You don't see men wearing shorts because they need to cover legs when they pray and because people are used to the hot weather. So shorts are not related to summer in our minds.
But still it has been always legal to wear shorts.

Many people who say it with a z aren't really incorrect, it the correct pronunciation they grew up. If you went to england every town and county would have its own correct way to say muslim.

I'm an expat in Saudi, before I came here I wasn't sure what it would be like, I was concerned that it would be strict and humourless. I have lived in Riyadh and currently I am in Jubail but have also visited Hail and Hateefah,
In the 6 months since I arrived, I have met some incredible people, my Arabic is improving very slowly, and the people are very warm, very friendly (a high percentage are under 30 years of age), they have a very well developed sense of humour, and most are very well educated.
I think for a long time Saudi has been very shy and reserved on the world stage, and is now emerging and the world will be amazed at the richness of the culture, the importance of family, being respectful and how amazing the people are.
The kingdom is so different from the way it is reported in a lot of the western media. I feel incredibly fortunate to have visited and enjoyed the hospitality. Even during the Covid pandemic, I have felt safe and I would recommend you visit if you get the chance. So ignore the negative press, it is a rich country in every sense of the word.

Abdullah The teachings of the Koran are nothing like the teachings of Jesus. You have clearly never read the Gospel.
Koran: "Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them".
      Jesus: "Love your enemies".
      Koran: Strike at their necks.
Jesus: He who lives by the sword will perish by the sword.
Mommad killed people. Jesus healed people. They are opposite. Night and day.

Another tip for tourists is don't call it a day when the sun sets. A thing that many people don't know is the night life in major cities is amazing and a lot of people go out and have fun at night because of the hot weather in SA. All the shops, restaurants, and malls open until the midnight and as a local saudi I prefer going at night because of the weather and because There's just one prayer time unlike the daylight.

So far the most realistic and honest “Things not to do in Saudi”... It would’ve been perfect if you kinda clarified one thing, waring shorts... We obviously have and wear short but it literally like literally depends on where you’re going... If you were in a crowded/ public place like a mall, airport, I wouldn’t recommend wearing them (+ banks and governmental places)... but if you are going to a restaurant, barbershop, gym, supermarket, hookah lounge, something that isn’t kinda open i’d say go for it... When I was back home I used to wear shorts and have a pair of jeans in the back of my car haha.

I don’t know why always people says that Riyadh isn’t “ Liberal“, actually it is the most liberal city in SA, almost all large cities in Saudi are “liberal”, Niqab (not birqa) actually depends on person’s believe, it has nothing to do with extremeness or liberality, there’s a lot of “ways” to practice islam like in Christianity there’s Orthodox, Protestant and Catholic, most of saudis (especially who live in middle regions) believe in Niqab, so it doesn’t has to represent the extremeness of a person, I hope I clarified some points

By “Liberal” here I meant “the acceptance of differences” not “believe in differences”, so in Riyadh (and most large cities) for example the people there are facing a lot of differences in there routine life so they became more acceptable to them, but in other small cities, like my city Al-Qassim (it is beautiful city by the way you should visit us if you can ☺️♥️ ) we don’t face a lot of differences so if we see some woman not wearing an Abaya (long black dress) we will feel strange and confused because we don’t see that normally, like if you see a woman wearing Abaya in your country, it all just about adjusting 🤷🏻‍♂️, Saudis in general are very educated people and we know about the differences in the other countries, we almost in every summer vacation we travel outside in Europe or Asia so we faced a lot of cultural differences, Saudi people themselves are very open minded, but the government was closed, even for this who not traveled they have a good access to the Internet and social media so they watched and faced a lot of
      cultural differences and stuff

    • @br19_yt
      @br19_yt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@Marco Chiacchiari I think it is the same way you feel about the north 🤷‍♂️ (interesting btw because the most liberal cities in SA is located in the west), at least for me and my family and my friends, it's a bit hard to acclimate with these changes which happens in Saudi Arabia right now, even Riyadh wasn't the same before these changes, I don't say that we were living in a bad situation before these changes but I really miss the way that SA was, it was more simpler and every thing was familiar to me, nothing big really change in my city just few things (like seeing a lot of women drive cars which I really loved it), but in Riyadh, it became a whole different city, and when I travel there for visiting family or finishing some business I really feel like I'm in another country and feel not belonging and not home 🙄

I was born in Saudi Arabia and I lived there for ten years and my family lived there for 25 years (some of them even 50) i am indian and i am a muslim , once when i was in kindergarten i was in a toy store with my mom and i was too fascinated by the toys and wasn't leaving the store my mom said c'mon lets go but i did not listen to her .So what she said after was that she is gonna leave me if i am not gonna come she thought that i wold come but i did not so i panicked and just left the store crying and trying to find my mom but in reality she was just outside the store i did not see her she kept calling my name but did not here that so then i got lost then a police officer saw in the mall crying all alone and he said where my mom was and i did not know and i was hungry as heck so he took me to a store and left me there for probably about 6 mins with an employee , the employee saw that i was crying and he gave me a bottle of fruit juce and chips for FREE but i refused to take it so he was like ok then don't take it then the police officer came with idk maybe about 4 more other police officers they took me to the office and shut down all the gates to the mall so that no one kidnaps me . then they secured the way a few more officers came surrounded me and took me took me back to my mom ..... like there were about TEN officers like WHAT TEN to this day i think that that was a bit over the top . THE way they took me to my mom was like one was behind me one was in front of me the was there and i felt like a special person at that moment like wut was that for a 5 year old

I spent 5 weeks in Saudi last year working on a touring magic show.
First time it had been to Saudi and the people seemed to love it. And I loved the people. As you said, all very friendly. I felt like a celebrity sometimes in the streets as people seemed to lose their minds seeing my white ass walking by lmao.
But yeah, it was a great experience, and best of all I felt safe the whole time I was there, safe being in public and safe being around authorities.

I send my love and peace to all of my Arabs brothers and sisters, especially Saudis from Iran❤ love is wise and hatred is foolish. If we want to live together and not die together, we need to respect our differences. All Europeans have come together and have made a powerful Union without saying "oh, you're a catholic, you're a protestant, you're a French or you're a German", but we muslims are still fighting over our minor differences. There's nothing more humane and Islamic than to create friendship and love among people. I'm Persian and honestly speaking I love all Arabs. May peace be with you❤❤🙏

Everyone is welcome to come to saudi arabia, your visit will make us happy❤️, we want to let the whole world know how beautiful saudi arabia is, not by media but by there own eyes.
As a saudi Arabian and i have traveled to many countries worldwide, you will NEVER find people who are welcoming more than saudi people.. they treat guests with so much care and such generosity and it is offered free of charge.. this is one of the traditions that every saudi was raised and grew up on .. is to be very generous with guests either locals or foreigners.
I hope the image about saudi arabia is changed. It’s very sad how the media portray us saudis.
