Diesel Heater New Type Controller

  • After installing my Chinese Diesel Heater I found the LCD screen was different to the common one shown on TH-cam. Instructions were not very clear so I went through all button combinations with help from the instructions I had to work out what buttons do what.
While there is no clock display on this LCD screen, timers are quite accurate when times are set.

Like so many others here, your presentation was absolutely helpful. It helped that you illustrated the difference between the earlier controller and the one I now have. Before, I was looking for the signal bars that no longer exist on the newer controller. Your steps worked perfectly, even for my second controller. I really think they keep changing up these controllers to keep us foreigners constantly confused! Good job!

I guess we can't set pump frequency anymore... and even though it has a temperature setting, it will never actually turn off when it reaches the temperature you set. Appears to just go down to it's lowest pump setting that appears to be 2.0 hz. ...Off to buy an old style controller while I still can.

I have this control on the 3rd 5KW all-in-one (red slim case) I bought in January 2023 from VEVOR. The two physically identical heaters I bought before in 2021 and 2022 had what was called "new Blue-style controller" with the elapsed- time. I do not like this control - NOT because it's in any way difficult to use, but because it connects to completely differently-programmed controller!
This controller start-up routine idles the fan super low, and turns on the glow plug. When the plug reaches temp, it does a fan pulse with 3-shoots of fuel from the pump and then drops the fan speed back again. Then starts pumping the normal H3 pump rate before gradually increasing the fan speed to a high rate. This results in too much fuel and white smoke during start up and a fuel smell escaping from the air intake for about 5-10 seconds - until the flame in the burner can be heard noticeably increased and the glow plug goes out. After that, the fan comes up to a mid-range blowing lukewarm air until it reaches operating temp at H3 by default and the blower settles in. At shutdown the glowplug comes back on and the fan is slowed to almost stop - running at idle for about a minute or so - apparently with the idea of allowing the additional the burner chamber to burn off more unburned fuel residue. Then after hearing the exhaust pipe ticking from the heat, the fan finally comes back up to a useable speed to complete the cooldown.
The identical unit with the earlier "New Blue Controller" did not attempt to reach near overheat conditions by virtually shutting off the fan on an already hot burner chamber with a lit glowplug. Instead it turned the glowplug on with the blower going immediately to a high speed until cooldown was completed. During startup, the fan ran at a slow but still functional CFM while the glowplug was on. On reaching ignition temperature the pump was started at a high rate, the fuel ignited and the fan speed was increased to force more air through the chamber. The result was no exhaust backflow and faster operating temperature air discharged from the outlet.
I do not prefer this new style controller at all. However, it is both the controller and controlboard (and possibly the harness wiring) that would have to be retrofit to convert it to the timer-type Blue controller. (Unfortunately this same controller format with "H3" on the display is also being sold in the original blue controller shell! It is not to be confused with the black or blue "00:00" ones!) The start-up and shutdown procedures programmed into this "H3" controller do not compare favorably against the "00:00". This was not an improvement.😠

    @trevorkingsley7002 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Not exactly a new controller, got one about 4 years ago and they had been around for awhile then. Just a couple of points to clarify,
    1. The temperature reading is from the outside of the heat exchanger housing,
    2. The glow plug does not heat the fuel, it heats the vaporizing screen, which, when hot enough, vaporizes the fuel which is then ignited by the glow plug. The fuel has to be vaporized for ignition, not just atomized as some believe,
    3. Pairing the remote should be done in standby mode, IE power on, heater not running.

There's now yet another version of these lcd panels and controller boards, and to prime you need to press the top left button 3 times, this starts a countdown for 60 seconds on screen and primes the pump. There is NO advanced settings on the new lcd (1688 menu) so you cant adjust the hz/fan speed. The newer lcd is identified by a 'V' embossed in the rear of the plastic, and is NOT compatible with other controller boards, only those that also have a 'V' on them. The controller boards are red and smaller and seem to at the moment be fitted to 2kw models, but no doubt will find their way in to 5/8kw versions.

To try and reduce coking do you agree with running it at a lower heat setting (not over H3) and in Alpine mode? To get the combustion chamber staying hotter as there is less airflow over it. I realise the pump speed and fan speed automatically adjust. But what else can we do? Crazy the “new” model doesn’t let you adjust pump speed! I live in Colorado at 6800 feet (and regularly camp over 10,000). My Vevor heater has this controller and it ran fine the first couple hours, then started blowing white smoke and threw an E-8 code. I didn't know it had a high altitude mode and it was running too rich. (I did all the normal E-8 troubleshooting, and it wasn't bubbles or the bad green fuel line.) I think I need to clean the heater out and try again, but I really want either the old controller and board where you can set fan speeds for your altitude or something better. So happy I have found your video, I am hoping I can now get it primed. Another problem I have though and I'm not sure if it relates to the system not yet being primed is that when I turn it to on it acts if it's going to work but in approx. 5 seconds it shuts off and the only way I can get the screen back is to disconnect power and the n reconnect power. If you have any thoughts on this, I would greatly appreciate it.

I've just bought one of these 5 Kw heaters to act as an emergency heater for my regular gas heater.........it came with a separate key fob control as well that has an on and off button and up and down arrow buttons, but the key fob does nothing to the settings. and won't switch it on or off or adjust the temp setting........reading the manual doesn't give an indication to have the control on the remote key fob or the front face panel.....only the front panel settings work.

Hz is not available on this controller. To work out usage you would need to wait till heater has come to temp on each of the H1-H6 settings, count the pump pulses for 1 minute, and multiply by pump delivery amount, 0.02ml. Hope that helps

  • @stilllooking7996

Kero added to the fuel, does that clear existing coke or only reduce new coking? I was thinking of running a high kero mix occasionally. What percentage? I heard these pumps need diesel to lubricate them, so they wear out fast running on straight kero.

Hi Mic, thanks for your informative video. Can I ask a question? I have the same 3 fan blade LCD with the round Settings button symbol, not the spanner symbol. I see that your max. case temp. was 178 Deg.C, and mine is about the same, 176. But my prev. heater, a Hcalory 2Kw (with blue LCD screen) gets to about 230 Deg.C. and so I need to find out why this one has far less heat O/P, and if any changes can improve it? I know that the LCD and ECU are a matched pair, but should I expect more from this heater? Thanks.

    • @2005mic
