • @MJin03
    @MJin03 10 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    It's all about textures, colours and patterns. This is the link between run way and everyday mainstream trends. "Fashion" like this is to showcase more practical combinations and variations of styles which people can see and experience. When a combination is well received by more people it starts to become the trend which is accepted by the mainstream. In the whole video he kept saying "try this", "I think this" or "I feel this". Never did he say you must wear this jacket with this shirt and then these shoes.
    For example in no.2, if you like the denim shirt style with this chino but not the quilted gilet then don't wear the gilet. He is suggesting that denim shirts and gilets are more suitable for a casual stroll in the park as opposed to a blazer. These are not "set outfits" with set rules like a suit. People who think this is gay is completely missing the point of this. He suggests tone, textures and layers which he think could work together interestingly but it's up to you on how you really want to wear any of it.

    *Sees something not prototypically masculine* "UGH GAY." -____-'

    • @itsgian
      @itsgian 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Judge Valor because it's impossible to know someone's sexuality solely based on the clothing they wear? Neil Patrick Harris is a god to some straight men- he wears tailored suits and the actor of Barney Simpson. Guess what? He's gay as fuck. The sooner people learn to unlearn stereotyping the sooner this world will be a better place.

    • @itsgian
      @itsgian 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Judge Valor case and point lol

    • @itsgian
      @itsgian 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Judge Valor I understood you fully and completely. The point you're missing is that all of that shit you just listed are social constructs.
      There's no absolute correlation between hormones in your body to what we define as "femininity" or "masculinity".
      The only reason we identify people on the clothing they wear is because we're socialized into believing those categorizations.
      "Man" and "woman" are also gendered terms, whereas "straight" and "homosexual" refer to sexuality.
      While there is a relationship between gender and sexuality, if one is feminine leaning it doesn't absolutely indicate they might be gay.
      What happens when you see someone who's nearly completely androgynous? Are they a man, woman, or something in between? Are they gay, lesbian, heterosexual, or bi?
      While the clothing one may choose to wear may be an expression of a person's identity, none of that shit directly defines what parts you have or might have preference to down south.
      The only reason you choose to believe so is because of confirmation bias rather than more empathic critical thinking.
      Hell, I even separated every sentence in their own lines so you can read into a bit better.

    I just don't see how any of these looks could be worn out by most men outside of some glossy pages at your nearest copy of GQ magazine.
    I could seriously picture a middle aged woman with the first outfit when he handed the model the 'bag' and those hideous 'sandals.' Not to mention, their probably ridiculous retail prices. Not a realistic 'five ways to wear' video whatsoever.

    Surprised (somewhat) to see so much hate in the comments. Even if it isn't your style, you can appreciate the point of the video which is to show the versatility of the piece. They're looks to get you thinking about your own personal style - now, if you guys can do better, be my guest. There's a reason he says "if you're feeling brave" and when I read the anti-homosexuality comments I just know I'm dealing with morons. Thank you to the people who made this video. I was actually looking up the director's IG but couldn't find it easily.

    Number 3 is very me, being a 'country gentleman' haha ;D number 4 isn't too bad either, and I could wear number five perhaps with a tie.

      Number 3 is really cool. I also like a lot number 1: not really too casual, but very relaxed.

    Sandals should only be worn when going to the beach or the pool; it isn't very practical and unpleasant in many cases.
