I'm always amazed at the actual ability/technology of the printer. Just the fact that these machines can spray miniscule dots of ink with such stunning accuracy for both detail and colour is really astounding.
I enjoy watching your videos because of the good photography information but also your soothing voice and demeanor. You're like the Bob Ross of photography.
Your simple honesty and direct approach is fab; your genuine enthusiasm, infectious. I think getting an entry-level printer is going to transform my occasional hobby and give me a real purpose when I make photos. Thanks, or diolch as we say here in Wales.
I really appreciate that you took your time with this one. No rushing to match some algorithms, just high quality and very helpful content! You set the bar sky high for our other fellow photographers on this platform 😊
I've been waiting on this one and was not disappointed. Great content and overview of your process and more importantly, being a great teacher. Thanks for sharing your expert knowledge.
Really good video Nigel, many thanks. WRT the video length - it suited the subject very well and I am always happy to watch longer videos if the subject call for it.
I like how you explained sharpening on screen vs sharpening in printing. And good timing. I am in process of printing quite a few photos. Thanks for sharing.
This was something that I was constantly debating what to do with all the photos that I have. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the subject. Keep up the great work ❤❤
I have to write a lot of this down in a trusty notebook that I have on the go at all times so I don't forget anything you in part on us with all this info which is absolutely brilliant, as was this Video just so brilliantly presented in your usual way, I have now made up my mind on my next printer and I am changing my Photo Paper and trying something new,Thanks, Colin.
So clear, so informative! And your timing is perfect: I've just prepared a space for matting/framing/printing, and obtaining the printer is my next step!
Took a lot of the mystery out of printing - and I've been trying to do it consistently for donkeys years. Your tips are brilliant. And they work. Thank you so much.
Thanks Nigel, I really liked the topic of printing and the way you explained the print processes and the paper types. Looking forward to your next “teaching & information” sessions.
Just a tip about monitor color calibration: as time passes and the screen gets older the colors will change. That's why I've bought a calibration device myself: got a high quality screen here, but every three months when I recalibrate its colors have always shifted somewhat. I guess it depends on how close to perfect you want your screen to be: I still think it's worth the money to buy a quality color calibration device. We're spending thousands on gear: why cheap out on a 150-300 dollar (depending on your needs) device that can be used for countless devices (including televisions, with a laptop), will be used for a lot longer than the average camera nowadays and plays quite a large part in the quality of your final image? It's like putting cheap tires on a Ferrari.
Thanks Nigel, this is great and perfect timing for me … I’ve just acquired a Pro 10s and I’m just in the process of experimenting and learning about the intricacies of printing.
Today's tutorial was especially important to me regarding ambient light, flat paper when covered with glass and the super resolution for my 24 meg F/F cameras on a retirement budget. Thank you and B/R. Lynn
I definitely enjoyed the video learning a few items. I've began a few months ago actively print several images. The printing process definitely helps enhance your photo experience plus a great teaching aid. Thanks
Thanks for an excellent discussion of the basics of printing. In my mind the goal of printing photographs relates to the difference between just taking pictures and being a photographer. I would enjoy more on the subject.
Phenomenally informative video! Thank you so much for doing this. I knew bits and pieces of this, but you pulled everything together in such a comprehensive and understandable way. This is so incredibly useful. I will be referring back to it often!
Thank you Nigel, I've been thinking about printing for years now but have never really understood it and most videos I watch seem to over complicate the process. Your video has really made the whole thing look easy and enjoyable, your passion for this subject really does show, thank you ☺
Really enjoyed this Nigel, picked up a few good tips there. I am attending a print workshop next month and very much looking forward to it as it's the one area of my photography that I want to improve more on this year

More like this! James Popsys said we often teach and get caught up in the science of photography and not the art. This is the art! I could always watch more stuff on printing.
Well, I’ve been looking at buying a printer for ages, but this video has just given me a kick up the backside to splash the cash! My grandad used to print all the time, I also used to snoop round his dark rook when I was a kid, he got so much enjoyment out of it and I have many of his prints still. I think it’s now my turn to put ink to paper. Thanks Nigel!!
Absolutely brilliant. Thank you, Nigel, for sharing your printing knowledge with us. It’s really helpful. Very much appreciated. Timing is impeccable! I’m printing a3 and a3+ pages for poster boards. Great video Nigel. It definitely makes me want to explore the possibility of printing (some of) my images myself. And explained as you did, it doesn't look too difficult ! Even though I am sure that a little of tries and errors are part of the process. Thank you for the content of quality that you bring on that channel. Always a pleasure to follow you.
Fantastic information, I live in Australia so I have to explore my paper options as I am just getting back into photography again after a 15 plus yr hiatus. Great video love the deep dive info format 👍👍👍
I love printing! Been doing it since the darkroom days. You are so right - there is something special about holding in your hands something that you’ve created. I have a small studio and frame my favorite images to sell at an art event we host once a month. This video was extremely helpful as I do all my printing from Lightroom. I definitely learned things today that I’m excited to try. Thanks so much!!! Beautiful images, btw, I love your work!
