Rebuilding my rustfree 2006 GMC Sierra with parts from across the country

  • I think I need some more practice taking this truck apart. Let's get it apart so we can paint it and get it back together for what I hope is the last time. Then we can move onto fixing what the factory did wrong and what the last someone didn't get right. In case you were wondering, I hate headliners!

To be honest,if I have a window out of the car I'll clean it,even where it doesn't show. But that's just because I'm anal about that kind of thing. Also why it takes me forever to put stuff back together.

I rebuilt a completely flooded out Suburban. It was a salt water flood and they said it probably got up to the dash. I found water damage under the headliner! I had to replace all the wiring, every switch, motor, regulator, dash, steering column, engine, and fuse box. What a long tiring job. Later I had to rebuild the rear end and replace the front bearing packs. Too much work!!! I have seen all of these areas before multiple times. I had to buy a rollover suburban body to get all the parts I needed. I really appreciate how much work this is!

8:50 "remember to put your doors as far away as possible"....when I worked construction one a hole would park his vehicle as far away as possible. I couldn't figure out why....then it dawned on me one day when the boss told him to cut up some sheathing for a house with his circular saw. He took off his tool belt and went for a 15 minutes hike to get his saw. Made the cuts, then 15 minutes back to put his saw back in his vehicle. Then an hour later? needed it again, so off he went. He'd do anything to avoid work. For eg: we'd have our 15 min break or lunch and when it was time to get back to work THAT'S when he left to use the portapotty.....anything to get out of work.

Rebuilding my 07 LBZ, managed to find a rust free box in a farmers field a week ago. Had 4 inches of leaf litter and mud in the box sides, but no rust. Trying to get that heat shield off the bottom before painting and those T25s won't budge, can't even find replacements since they aren't listed on the box diagrams. Hopefully it will be worth all the trouble.

So she ended up with a pair of footprints right above the passenger seat. When her Dad saw them I’m not sure if he really bought her excuse.

If you're just doing a flat headliner, you can use regular contact cement from the hardware store, brush it on thick, roll your material out and press it down, then roll it back, let it tack up, and then roll it out again.
I did panels for my van that way. You just do it in sections nice and easy and it's held up fine so far.

Very smooth on the headliner... Very smooth. I like that.
I did one of those... You need to have a "pre headliner team meeting", if someone is going to help you.... Make sure they are doing EXACTLY what you expect them to do.... I kinda ended up doing the whole thing at once.... Don't ask. You are smarter to go half & half.... Mine kinda worked out fine, but there was 5 times as much stress, and you don't need that in your life..... Seriously, you don't.... Heh heh heh!
