I always queue this one before or after Marc Almonds cover of Pearly Spencer for the similarities, the vocal, the violins, the harpsichord intro bit only today have I spotted the Wipeout /Paint it Black drumming on the intro. I bet there's loads of hat tips tbh, will have to have another listen. I too thought it was divine comedy til recently.
First band my dad took me to go see. Seen 'more popular' bands live but nothing could ever surpass seeing them live. Jake is a showman and an utter genius. The band and orchestra depending if they are playing and phenomenally talented. Shame they never made it big when they were in their prime and I think it's an ever bigger shame I wasn't alive then.
I used to hear this on the forces radio in Hong Kong and never knew what it was called or who it was by. This is the first time I have heard it since 1996. Fascinating I know
Seen them as a big band once and the cut down version twice. If you're wondering why they didn't make it bigger - to quote Suggs - a lot of money split a lot of ways, ain't a lot of money! But they were unbelievably fantastic when they filled the stage.
This sounds like a James Bond theme song, I love it!
Off to see this band (probably one of them!) in October - I'd never heard of them until they showed up as playing a local venue!
Woke up with this song in my head even though I haven’t listed to it since I was 16 (I’m 43 now). Reminds me of good times 😊
Una canción monumental !!!
Absolutely love MLS.
I can hear FunBoy Three's Tunnel of love in those violins.
What surprised me is that I'm so into Britpop in the 90s (Pulp, Blur, Suede, not Oasis) BUT HAVENT heard of this band!

Pure genius and timeless!!! ❤❤
So underrated and the song of my teenage years! More people should know this song ❤
Bland.
Absolutely banging song. So few likes? why!?!?!?
I think The Golden Mile by My Life Story is One of the best albums EVER 😃❤️🎶 Please put it on Spotify
This is a fucking tune! 2023
Still a favourite!
This band is definitely underrated, the album Golden Mile is britpop gem of the 90's.
Memories kisi fm bogor
I always though space could’ve done a song like this
Shame the single release was shelved. I think it would have been massive

Great song. I'd love to do the 90's all over again.
Hi Paul 👍
I'd forgotten about this song until I saw that My Life Story were touring with The Wonder Stuff! So happy I rediscovered it!
listening to my life story in 2022 ftw
My life story should have been in huge success...one of the lost treasures of British music.
My go to MLS song...
🦇🌕🤰🌤🌠
digging Pamala Anderson on the violin!
i shall ask my mum if she knows this, also apparently the dummer is one of my music teacher's friends
The drummer in this 90s Britpop band, Simon Wray, is my drum teacher.
I never thought about this at the time but Jake Shillingford's voice totally reminds me of Marc Almond in some ways. Both excellent.
MLS were very linked with MA, the orchestra performed on one of his songs. I think a huge influence on them.
Yes, spot on. 👌 The first time I recall hearing the song in 1996(?) I thought it was Marc.
Loved this band Jake is such a dude and incredible voice and talent
One..,...
Just a beautiful song👌
Perfect for a Bond film.
Brilliant melody.
Heard this a couple of weeks on an ITV 3 repeat of Corrie from 1997. It was playing from the garage in the background.

I can't work out who he's trying to rip off, Blur or the Divine Comedy. Shite, and droney, a bit like Blur and Divine Comedy...

Back in the days when Britannia music club would send you CD’s you might like - YES PLEASE!
Outstanding track,indie pop perfection.
Marc Almond FOREVER!
Great song, but I'd forgotten how much it sounds like Tunnel Of Love by Fun Boy Three. Was there ever a lawsuit here?
Jake, such a snappy dresser. A modern day dandy. Always looks fabulous.
One of the most under rated groups of a generation,
Omg I'd forgotten about this . Fantastic track
Such an amazing band. Still sounding perfect to this day, especially live.
