Ideal summer outfit for hot days, according to Mr Porter. The perfect summer shoes would be the Timberland 6". Lightweight and breathable. Don't wear socks. Then go for a pair of bathing shorts. Ideally ones with big writing, that make them look ridiculous. Forget to apply your sunscreen. For top, go for your under tee, an oxford twill shirt, bow tie, leather jacket. Put a sweater on top, add an insulation vest and top it off with a fur coat. For some extra detail, grab your lightweight, breathable cashmere scarf and do not forget your favourite pair of Outdoor Research gloves. Happy holidays, everyone!
Look number 1 left my scratching my head. I can't imagine wearing that many layers in the summer and with shorts. I think any man would be sweating his ass off in that. And then saying that the look would be great to wear to work? Who wears shorts to work? Look number 2 I could see if you were going for a stroll on an overcast morning along the beaches of New England perhaps. It was the least complicated and most likely something a real person could carry off. I appreciate the effort that this takes to create these videos and the fabulous looking models.
A hopsack navy blazer can be worn with shorts - it's not like shorts are exclusive to boiling temperatures. Not saying the stylist has a clue as to what he's doing, of course.
@@marcusthatcher6228 my point is that, even in texas, there are times of the day or times in summer where it is kind of hot. Don't pretend it's sweltering all the time. We get similar temperatures nowadays in England, just without ac.
I only wear shorts to keep cool if it's warm,so shorter ones and only with T-shirts or maybe sweatshirts, and used to do so lots in the summer - but next to never outside of my homestead or its immediate vicinity any more once I passed my mid-30s unless it's either very hot indeed or for sports or physical exercise such as running.
If the temperature in Celsius was at least 5 degrees more than my age,and regardless of age once it got to 22/23/24 it suited me - if I didn't have to shirt + tie it - to go out in my shorts, until I hit my late 30s when I decided I had too many miles on the clock, and started to put on more pounds than I would have liked round the waist, which I've shed since.
Well, I'm not the only complaining about those oufits, of course I'm talking about the top, too many layers for what we would wear a nice pair of shorts. Summer's oufits is supposed to be light to keep us fresh and not burning up under tons of clothes.
I would never, underlined, wear pink shorts BUT, all of the looks here were smashing. Natural, confident, pull together without being fussy. P.S. I wish your app was as funny as these short segments!
Ah yes the pepto bismol short - a summer staple in Dan's hometown of Narnia. Not many people know this but Pan actually got his "no shirt or pants with a wool scarf look" from Dan.
I also have to ask, why all the layers? 3 or 4 layers for the summer is rediculous, unless of course the climate suits...Scandanavia? And why bother waering a striped shirt under another striped shirt when the inner shirt is completely covered? I think some of the color combinations were great, but for the most part I find these choices only feasible in a chilly climate or in an air-conditioned setting, not on warm summer days or nights.
i enjoy watching these even though i personally wouldnt try half of those styles.. i dont really do layering. Theres just too much going on.. im much more simpler.
It's funny because an English/British summer is around the same temperature as an Aussie winter XD except it's a lot colder to us because we're used to the heat.
The outfits seem incomplete. Perhaps because the top layers are geared towards cooler seasons as opposed to the reason as to why one would wear shorts? I can envision them being decent choices if I extend those shorts into pants. Suddenly, these looks seem more complete. Don't throw layers on someone with shorts or pants for that matter just for the sake of trying to create a look. Sometimes simplicity is a much better path, sartorially speaking.
By PRACTICAL I assume you meant the summer where you live (North Pole?) right? Not going to work in tropical countries or places where summer is around 38 to 40 degrees C lol. I like the style though. I will use them as suggestions for my fall and winter seasons where I live.
campus update: lose the cardigan and the tie sunday brunch: lose the cardigan garden party: swap the shorts for trousers (shorts don't looks right with the jacket imo) out & about: perfect (except i personally wouldn't wear new balance trainers - maybe some creative recreation low-tops or velvet tassel loafers for a smarter look) summer showers: good except shorts aren't the right option if you're preparing for showers not knocking the looks by any stretch, just saying what i'd personally try
The mult-layer top looks like we're going to x-country ski...i simply wonder if anyone would dress like that during hot summer--or should i ask ambulance for a ride to the party? :)
why do so many people like this stuff? this isn't spring or summer fashion.. this is crazy looks people wear on the runway.. you were t shirts, light polos or light casual button downs with twill or chino shorts. loafers or flip flops or slips on.. not a pair of brogues..
You start off by saying shorts or for summer but the first thing you put on the model is a sweater over a shirt plus a jacket. Anyone would be dripping in sweat 3 minutes after being outside in that outfit is not practical. Plus, the tie with shorts?? They don't even attempt that in GQ. The second outfit again is, a heavy denim shirt, over a t-shirt, plus a thick sweater - guys, that only works in the summer in Alaska or Norway
Calm down guys....this is fashion! Waering clothes can be a kind of expressing yourself. They want to show us "what's possible". It's in the most cases never 100% adaptable to real life conditions.
The very first video i saw from you, i was pretty impressed. Then as i started going through the others in this series I realized that you do the same thing over and over again. Talking smack about the colour variations when they are pretty subtle in all honesty. Every look includes a cardigen/sweater with a blazer/jacket layered on top. Please add some genuine variation.
From all this series of how to wear. This video to me was nonsense. I live in Scandinavia where summers are cold and even so I have to say that's too much layering for summer weather
Where I'm from (Bermuda) we will wear knee socks, loafers, shorts a button up and a blazer, often time a light linen blend. Looking at this video made me cringe and sweat
Look 1 & 2: Impossible, unless the temps are always in the high 60s, low 70s. Look 3: Perhaps, but why hide the madras shirt? Look 4: Why layer a striped shirt with another striped shirt, if you can only see the top shirt? Look 5: No thanks.
These outfits are way too layered, even for a British summer! I'm English and I would sweat to death if I wore a denim shirt let alone with a cardigan and jacket
This just solidified my position of not wearing shorts AT ALL unless you have a lightweight short sleeve top. Anything with long sleeves (especially layer upon layer of unnecessary extras) with shorts just looks disgusting to me. Hate the look
No matter how stylish I want to be,these five looks will never work for me cause where I live which is Turin Italy and Shandong China, summer gets hot, wearing that will kill me when I’m outside......
Just go italian style. shorts + shirt (unbottone it by 3) + mocassini (sockless). You'll be stylish and fresh. not having to die after 1 hour in the sun. In the evening, for a more casual look, ditch the shorts, go with a pair of trousers + shirt + mocassini + blazer (if it gets chilly). BTW. Never wear a blazer with shorts. thats STRAIGHT up UGLY.
Does this guy actually know summer? Three of the five looks have 3x hefty upper layers and two looks have 2x upper layers. There's no way 3x layers of quite substantial garments would be comfortable or practical in most summer weather.
Perfect for places where it is summer down at your knees and winter up by your shoulders.
oh, yeah I love that.
hahahahahaahahahhahaah,i died ahhahahahhahahaha
Mike MakesRight omg so true hahaha
That’s what I was thinking. Who layers tops while wearing shorts? That’s just absurd.
Exactly. This is ridiculous.

Best comment.
This dude is trying to kill Mr.Porter customers with heat stroke so they can't return anything lmao.
i'll die laughing with ur comment
summer in Siberia

Mr. Porter, you do know that the summer gets hot, right? Why are you putting jackets and cardigans on your model if this is summer wear?
Yeah man, you're right I was thinking the same, too much clothing at the top.
For the evening
A hopsack navy blazer can be worn with shorts - it's not like shorts are exclusive to boiling temperatures. Not saying the stylist has a clue as to what he's doing, of course.
@@JR-hi9bu if you want to wear *that* much clothing in the summer be my guest. In Texas you'd sweat your ass off.

Seriously who would wear this many layers in summer while wearing shorts??

Summer in the Philippines with that outfit.
Mr. Sun hi.
why would you put a cardigan over a jean jacket?!?
3 layers in summer?! Y not? Great idea....
Well, I'm not the only complaining about those oufits, of course I'm talking about the top, too many layers for what we would wear a nice pair of shorts. Summer's oufits is supposed to be light to keep us fresh and not burning up under tons of clothes.
In which weather is it acceptable to wear 3 layers of clothing on top and then shorts on the bottom?
LA / Miami / NY
They all look good, but like everyone is saying, if its so cold that you have to wear a jacket or sweater, then you wouldn't be wearing shorts.
I would never, underlined, wear pink shorts BUT, all of the looks here were smashing. Natural, confident, pull together without being fussy.

Do you know what is summer? 3 layers of tops? OMG.
I love they choice of pink! Very creative! Thank you for sharing. 🙏✨

I wouldn't even wear this many layers on some winter days!
When its 35 degrees outside, shorts and singlet, thats all you can wear.
Found my new favourite channel. Subscribed!

I live in Scandinavia and if I needed that much layering I would just put on pants
LOL...well said :-)
+Thomas Lucia most of them would be fine if they took off a layer
i enjoy watching these even though i personally wouldnt try half of those styles.. i dont really do layering. Theres just too much going on.. im much more simpler.
like the navy boat shoes!
Five ways to wear denim and gucci horsebit loafers!! Nice videos
It's funny because an English/British summer is around the same temperature as an Aussie winter XD except it's a lot colder to us because we're used to the heat.
Even the model looks confused by these outfits...
Very cool ideas, maybe a bit too much for my kind of summer but liking the shorts.
So many layers. Are we talking about winter or spring?
Out & About and Garden Party are put together the best, IMO. The others have way too much layering for shorts.
I didn't know how to put on shorts before, this has really helped!!!
this video is the biggest fail
Whats the name of the shoes in the second outfit???
Don't forget this is a British summer... so basically winter. Don't get too mad about the layers lol.
The outfits seem incomplete. Perhaps because the top layers are geared towards cooler seasons as opposed to the reason as to why one would wear shorts? I can envision them being decent choices if I extend those shorts into pants. Suddenly, these looks seem more complete.

To make ch layer for summer... I like “Aout & About”.

considering his accent, i gather he is from London. it doesn't get extremely warm in the UK, let alone London so i understand the layers
Wow. Those shorts are too loose and too long. A nice pair of tailored shorts that reach above the knee would look a lot cleaner.
classy as always
Hi, Mr, porter.. did you got some style for skinny guy like me :D Its hard to choose a good style :D
Don't you see how skinny models are? I'm sure they aren't any buffer than you are

News flash: you don’t always have to wear a million layers when you’re wearing a pair of pink shorts
Where in the world is the season of "summer" such that you can wear a chunky knit cardigan?
I like the looks....the only thing wrong with it are the shorts
Lol pretty funny given it's meant to be about the shorts. Seems this stylist has failed his brief!
The fact that you suggested the last look for a summer wedding really pissed me off.
Short and shirt
DONE
Most difficult would be finding the right shoes
Not too dressy but still stylish
Must be a cool summer in Britain
They are probably dressing for English summers, where the average maximum is like 20 degrees Celsius/ 68-70 Fahrenheit
Ninety percent of the time he layers way to much!!he should always lose the final layer
Here in Brazil impossible!! But I like the combinations
The mult-layer top looks like we're going to x-country ski...i simply wonder if anyone would dress like that during hot summer--or should i ask ambulance for a ride to the party? :)
umm summer showers you can't see the thing on the bottom, what's the point of having it
The garden party one probably needs an off white fedora hat
Song please?
What about other color shorts
why do so many people like this stuff? this isn't spring or summer fashion.. this is crazy looks people wear on the runway.. you were t shirts, light polos or light casual button downs with twill or chino shorts. loafers or flip flops or slips on.. not a pair of brogues..

who the hell wear's so many layers in summer !! its damn hot !!!
Exactly I was laughing the whole time 😂
Not bad.. But i think i kinda liked what the stylist was wearing more lol.. Simple.. Chic.. Elegant

Five Ways To Wear: Shorts - YES Five Ways To Wear: Shorts in Summer - NO
LOL too much layers for summer , id rather wear a white shirt ,denim jacket , short and shoes !
I'm confused. If it's warm enough to wear shorts, why would you dress like it's snowing above your waste?

three layers in summer? let's be real
look, if it's hot enough to wear shorts it's not cold enough to wear sweaters. and here I thought you were supposed to be the style experts.
british summers aren't that cold. If they were why put on shorts if you need to go with cardigans :)
These pieces are perfect for UK summer not suitable for USA summer.
Way to many layers... Especially with the shorts!!
Ccthe blue cardigan would of went better with the pink short
yeah lets wear shorts because its summer but put 2 layers of long sleeve shirts
Look 1 & 2: Impossible, unless the temps are always in the high 60s, low 70s.
Look 3: Perhaps, but why hide the madras shirt?
Look 4: Why layer a striped shirt with another striped shirt, if you can only see the top shirt?

Who wears three layers in summer?
When your carry on is full and you tryna smuggle more clothes in the plane
Let me guess, the next piece is also from JCrew. kinda obvious.
These are some nice outfits! But wearing shoes without socks just seems unsanitary to me :/
I don't know anyone who would wear a denim jacket and sweater during the summer.....even at night. These looks are too busy!
look I love the style but it doesn’t really make sense it’s more for like modeling but summer i’ll boil
WAY TOO MANY LAYERS MR. PORTER.
come on , this is summer, no layering

yes
God, no. I personally prefer the kind of Björn Borg-type shorts.
No one dresses like that in england or anywhere its all combinations by this guy and he himself wouldn't dress this way
