@@alanmeyers3957to be fair over simplifying a basic probe position is kinda boring. I just tuned in looking at the build. Military style instruction is always about overconfidently stating the most obvious which is designed to get booters to pay attention and convince them you’re all knowing.

Hol.ly $h!t. No one in my 36 years on this earth has ever said I can use my clavicle. I have a shoulder reconstruction surgery, which prevents me from using the pocket of my shoulder. And EVERYONE tells me to use it and not my clavicle. Ugh, shooting comfortable for now on, thank you
Your videos are making me want to start learning precision shooting. Im not a new rifle shooter, I spent 5 years in the Marine Corps, but I would say I’m pretty much brand new when it comes to precision. That being said, would you recommend .308 or 6.5 for my first precision rifle?
Select a .308. I’m suiting up my flame suit and preparing to get roasted, but this is my advice to all my new clients at my PR matches here at Garrison Petawawa (home of the Warriors), Ontario.
* if you are not handloading, match ammo is straightforward to source and buy; 6.5 CM was not always easy (It’s Sep 2020, now)
* Yes the 6.5CM is a wind cheater, and a gravity defying round. Learn your comeups and wind calls; much reference material for the 308 out there.
* Develop your talent, spend money on ammo and match fees. One cannot ever buy skill or experience, nor bolt on talent on your PR rig
* Learn to reload, the .308 Winnie is easy to learn how to reload and very forgiving with powder recipes
* Barrel life: you can easily obtain 5000 rounds to almost 10K rounds through your factory barrel
Once you need to rebarrel, select any one of the super efficient 6mm or 6.5mm technologies. You will have earned your ‘spurs’ to quote Retired Gen Mad Dog Mattis of the USMC.
And with your extensive background using the .308, you will be in a position to ‘mentor’ other new shooters. “We rise in lifting others.” I stole that quote. It ain’t mine. Hahahahaha
Now get out and shoot. Try your best not to focus on the hardware. Develop that software between your ears.

I had the same experience as you, 5 years of Kentucky windage with a M4 and RCO I thought I was a pretty good shooter. Got into precision shooting, and its a humbling experience. I started with 6.5CM, and with the fundamentals I learned in the Marine Corps was getting impacts over 1000 Yards first time out. I was using a Ruger Precision which I think is the best bang for your buck to start long range shooting. Current Ammo and Firearm prices are challenging, but I honestly have had more fun shooting doing PRS than any other type of shooting I have done. Hope you get out there and experience it!
Phil when in the checklist would you 1. Adjust parallax and 2. Close the chamber?
Hi, if you shoot with bipod do you pull the stock rearward toward the shoulder pocket with shooting hand or do you charge the bipod pushing with the toes?thanks
Thank you so much for that breakdown. I started pulling the rifle into my shoulder before watching this and felt it was unnecessary muscle tension on the rifle.
I thought just loading the bipod was enough but my face kept getting kicked off of the rifle during recoil and I'd lose my target and couldn't spot my misses. Pulling the rifle in a little definitely helps. Thanks!
Gotta love the Marines, they would issue a 20 step process on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich if they could. Always breaking everything down beyond necessity.
Great build though, that action sounded smooth as butter, but $500+ on bipod rig though? Really?
I find it impossible to square my shoulders and elbows at the same time. Shoulders square, supporting hand elbow must go forward, to avoid the shoulder going up while I'm gripping the rear bag.
I'm 196cm tall, perhaps my physique is not suitable for the fully squared position?
I have learned over my years of hunting and sport shooting...(not competitive) When and instructor goes off and a tangent...that's because he believes in the importance of "Tha't'" particular area of focus. Philip, even when doing a video a 12min video. Don't apologize. You are giving us insight into shooting live ammunition. For me, I take your words to heart. I have a 14y/o daughter with a true aptitude for Archery and Rifle shooting...I'm trying to teach her in the best way not to make the mistakes I made before learning and taking the shot. I've watched this check-list video multiple times...You tangent made perfect sense to me. I will pass this down.

After 45 years of shooting, I developed MY dialogue between Spotter and shooter. IDTarget, Range, winds, call shot, follow through. Hey works for me.

What chassis is that. I shoot my AR10 way more than my bolt gun because its more comfortable than my bolt action. I'm looking for a chassis the solve that issue.

Yes, but: In many cases the target will not be findable, and it will require substantial changes in the position. Then all you said goes out the window.

Anyone use that overmolded cheek rest that he has on his chassis? Is it worth the upgrade? I’ve heard some people say it pulls at your face when the gun fires so I’m nervous about getting one.
Jeff C that’s all I have on all my KRG’s. I love them. Definitely worth the upgrade IMPO. So comfortable over the standard one.
