Love the saw and build keep up the great videos sounds like the saw is running lean it should four stroke when take the load off of it looks great I want to get one of those clone saws
Awesome to see another saw in the fleet 💯👍. Good description and review before hitting the wood pile. Thanks for having us out and great that the saw worked well on the first day! Andrew from NB :)
I think you did a great job building that saw. It was really eating through that wood with no problems. It seems like it will be a great saw even if you need to replace an oil pump or a few other parts with OEM parts. It is a Stihl design and a damn good working design. So hopefully most of the clone parts hold up really well to keep the cost down and you'll have a beast of a saw. Getting that cylinder fixed like you did seems to have really worked out great. Great video. 😎👍
I do the same thing with my daughter when she wants a new phone she has to work for it. It's great to teach them the value of working and earning a living.
Put the cylinder in the belt sander, Precision at its finest. That’s awesome, I would be afraid I would take too much Chineseium off the cylinder base. I love the knock off saws because I’m just a home owner with no real need for a legit MS360 or MS460. Love the videos
It's gotta be quite satisfying to build and run one of those clones saw kits. I have the G660, but bought a pre-built from a dealer in my area. Use it primarily for milling, but cut the larger rounds with it as well. Heavy bugger for sure and not one that I want to lug around all day. Great video on your kit saw, thanks for sharing!
The clone seems to work pretty well. I have a clone Stihl in my shop a friend asked me to put together for her. I may just give it a shot! Thanks for sharing
Just bought an assembled G466 power head last week . Took it on a Free wood haul right after I got it running and cut a couple large maple trees , one 33 inch at the stump . The saw pulled a 28 inch bar like a Beast !! After about 8-10 tanks it did stop oiling though, possibly got plugged up but haven't checked yet . For a saw that cuts that good and only $300 in it I'll gladly replace the oil pump.
Looks like it cuts pretty good. I rebuild/repair older Stihl models to their original condition as a hobby. Never have tried one of the clones saws though. Always been afraid too. I think I might now after you have had success with the 460 and 660. Thanks for the all videos!
Nice job on the build. 👍 I’ve found on my clone saws that those Chinese carbs just don’t hold a tune very well. I bite the bullet and put OEM carbs on them. They run better and more consistent.
Hello Mr. Brad, the new saw seems to be doing well, I am going out in a few mins to start the break in of my new 291,some thing to consider, when the logs show up that are really large diameter say some thing like 30 inches on up, I installed a 36 inch Oregon bar and I run a ''skip chain'', which is a chain that is made with 30 or so percent less cutting teeth, and that helps maintain full cutting power and rpm's , it is a little cuts a wee bit slower, but it cuts well, engine does not bog down, and will cut anything you will ever be able to get home with , you are forever more patient with the missing parts than me, I would have been a thorn to the company for sending an incomplete kit to me,
Good morning Ben. I’ve never used a skip tooth chain but I’ll keep that in mind. I’m trying not to take anything over 24” now but the occasional HUGE one comes in. These kits saws are kind of known for missing a part or two. Dealing with a Chinese company wasn’t really worth the hassle and I was excited to get it completed. Thanks as always for watching
@@FirewoodattheFurnace I have a Real Deal Stihl MS460, paid near 600 bucks for it 15 years ago. it is now dedicated to run the 36 inch bar, I bought the 291 to use when the big boy is really not needed, but I need some serious saw power just the same.
Morning brad that 460 is like knife through butter no sweat at all stright through and they are big lumps of wood again stright through that is a good saw it does the job proper what is the name of that 460 brad one hell of a saw thats for sure. Keep safe untill the next time
Just curious Brad….your thoughts on the weight of the clone saws vs the original ? Wonder what a scale would show comparing like saws. Don’t forget to get that chain stretch out of her……I’m assuming it is a new chain from seeing the slack when you were sitting with it, just prior to the time lapse. It sure sounds good !! 🪵👍👏🥃 I see you addressed the chain stretch…😏😎👍
I find that thinning out the oil helps with oiling the bar and chain. I’ve actually started using used motor oil exclusively for firewood And I’ve run saws for around 7 years I’m full time certified arborist Ofcourse nothing beats knowing you put stihl brand bar and chain oil in your saw instead of moter oil
Looks like the 460 clone is going to be a good saw Brad! I know nothing about the clone saws? It will be interesting to see how long they will last compared to the oem Stihls! If the price cut compares to the longevity cut?? Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🦅
I hate to be that guy,but sounds like your saw was sucking air a few times.Don't know if you fixed it yet,but the intake boot in the clone kits are sometimes sub par.Nice saw and video nonetheless.
You built this saw , & you call it a clone saw , where do you get the kits & why call it a clone ? And do you have a video of you building it ? The 460 goes thru wood like a knife thru butter , awesome , Thankyou for another great video, I am a subscriber
Hello, these saws are kit saws sold by farmertec which is a company in China. They sell aftermarket parts but you can buy a kit that comes with every part to build the saw yourself for around $300. I also built a MS660 clone from them as well. They are obviously not made to the same standards as OEM but for the price it’s a good deal in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
@@FirewoodattheFurnace I totally understand I really enjoy your vidoes I sell firewood here in Ireland its getting very expensive buying timber here our oil prices have gone through the roof I hope the family is well best wishes 👍
@@stewartmckeown5882 thanks so much. Yes everything is very high here as well. It’s getting tough because everyone’s prices (including mine) have to go up
Hi Brad please I don’t understand why don’t you just buy a stihl and not have to spend time messing about getting it running right is it that much cheaper 👍
Why get a copy ...... I've got 3 MS 460's its one of my favourite saws... 1 must have done 2000 hours and is a bit battered but still revs well and I'll go in the ground before it dies. The cost of a cheap copy just doesn't wash with me get a good saw and it will last ..if you're not a commercial operator ..a lifetime.
I just can’t afford it right now and I actually enjoy the build process and learning how they work. I’ve had pretty good luck so far and will fix them myself when/if they break. I only run saws 2 or 3 days a week so we will see how long it lasts. I have OEM saws as well that I run the majority of the time
Nice video and cutting!
Best regards!
Very nice build ..I love my farmertec 460..and all my other farmertec saws🤙🏻

Your saw ran amazing. With how detail you are should run for a long time. Have a great day!
Brad, nice job on the 460 and amen on the t-shirt!
Cut like butter, nice video, thanks. Mike
I was born in Chickasha Oklahoma, raised right here on the left Coast🤣🤣
The saw was running great tossing all kinds of chips..

I agree. It might not last 10 years but if it works for 2 or 3 I’d say it’s a win

Brad, not into clone saws myself. But it is nice to see your success in building one.

It’s made by Farmertec. It’s a Chinese copy of a Stihl
Looks a nice saw for the money
For a Chinese knockoff saw, it's working great. Time will tell how well it holds up to long term use.
Will a stihl bar match up to the clone chainsaw. All the stihls in my area are on back order. Keep the videos coming.
Yes all parts are perfectly interchangeable

Where did you find this saw in still colors.?
If you buy the complete parts kit it comes that way but you have to build it. If you buy the saw already built, they are blue

That saw sounds strong and cuts fast seems like a ported saw. Did you use the farmertec cylinder or get a aftermarket on the saw.
I’m using the farmertec cylinder and piston. I figured I’ll run it until there’s a problem and then upgrade as needed
How much does the 460 clone saw weigh? Do you like it more than the 261?
The 261 is my favorite firewood saw. The 460 clone is great for bigger stuff. Not sure of exact weight

Yes I just can’t afford the big saws right now. I had good luck with the 660 build and enjoyed the project so I decided to do this one

Is this the load that gave you poison Oak ?.
Yes sir lol.
Good wood to break it in on.now try it on some HARDwood!
660 is overkill for firewood. I use mainly 20” bar on my 460 but also have 25” & 28” bar. I just use a 16” bar on the 291.
Use a wedge on wood so your not pulling on saw so hard. You can hart saw or your self pulling like that
👍👍
Quick cut for sure.

That thing sounded like it was more of a pain in the butt than what it was worth!
It wasn’t too bad and I enjoy building them so hopefully it runs for a little while
