In 72 i had one...what a beast! Many times I tired of the kick start....today I'd be hospitalized with a heart attack doing what i did in 72. The Army got me in June 72, and my brothers inherited the Red beast. Hope you have luck!

I think that the engineers who actually designed some of these awful kickstarters should have to use the dang things!! Their next designs might be a little different!

From the mag side it looks like the engine is a 71 (at least)/5 speed. the fiberglass looks like earlier model fiberglass. I had a 1971 Stiletto 5 speed. Cleaned, matched and polished all the ports went to a 34mm Mikuni and that bike ran fast and hard!! Great racer!! Motocrossed it desert raced ir, put it in a Fast Track flat track racing frame and raced it!! She was fast and very durable!

You are right! Glass is all wrong. Bike is a 5 speed

I'd be interested in how that return spring for the shifter is set up. My '72 has the same problem and I don't want to split the cases as it's just a good woods bike for me.

Shoot me an email and I'll forward some pictures of that set up.

there was Jawa with a sidecar that would only run for certain people, boss rode it around in front of buyers, they went inside negotiated and purchased, came outside to ride around and load up, wouldn't start, spent next couple hours trying everything to get started, cancelled deal, next day fired right up, ran fine, later in day, restarted ran fine, few weeks later, sold it again, to some different folks, same thing, wouldn't start, cancelled deal, those people left and it started and ran fine, spent 40hrs, checking testing everything, let different people at dealership start and ride around for 30 minutes, pass seems OK, 3rd time, sold again, ran and shut off, it thought about them and decided nope wouldn't restart, next day ran fine, John took it to auction and sold it no reserve, have just under 50 years with dealership and vintage experience, is the only motorcycle I've ever seen that defied running for some people but ran fine for others

I’ll take my 72 Bultaco Pursang any day.

Yeah I agree, but I don't know why these should be this way. They are the same on paper but the Bul is a better bike.

@@bullpencycles I’m 75yo now and willl need a knee replacement soon. May have to sell the Bultaco. It won best race bike at a show in 2017. Lots of NOS parts: butted spokes, fiberglass fenders . Has all the original Bultaco marked bolts (re-plated). Probably one of the nicest around. Any idea what it might be worth?
