  • The Rear Brake Pads Are Well Worn, so its time to retract those calipers.
    The rear handbrake on the Volvo is electronic so I will need to either manually remove the motors, or use the Diagnostic tool to wind them back.

    I replaced the rear brakes yesterday on our 2020 XC40. I didn't have a scan tool so manually removed and wound in the motors. It was a simple job. Your video was very helpful, thank you.

      What do you mean ? Manually removed and wound in the motors what did you use please ?

    • @alastairwinner

      You remove the motor from the caliper using a hex (can’t remember the size, sorry). There are two bolts. You then use same hex to wind in the motor. It’s pretty obvious where it is. I turned the motor clockwise until it stopped. You still need to use the compression tool as shown in the video to get the caliper fully open to fit over the new pads. Hope this helps.

    I am doing my breaks soon. Makes me laugh the instructions inside the genuine Volvo pads says take motor off and retract piston manually!! I done it with my old XC60 and it was quicker. Great videos very in depth and easy for people to follow

    Volvo wanted about £550 to do the rear discs and pads on my xc60, discs were ok and in the end I supplied the pads and they fitted them for free as I’d not long bought the car. Mine were grinding on the metal. I did the front pads myself.

      It is strange how there are no wear indicators fitted to these models, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

    In the boot of the car you will find a special tool made of plastic shaped like a pair of tweezers these are for pulling the plastic covers off the wheel studs so they don't get marked when using pliers.

      Where? That’s news to me I did it will a screw driver and a cloth to protect the wheels.

    Thanks for another great video. Silly question time: So Passenger side of car is Right hand wind back tool and Drivers side is left hand. ?

    • @aaanton11
      @aaanton11  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they are both right hand, but I used the left hand just to get the piston spinning without putting any pressure on it as it was so stiff. then switched to the right hand tool which helped push it in whilst spinning it. handy to have both tools, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

    Hi Ant. Thanks for posting. After using the scan tool to enable service mode, I thought piston could be pushed in using water pump pliers. Is it really necessary to wind piston in? Cheers

    Silly question...do you need different brake pads for electric hand brake cars or are they the same? On some websites they indicate specific rear brake pads. Thanks

    • @aaanton11
      @aaanton11  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Each car will have a specific brake pad, for best results use a company that asks for the vehicle registration, Thanks for the great comments👍🏻👍🏻🛠

    When your winding in the piston it looks hard work as by the sound of it the motor is turning too?
    Would it wind back easier if you removed the motor???

    You can motor the electric unit with a 9v battery, then just push in the piston.

    Chyba jednak cos nie pykło przy serwisowym wkreceniu tłoczków. Wcale nie jest potrzebne urzadzenie do wkrecania tłoczka. Wystarczyło odkrecic plastikową obudowe elektrycznego recznego( ta za zaciskiem 2 śruby imbus) W zacisku od tamtej strony wkłada sie imbus i kreci do końca. Tłoczek bez wiekszego wysiłku sam wchodzi do środka.
