To hammer that first point home, I'm the kind of guy who really likes Ghost of Tsushima. Yet, always found it stale to just use the required stance on a certain enemy type. I then stumble upon this player who goes by AAbiola, who makes absolutely killer combo videos, and I thought, "Hey, I really wanna play like that." Needless to say, I'm far from perfect, but hopefully that little bit makes sense.
If the devs didn't intend for people to experiment with how the combat flows, they wouldn't have made it possible to do that. The fact you can find new ways to take down enemies in the game is by design, the devs wanted people to experiment and see how many ways they could kick the enemies teeth in. What I'm trying to say here is his argument is self defeating because it falls apart the moment you apply the same standard in the opposite direction.

In the arkham games there is literally dodging holding the dodge button while simultaneously holding a direction on the analog, some enemies in that game can't be dodged by just pressing the button. Spider man combat only gets harder because of damage you take, the enemies are the same difficulty, so no the skill cap is not higher on spider man for the simple fact in the arkham games there is more you have to pay attention to

Arkham Knight objectviely is much harder than the insominiac spiderman games. The ONLY time I ever somewhat struggled in playthroughs on Spiderman based combat was when I was surrounded by legit 100s of brutes in Ultimate, but still barely broke a sweat due to healing. To this day, the militia in Arkham Knight got me struggling. BIG difference
Neither have difficult combat systems and neither is objectively more difficult than the other. But SMPS4 and SM2 OBJECTIVELY have more enemy variety and variety in terms of what u can do in combat.

HOWEVER, in Arkham Knight the variety of enemies required gadgets to be used in much quicker and flashier scenarios than the Insomniac Games. U can get away without using gadgets other than your classic web shooters for a lot of missions in SM2 and SMPS4. But by the end of Arkham Knight, learning button combinations to instantaneously use different gadgets in Batman's arsenal is the BARE minimum, because if not you objectviely cannot beat them normally. Reminder, this isn't even mentioning the harder gamemodes for Arkham Knight. The variation in combat required to beat the variety of Spidey villians goes down to simple variations in base level combat. Batman actually requires you to utilise everything you have learnt.

If you take the gadgets out it’s just Spider-Man swing around punching the bad guys. So base game yes it’s intended to be played a certain way just like any game. Then you add other things tk make the experience better. For example basketball you can do tricks n dunk instead of just dribbling n shooting. The rest of the things are added to the base game tk make it fun n to add creativity
He probably only likes Dial-A-Combo fighting games which I tend drop because being allowed to be creative is the most rewarding part of games being forcefully stuck on a certain pathway is shallow

I think it's an overcorrection to say that all games are baseline boring without player engagement. What locks you in from the start is playing as intended 8/10 times.
