Not quite the result I had in mind after the success with the Fiesta ST (Video available to watch) Tune in next week to see if I can have better luck with the Auto version! Thanks for watching everyone!
@PocketRockets First. You should not launch it it race mode. With ESP and traction control fully off the car will only spin its wheels like you noticed. It does not depend on surface or weather, it’s simply a fact. Too much torque when starting at almost 3000rpm. I think a start without launch control would have been faster. You should have it in Sport mode with its limited traction and ESP for launches. I guess you could have shaved of atleast a second if not more.
@@harrysamwel3665 I get your point but this car was running Pirelli P Zeros and the weather was optimal to suit the choice of rubber - P Zeros in my experience only really work in warm/dry conditions With traction, if the tyre choice isn't right you'll either get wheel spin for days or with traction on it'll just bog - joys of FWD launching Thanks for watching
From experience, keeping ESC on in FWD cars they tend to bog down and lose loads of time Not worth it, especially on the drive train (driveshafts etc) you'd rather it wheelspin a bit than bog down then grip up I proved this with the Fiesta I did the same 0-60 test with, tried ESC on & off and ESC off was quicker Also, adamant the road used to film this wasn't the greatest and this weekends video may/may not prove that further Really, FWD cars were never optimised for standstill starts, but it does make for humorous/pointless burnouts and clouds of tyre smoke 🙈🤣 Thanks for stopping by, watching and commenting 👍🏼
Usualy yes, but not on the ST Focus. It launches much better in Sport than in Race mode. The ideal suspension setup for drag race would be normal or sport on the front and race on the rear, but you can’t do it and it would make your car unbalanced for normal driving. You need softer suspension setting for the front to eliminate wheel hops but max stiffnes at the rear. So next time leave it in sport, it won’t bog down if you use your right foot sensibly. Or leave it in race mode but lower front tire pressures. Anyway, using launch mode is stupid on hot hatches. These are not drag cars and in real life 99,9% you will use normal street launch. Everyone can go fast in a straight line. This car however goes faster than the competition on a twisty road. It’s much more fun. 😉
The difference is the torque is too much for a fwd car from standstill. You actually need it to have mild traction control to have it let you get some traction. Fords are actually pretty mild with Sport mode.
As an owner of this car I can confirm it’s 0-60 performance is poor. It’s not a car for launching though (like all FWD cars) it’s a car for having fun on flowing B roads and I can confirm it’s amazing in that regard.
Couldn't of said it better myself, you're exactly right 👍🏼 Although, tune in next weekend to see me test the 0-60 in the Auto version 👀 Thanks for watching!
Totally agree with you. Mine is a Mk4 orange fury mountune mapped to 330PS and 515NM. Being fwd it is true to the hot hatch ethos of fun over clinical and expensive performance. I love the car for how it performs, from over 60 and that is all I am going to say. You know what I mean. Below sixty, just get her rolling. 0-60 times are an utter archaic irrelevance. It is rolling and in gear where the fun comes I think you would agree. th-cam.com/play/PLT9OSi0F4mTORY6od8prnZqzw1Iqp2jRB.html
@@diamus1004 spot on! She’s all about the 3rd and 4th gear pull, the M330 takes that to the next level. Ps I follow your channel, your car is one of the reasons I pulled the trigger on the mountune so thank you 😊
@@diamus1004 how many miles have you clocked up on yours? Specifically with the m330? My only concern with the 2.3 ecoboost is the issues with the cylinder head, I know they fitted the wrong gasket to the RS but I’ve also found out the open deck design for the coolant can cause issues. Thoughts?
🙈🙈🙈 Oh no! To be honest, before Ford UK pull press cars off their fleet, they tend to replace every consumable part - they look after them no expense spared Thanks for watching
As I said in previous comments, in this instance it was more the road surface being poor - you can see in the Auto 0-60 (now posted) I use the same settings on a 'better' road surface and get different results
Haven't seen a single person ever get close to the claimed 5.7 seconds. Best I've seen was 5.9, average is more like 6.0 to 6.3 seconds. acceleration from a standstill is not really that big of a deal for a FWD hot hatch, still pretty misleading from ford.
Not so sure about that, you can see the proof in the Auto version already on the channel But yes, generally FWD cars are poo for launching at standstill, common knowledge still fun for dirty burnouts 👍🏼
Any auto will be more likely to achieve quicker times over a manual counterpart, Ford still claim the Auto will do the same time as the Manual so I'm basing the test on that Plus I've said million times, road/environment conditions play the biggest part to 0-60 tests, so gear ratios differences are really a drop in the ocean
@@PocketRockets I don't wanna bash the car, I own one myself, just I genuinely haven't seen a single review in which they were even close to 5.7 seconds on the manual. But yes, of course the road/environment conditions play a huge part. While the factory times of the manual GTI and i30N are much higher, most reviews match of even beat them. The ST is a great car regardless.
@realizevermillion If I had the Manual again, and did the same test on the road I filmed the Auto 0-60 test I reckon I would have matched it Ultimately you've bought the Focus ST to push it on a B Road or hustle it around a race circuit, not sit at Santa Pod drag racing it lol
Mine is a MK4 mountune mapped to 330PS 515NM. Had her from new. Never tried a zero to sixty. Utterly irrelevant. I agree with other owners below, the 5.6 quoted is very optimisitc. Why ford went with P zeros from the pilot sport 4s tyres from the MK4 is beyond me and the first reason for why I would not trade up. You have to be patient, get the car rolling into second then pin it. The auto will be quicker, but given the experience with the mk4 auto it could be a fail as it never shifts up into six, with the longer fifth ratio if I remember. The Mk4 auto was an abysmal fail, except for the 0-60. This car shines approaching sixty and over. Utterly illegal, but such is life when stock she has been taken to 164 and mine probs could on a private straight and long enough piece of tarmac top 170. So upsum 0-60? Who cares? That number was only important on top trump trading cards. Now just have a car with some lipos and the 0-60 may become worth talking about with awd and clever electronics. Cars such as the ST and type R are I think the last true hot hatches we all grew up loving, I am 57. Even the upstart i30N has gone dct. It should be all about in gear and the thrill of just fwd. The fezza is tremendous, but an utterly different bird.
