    Great review. Thanks! I'll consider that drive for my backup. Hopefully, it wouldn't fail me. I haven't experienced failures with WD yet.

    Just had my 2.5 year old WD My Cloud fail. Never been moved, WD just saying it's a harddrive failure and tough. Really disappointed in WD, I've got a 11 year old Time Capsule still going strong.

    Of course this is only my personal case, but I just recently lost 4tb of backup to a WD Passport drive, that had never been moved around, mistreated or abused in any way.
    4tb of files, just vanished, for zero reason.
    Again, this is just my personal experience, but it was very recent, and I would never trust any WD Passport drive with my data.

      Sorry to hear that! I’ve bounced around between WD and Seagate personally and haven’t had any issues with either. That being said I hope you had your important files backed up to a second location as well!

      I actually have WD external drives fail too. Anyway, with such drives, you’ll always need at least two for a true duplicated backup.

      I too have had bad luck with WD and won't use them again. Even their warranty system is terrible to use.

    2 weeks ago I had a second Seagate Barracuda dying within 3 years, ordered a WD Elements a week ago, no way, however, to reformat from MBR to GUID. they are all crap (they were all intended for Time Machine)

      I have not used Lacie. But all spinning hard drives will have a life span.

    Thank you for a very helpful video. If I may offer a suggestion, please make another video discussing external SSD for Mac OS Time Machine backups. The small drives are interesting but are they practical for Time Machine? I don't need a large capacity drive since I do not edit videos or large Photoshop files. There are many videos on these drives and they are all quite boring. They only discuss how fast they are but that is only part of the story. Will they work as a Time Machine drive, and will they overheat? Thanks again.

      Those small portable hard drives should work fine. The drives only run whenever the backup runs so they are not running all the time so durability should not be any issue.

    Hello. Is it possible to make a full disk backup with Time Machine in Monterey? I tried it but it only backs up the disk named "data".

    • @teohontech7141
      @teohontech7141  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Data is the drive with all your apps, files and settings. So Time Machine is backing up the right drive. The other drive is for MacOS.
