I remember this song back when I was 18. I always thought it was Divine Comedy and I used to search for this song. Thanks to you tube all those forgotten gems can be re-visited.
First band my dad took me to go see. Seen 'more popular' bands live but nothing could ever surpass seeing them live. Jake is a showman and an utter genius. The band and orchestra depending if they are playing and phenomenally talented. Shame they never made it big when they were in their prime and I think it's an ever bigger shame I wasn't alive then.
Saw them live twice in 1996 as the drummer in my band was the lightening engineer for them. Fantastic live show!!! Saw them in London 3 xmas's ago on a one off gig. Havent lost anything fabulous!!!
This song always brings a grin to my face. I'd never seen the video before, but I'm thrilled to say it's **exactly** as mental as it should be. Top work.
Seen them as a big band once and the cut down version twice. If you're wondering why they didn't make it bigger - to quote Suggs - a lot of money split a lot of ways, ain't a lot of money! But they were unbelievably fantastic when they filled the stage.
I always queue this one before or after Marc Almonds cover of Pearly Spencer for the similarities, the vocal, the violins, the harpsichord intro bit only today have I spotted the Wipeout /Paint it Black drumming on the intro. I bet there's loads of hat tips tbh, will have to have another listen. I too thought it was divine comedy til recently.
hehe I was at the gig in nottingham when the p.a. kept breaking down. I still love this song but I have to say when I saw it on the white room in 1996, the first thing that appealed to me about this band was Lucy Wilkins, the gorgeous blonde violinist with the angelic face. Seeing her gritting her teeth and playing with such passion giving her violin hell made her about the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen :)
I bought the single of this on Audio Cassette back in the 90s. Cassettes. As crap as they were, there was something fun about holding down the play button halfway to mess up the motor drive and listen to them at the incorrect speed in constant flux.
Eight Her swerving hips and her lip service Nine Consumes the hopes of all men dressed in black and flesh Ten Oh she ain't got the the time to speed Eleven She leaves the pie and always always eats her greens Twelve well she cries do or die Twelve reasons why, yeah, I love I love her! Oh twelve reasons why Twelve reasons why I wrote this love song It's off the cuff I jotted down a shopping list of love Of love of love of love I`m reminded that there's nothing that can touch her Yeah
@@cheekychopstick Yeah. I saw them on tour, just before lockdown and also at an indie festival two years ago. Jake can still scissor kick! Sorry to hear you're not close enough to catch a gig. Check out MLS Facebook. Jake does live acoustic sessions on Tuesday evenings currently. :)
I can think of more than 12 reasons why I'd rather be in the 90s; but did these great Britpop bands ever have terrible videos? Nice song, shame about the video: an obverse of the 1980s
Bear in mind minimalism meets Pop Art influences like the set of The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer and TFI Friday's 'found objects' style might have had upon videos then, though. It was a typically playfully 'new 1960s/early 70s' 1990s British contrast, in effect, to the often sincere, romantic, melodrama of 80s music and sound.
also bear in mind Phelem's terrible punctuation lmao, hes really stating that he likes the video as in asking the question the way he has at the start (i know he's meaning it in an americanism "did he ever") but his written structure says the exact opposite lol, its only the last sentence that clarifies his actual view, so maybe less effort in trying to look a smart arse (and having the complete opposite effect) and more time understanding the musical and production styles of the time in different genres would be more beneficial :)
I found it after trying for ages to find a non-existant song called "7 Reasons Why..."LOL The show is very off the wall and full of twisted humour. In one epiosde she dates GOD. Very funny.
The keyboardist for this band is now my tutor at my college
They've just had a write-up in The Guardian today!
I never thought about this at the time but Jake Shillingford's voice totally reminds me of Marc Almond in some ways. Both excellent.
MLS were very linked with MA, the orchestra performed on one of his songs. I think a huge influence on them.
This band is definitely underrated, the album Golden Mile is britpop gem of the 90's.
Live, this band were absolutely fantastic.
Superb! Jake Shillingford is such an underrated singer/songwriter.
I've been looking for this song for 20 years.

I forgot how great it was. To hear it again so recently I've already had it on 6 times today otlr thereabouts

Me too. I danced this song when I was 20 at disco. Glory days!

Britpops best anthem, period. Absolutely crackin tune and with the 'tunnel of love' sound it ooooozzesssssssssssss quality
Off to see this band (probably one of them!) in October - I'd never heard of them until they showed up as playing a local venue!
What a stunning live band!
One of the violinists is my aunt
Wow
Top playing with the upmost vigour and thiss travk would not have been half as good without the violin. Tremendous., 🎻🎻🎻😂🥁🎻

great song!great band!
What surprised me is that I'm so into Britpop in the 90s (Pulp, Blur, Suede, not Oasis) BUT HAVENT heard of this band!
This song always brings a grin to my face. I'd never seen the video before, but I'm thrilled to say it's **exactly** as mental as it should be. Top work.
This sounds like a James Bond theme song, I love it!
de la PM buen tema no la había escuchado, muy recomendable. Saludos desde Perú.
Utterly fab!
Just in case anybody's wondering what the instrumental section at 2:10 reminds you of...
...it's "Tunnel of Love" by Fun Boy Three
Yes ahhhh yes the work of Terry Hall! 👍👍🎵🎤🎤🎤👌👌👌👌👌
Exactly. I thought that's only me who noticed... :)
#The music is great, but if you get that vocal its magic......it absolutely captures the feeling......this is soul singing,

What a marvellous song and a great band indeed!Does anyone have the extended version of the song titled ''17 Reasons why''?
Reminds me of my teenage years!
What a video! Fantastic, if only more videos could be this entertaining. Excellent song too of course.
I always queue this one before or after Marc Almonds cover of Pearly Spencer for the similarities, the vocal, the violins, the harpsichord intro bit only today have I spotted the Wipeout /Paint it Black drumming on the intro. Great song, but I'd forgotten how much it sounds like Tunnel Of Love by Fun Boy Three. Was there ever a lawsuit here?
I can hear FunBoy Three's Tunnel of love in those violins.
Perfect for a Bond film.
Awesome! How lucky are you? I love My life story.
Ok, what Uni do I have to go to then?
