Today we will get one of my previous rebuilds back to flip again. It has some issues the owner didn't want to fix since the car became an extra car. The price was right so I figured I would pick it up and see if I could make some money. Before I could sell it, a gnome wrecked it so that put a little damper on the flip. Let's see if I can make some money or end up losing some money..... or both.

That's the true mark of an honorable man. I worked closed with a guy on the construction team. He was born again. Always preaching goodness and purity. So a guy on another team had HORRIBLE luck with vehicles. He'd bought an older Chev pickup for $3500 and was in a small town about 2 hrs away, died on the side of a road. Had it towed to a local garage, they said new fuel pump, including dropping the tank, $1800. F it......
Got to work on the monday, told us about his harrowing weekend and he couldn't put $1800 into is. The holy roller offered him $1000.00 for it. He took it.
FF to the next weekend, the holy roller goes to the town with a secondary fuel pump to get it home. Checks the fuses? It's the fuel pump relay. $6.00 fix. Drove it home.
Told the owner what it was, and giggled as the owner basically weeped.
We were off to a site on our own and I said to him: you know you preach goodness and charity and all that. If you truly were a "holy" person, you would have given him the title and $500 back and kept $500 for your time. Knowing the trouble he's had with vehicles. It's not like he's a total stranger, we worked with him 3 weeks out of every month. He said "yeah right, would YOU have done that"? Me: HELL yeah...in a heart beat. I wouldn't even hesitate. In fact, I did the same thing. A neighbour gave me a lawnmower that wouldn't run. I checked it out, replaced the membrane in the carb (common problem) for $4.00. I walked over and gave him $50"
Did he? nope. Lost all kinds of respect for him after that. From then on whenever he started on his holy crap I'd remind him of what a hypocrite he was.

It sure helps when you have the experience to know what the likely faults are and to be able to diagnose them to confirm your suspicions. It turned out to be a win-win situation with the profit you made and no doubt the previous owner would have been very happy with the $1k you gave him. All the best from Queensland Australia.

Ha! True story. Back in like 1995, I worked at a Ford dealer. One of the employees drove a 1988 Ford EXP. It broke down while driving, and was billowing white smoke out the back while he drove it. Tow truck driver (yes, seriously) told him it HAD to be a bad head gasket. So, the kid proceeded to just randomly take out bolts in attempt to change it. (He had never done any engine work before, he was a Detail tech) Got in over his head, and sold the car to me for $50. I towed it home, and bought the head gasket. He had pulled all the head bolts, without removing anything other than the valve/cam cover. Idiot. Anyway, I replaced the head gasket, and stretch to fit bolts. Got it running and......it billowed white smoke out the back when I drove it. Great, cracked head or block I thought. Got it home and investigated to find that there was a pinhole in a transmission line, that was spraying fluid on the exhaust manifold's underside. Spliced a patch in it, and viola! Fixed! LOL. Drove that car for 4 years, gave it to my wife at the time, she drove it for 2 more years. Kid was pissed....:)

Very nice work Scott! I bet the previous owner was floored by you sharing the profits with him. I'm sure the new owner is thrilled as well with their nice purchase.

Loved these cars. Drove the shit out of my mothers 96 Gt back in high school days. Seen one years ago with the tags rearranged to Grand ma. It is was true to the driver.

Love the reasoning behind the car pricing. Wish I had the same replies when I sold my 89 Corvette. Interested people wanted a 18,000 mile super clean car for $5000. Biggest reason was a low mile car would have multiple problems due to the low miles.

You're a solid guy Scott. I wish all the car experts had your moral compass. At today's prices, $2500 was a bargain for that car no matter what anyone says. I love to see the old stuff keep running.

Bought mine for 2k really been using it for 4 years now I’ve had no major issues I had to replace the e brake in the centre console there and couple other little things but you expect that with age really. I just don’t understand what people end up doing to these cars they are pretty reliable but I see so many of them just beat to hell. No wonder people complain about them maybe it’s the way they been looked after not the actual car.

I got rid of the stupid fitting on my car and just put the hose on the aluminum nipple and a hose clamp. The plastic nipple so redundant and not even needed. I made a video years ago on how to check the trans fluid on these cars.

This brought back many memories, I was a lightline tech back during the '90s thru 2002 at a Pontiac dealership here in OKC. Been there and done this many times, down side, had to do it for warranty pay. Customer pay jobs were a little rare. Most repairs were customer caused but the dealership was worried about CSI and did many repairs under warranty.

Keep up the great work and videos. You are so kind, giving the money to the owner was something you didn't have to do but you did it. Goes to show how much you think about the future and keeping a customer for life. I love how you jab at the haters and show proof of your work making people happy. Keep going and doing what is right and you will get everything you ever desired.
