Tikka T3X CTR: 1/2 MOA out of a Factory Rifle?! ( New Long Range Build )

  • First look at the Tikka T3X CTR rifle in 308.
On a mission to build my ideal long range setup, I dropped the Tikka CTR in a KRG Whiskey chassis and I'm loving this thing!
In this vid, I go over my initial impressions of the setup, the accuracy we saw, and the cost of the build.
    Shes a Sub-Moa beast.

The word you're looking for is not "budget" it's pure "Value" this is fantastic value for the accuracy and shooting capability you'll need. Most people will not out shoot this weapon.

Wow. What a deal for that tikka second hand. I got my 6.5cm Ctr standard configuration with adjustable cheek riser for $2800. We get fleeced in aus for rifles..

I have a Tikka CTR Stainless 24" in 6.5 Creedmoor, and it averages under 0.5 MOA with every bullet I've tried in it. Literally the only modifications I've made are installed an EC Tuner Brake and a Mountain Tactical spring to lower the trigger pull weight to 1.5 lbs (probably not necessary). I have an Atlas bipod on mine. They are truly superb rifles.

I enjoy your content because you show everyone what can be done with a moderate cost barreled action and a decent chassis with a decent scope. We all don't have $5-8k or more to spend on a custom rifle and Niteforce scope like some of the guys on certain channels so I appreciate your content. I myself have a Howa 1500 .308 in an MDT XRS chassis and love the combo. Do I wish I had a Manners TCS chassis/stock and a GA Precision barreled action? Heck yeah but most of us have to stick within a budget. So thank you again in showing what the average Joe can afford and how well it shoots. Also glad you use a .308 Win to show what it can do at distance.

Yeah man. I don’t have that kind of cash to drop either. Most don’t. And howas can get it done. Great rifles. I think 308 still has a place, especially for training and especially in our economy now.

Oh shit, just saw this. Thanks man! I learned a lot from listening to you and Caylen. Watching you crush it with the Tikka finally sold me on one instead of a custom action. Just way too smooth.

On my second Tikka T3x. First one purchased a few years ago in 7mm-08. Ammo shortage caused me to trade it in for a 308 of the same rifle. Love Tikka.

Got the same mounts, have the same Gun it’s a Fabulous Gun! Once sighted in…WOW! I need to add muzzle break…. I’m female and older and could shoot this all day long. Once sighted in 3 shots with 2 shots with 1” and bullseye 3rd! ACCURATE Gun, I’m new to shooting, just an FYI. You don’t have to be a “Pro” to shoot this Gun in in 6.5, can’t say enough good things about it. Thanks for the video! Going to push her out to greater distance next time. Ultimately a Great Gun for the money.

My 308 is a Howa. Mine is in a GRS Bifrost. McGowen and Carbon six will do shouldered prefits for Howa builds. Outside of those I don't know any other barrel maker that does.
I am about to order a barrel for my Howa 223. If I didn't already have these Howa recievers, I would not hesitate to run a Tikka.

Know how I know your in the upper midwest
You went to scheels and called it shields :p
Best route is spend around 1500 for the rifle and 1500 for the scope... you won't be disappointed in a "budget" set up... you can transfer either side being scope or rifle into a more custom set up to start off with and not hold yourself back

If a smooth action is your basis on buying a rifle, I kinda feel sorry for you. Tikkas are ok for what they are, a factory rifle at the end of the day. They still don't compare to a custom in any way, shape, or form...
You know what else has a smooth action, the 60 year old Rem 700 and after market support is endless, and many custom actions still copy them to this day, I wonder why that is. You Tikka guys are something else sometimes I swear 😂😅
And you don't need prefits or nuts for a Howa. Just buy a blank like everyone else, and take it your smith and have him chamber and install it.
My Vanguard (basically a Howa 1500) has a 28" BRUX with a McMillan A5 and it shoots 1/4-3/8 MOA easy at 100 yards, and 4-5" all day at 1K laying prone with a bipod with 108g ELDMs.

Just out of curiosity, why did you go with 308 over 6.5 ? I'm asking because I'm trying to decide for my CTR purchase knowing that 80% of the time it'll be used on paper and 20% for hunting

    • @ADudeAndSomeGuns
      @ADudeAndSomeGuns  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Because I was planning on rebarreling it in 6.5 so then I would have 2 barrels for 2 of the most popular rounds out there. I would use 308 to train with. 6.5CM or 6CM to compete with.
