I love random topics like this. I was a film major so any kind of analysis like this is fun. The first movie is basically my great grandmother’s story, married to an alcoholic and kept having kids, 16 total. He was so terrible she actually divorced him in the 40s or 50s when divorce was pretty rare. So I feel like the movie would shed light on how she survived. I haven’t thought about Ohio much since 2004. The ex who was the most significant part of my life emotionally was from Ohio. He had a bit of a drawl. He lived off his brother in NY because he was used to Columbus rents.

Themes of toxic masculinity, aimlessness, hope & hopelessness. Super touching watch and very down to earth.

This is a rehash of a comment I made on one of the Dance in Ohio promo videos, but one sad thing about the musical is that their cast is all super verbal and for the most part social. My special interest is Broadway and I have autism, but not at a level where I can functionally be on stage so the whole ordeal honestly just made me feel like shit haha. Wish we got more opportunities
As an Ohio resident, I can confirm that 1950s domestic abuse, danny davito, gay sex, autism, and teenagers rapping in a hotel room are all perfect encapsulations of the Ohio experience (at least the last three).
I saw the closing performance on Broadway of the musical version of How to Dance in Ohio. One of the most moving experiences I’ve had and the energy in that audience was completely unmatched by anything I’ve experienced.
Sounds like you got some really good stuff out of this. Isn't it fun to take off on a niche concept and find something you never would have if you hadn't taken that first silly step? Thanks for teaching me about these things, I'm going to try to find where I can watch the Dancing in Ohio musical. Maybe I'll watch it with my mother-in-law who helps me care for my autistic son. I am so happy you watched this. Not only is it a fantastic documentary, it is a groundbreaking Broadway Musical!
Thanks for reppin' my home state. It's not much but it's home.
Ohio has Skyline Chili which means you’re winning.
AS AN OHIOAN I AM IN SHOCK! I love you for this Ohio shout out!!! I love being from Ohio!
O-H-I-O
Same, I have no idea why people joke about it having nothing when it’s a pretty historical state.
I grew up passing the Longaberger basket as a landmark… never thought about how weird it was until some friends visited OH. It is pretty wild here.
I was so sad when I realized I wouldn't get into NYC to see "How to Dance In Ohio," becasue it closed so quickly. I haven't seen the documentary, so now I want to watch that, at least.
Finally some proper Ohio representation
this was a beautiful video thank you for giving my friends our next 5 movie nights
I was already subscribed, but after this video I am truly a fan of this channel.
God Keith David is so good
I knew "The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio" would be here.
And all Ohio viewers are now more happy than a dog with a big stea.
1. I own a Lelo device. it's great.
2. I thought there'd be more movies with OHIO in the title but was I ever wrong.
That story about your Marching Band is CLASSIC! No one outside of band understands how weird and normal and stupid we are like everyone else
That edit of twerking thanos to leo pointing had me in stitches
Thanos twerking was Evasive's doing, Leo pointing was my doing ☺
Sounds like you got some really good stuff out of this. Isn't it fun to take off on a niche concept and find something you never would have if you hadn't taken that first silly step? Thanks for teaching me about these things, I'm going to try to find where I can watch the Dancing in Ohio musical. Maybe I'll watch it with my mother-in-law who helps me care for my autistic son. This has all been really heartwarming, thank you. : )
if you asked me if i had seen the first movie, i would have said no, but watching this, i realized i absolutely have?? wtf
I went thru the same realization! Lol
11:17 i believe the younger brother is the actor that plays Jake Rosati from the TV show “Awkward”
I know nothing about ohoi. And I wish I knew less.
honestly when you said the brother and his best friend in "beautiful ohio" had a secret language, first thing i thought was "they're fucking"
"Clowns not using their Pennys-wise
Philly cheesestake with the extra fries" does is for me.
Why does that ohio walnut movie feel like a behind the scenes for the glimpse of us music video.
11:36 is that hale appleman?! and he plays a character named eliott?? and he's gay?! and the older brother was also in the magicians??! do we think that they stayed in contact in between those 2 projects or was it more of a "hey we did a movie together 8 years ago!" when they had their one scene together in the magicians.
Light of Day starred Pat Bennetar and Michael J Fox and was set in Cleveland. There’s some music but it wasn’t a musical or a rock docu. Just a rock movie from the late 80s. I remember it being pretty decent.
A good, but hard to find movie today. It was released on VHS after its theatrical run, but it never was released to DVD. Don't know offhand if it's on any of the streaming platforms.
