    10+ years ago photography was a big hobby of mine. Hobbies can fizzle out and for a long time my camera sat in a cupboard. My interest in hiking and getting the into the great outdoors was reinvigorated during lockdown, and I’m so glad I found your channel Nigel. It’s inspired me to take pictures again and fall back in love with the craft. I live on the foothills of the Dark Peak, so hope to see you out and about one day maybe!

    Another lovely video Nigel, agree entirely that nothing beats printing out your work, just to feel and see a print is what it is all about, if I could get back all the money I have spent over the years on printers, ink, and paper it would probably buy me several more Z7s but not the enjoyment.

    Nigel, thanks for a window into your world! I enjoy the progression from contemplation, to shooting, editing and finally, the finished print. I am faintly new to photography: almost 2 years to date. Just picked up a Pixma Pro 200, after much deliberation and study of its capabilities; pros, cons and reviews. Fog is a rich backdrop and a game changer for mood and texture. I would appreciate more fog in my backyard!

    Loved this video Nigel! The shot was incredible and I found the print bit so valuable - I’ve always felt I needed to crop specifically for A2 but even just the small bit of you adjusting to fit boarders has been massively helpful to me - I never liked how the side boarders were different to the top and bottom when I’ve tried fitting a full file to A size but simply adjusting so the top and sides match feels much more aesthetically pleasing! Can’t believe I didn’t think of that 😂 thank you!

  • @lylestavast7652
    @lylestavast7652 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    nice session there Nigel. I've been helping cure someone of thinking the histogram needs to touch both sides, this is a good video explaining why. I also do the exposure extremes to see what's there and not... very helpful to know upfront. And thanks for delineating the making of an accurate record shot from creating a piece of art. sometimes the 2 are the same or super close, other times the exposure is just a rough starting point. Some like the record side more than the manipulated result, neither exclusively "photography" defines... Liked how you preserved that tree for its subtle value to the scene.

I try to print or get printed many of my best photos and display them around , I love the comments or they will say I need this photo. I do get great comments from the social media as well....it makes you feel good. You also see your improvements in your photography by looking at older photos.

    Nigel so so very helpful. it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for - hope you do this again. My challenge lately has been too much contrast… Or darks - creating an unpleasant print. Then when I let up on black and contrast then it looks dull. I guess it’s a learning process. I purchased that LED light from fotospeed. Can’t wait to use it. Can not find it in the USA.

    Always interesting to see other photographers' visualization for the final image. I would have have kept it darker with the fog for an eerie or fantasy type feeling. But, that's what great about creative license. Both approaches have merits. Having said all that, great walkthrough of your process. Love the leaving and coming back. Amazing how much that can help. By the way, do you Softproof when printing?
