I saw Lush at the Brixton Academy in 1991 with a group of mates. I was at the bar getting in the beers where Miki Berenyi was. She was also having a drink on the other side of it. She smiled and winked at me. I've never been so proud. My mates was so fucking envious. I Will never forget that night.

Nah, never too late to unearth pleasures. There is that tendency to do a lightweight face palm and wonder why it didn't come up on the radar before then. Fair enough, both ways.
@@Strawberryknight yes, discovered. how is that 'stupid'? he doesn't mean unearthed from obscurity for the rest of the world's benefit. You're spending too much time around indie boy baby-gatekeepers.
Hands down, this band was one of the best shoegazing bands of the 90's. There is no comparison, nor any other band quite like them. I just wish they would come back to tour again. Though I can understand their reasons not to.
@@helderjulio7753 I prefer them post Britpop. They were better at being Blondie than My Bloody Valentine. Cocteaus were considered a bit old-hat during the shoegaze era, more like a Ramones to shoegaze's punk..Godfathers to the scene but detached from it. But I'd agree with you 100% if we can view shoegaze in its full context including its forefathers. They were always my favourite and I think their music, all of it, has stood the test of time far better.
Saw them on 29/10/91 at the Portsmouth Pyramids with Gallon Drunk and Passing Clouds as support acts. Don't remember much about it apart from being in an advanced state of refreshment, but that was nothing unusual at the time. If you can remember the 1990's clearly then you probably weren't there...
Gotta love Miki's iconic green dress. Just curious, who's the guy at the beginning and the end of the video? He's also pictured on the "Single Girl" 7" clear vinyl single.
We were going to see them at the Tivoli in Buckley but they had to cancel because they were playing Top of the Pops. Was really disappointed but happy for them!
I was a teenager in 1996....Miki and Louise Wener from Sleeper were a BIG part of my adolescence...I "thought" about them quite often. Several time a day sometimes. With my special sock.
Lovelife was never my favorite album when it was released. At the time I found it too mainstream compared to their previous albums and I sorely missed the dreamy quality of their vocals. This video is a great example of how I felt they had gone mainstream. To be honest I haven't gone back to listen to the album in almost 20 years. After recently learning that they released new material in 2016 (yeah, I know, 6 years ago) perhaps I will give this another chance before buying Blind Spot.
I remember buying this and then playing it to death. I liked this and Olympia... I just warped out on their sound. It was my soundtrack.... that and walking to the ocean every other day in my east coast apartment.
Good song. I prefer their earlier, more shoegaze stuff, but there may have been peer pressure in the industry to be more britpop around 96 and shoegaze was less popular in 96 than it was in 92.
How NINETIES does Miki Berenyi look here? Neon lime dress and scarlet hair, with that bleached out mid-90s video style on top. Good Lord she was breathtaking. In real life too. She signed an autograph for me in Dublin around the time of this release. She didn't strike me as a particularly nice person, on that occasion, or onstage, or in the press. But who said rockstars were required to be nice.....
Who would have thought that the sentiments expressed by whimsical yet highly influential 90's indie rock bands would have resulted in the beginnings of population collapse in 2024?

True. That was the old good days... Miss miki and lush.

They're still a great label, a little more varied in sound but putting out great work. I do sort of miss their whole unified house aesthetic through.

Lush introduced me to shoegaze. Got to see them open Lollapallooza back in '92. Love her iconic hair!

This is the most crazy thing ever. It’s 5am, and this song just popped into my head. My mind is blown! 🤯
What a fantastic song.
"Don't wanna clean up your mess again tonight!"
the beginning for me is the best guitar riff in history, it is said
Anybody else reading her book? I used to have a major crush on Miki in the mid 90s.
I’m listening to it on audible now. The SA was utterly terrifying to listen to. Why did she feel the need to be so graphic?
My library finally got it in, and I’m nearly finished it. It’s so well written, I love it so far!

Their singing had some excellent harmony. very skillfully done. rarely do any singers put in so much effort at producing so much harmony.
Gosh they were the best live!!!

The groom was in a lot of Chris Morris's shows, I wonder if that was a deliberate choice.
