  • This is the "New Type Chinese Diesel Heater Controller" that now seems to be shipping with the Diesel Heaters. Since my last video in the functions of the heater I have been asked a heap of questions some of which I answer in this video.
    My original video link
    • Diesel Heater New Type...
    I will endeavour to make some more videos if more questions are asked and also a video on replacement controllers, and common problems through the use of the diesel heaters
    Thanks for watching

    I think these would sell better, if it did not have digital LCD controls and instead had regular knobs ...that are labelled. Having to use these screens and hold down multiple buttons, etc..gets to be to complex for something as simple as a heater.

    Quick note about the remote's battery: "27A" stands for the format (more accurately "A27" or "MN27"), not 27 amperes, which would be one hell of a revolution in the small battery world. The "A" stands for "Alkaline" (I think). The A27 is about the same diameter as the AAAA battery but much shorter, and holds only 20-22mAh of capacity, 28 times less than a 1.5V AAAA battery. The higher voltage makes it last longer on low usage.

Im curious to know your thoughts on the safety of these units, especially from the persepctive of the checks it go thorugh to monitor for faults, be it during start up or operation. I am considering plumbing the pickup into my vehicles deisel tank, but would like to have a better understanding of any potential risks first.

    thank you for making this vid - i have 2 heaters heating my home ( well the 2 rooms the 2 of us use 90% of the time) - one is the older version and the other is this one - i prefer the older version as you can use secret menus to adjust fan , pump speeds etc etc ...... the new one has none of this ..... but saying that this one works just fine ......... i have it set to minimum all the time , thats all it needs to keep me warm - same for herself downstairs - all good - looking at mixing in filtered used engine oil but will probably make a duel fuel system with a selector valve between tank a and tank b - start up on pure kerosene , after at running temp switch over to 60/40 keresone / oil mix on tank b , and go back to tank a for 10 min before shuidown to burn off all the carbon ....... great vid man , well done

    The first mode that this guy did when it was on those who don’t know it actually did do some thing it turned on a light with a gear circle and inside the gear circle is the thermometer so it’s telling you the inside temperature and it’s to protect the inside temperature, so if it goes to a certain temperature, it’ll shut off without catastrophic failure

    Something to mention, i think these units auto regulate fuel and air to maintain a 150C case temperature. I have been testing if these units will run on waste oils, and they do. I tested with used motor oil mixed with 30% gasoline, this mixture runs fine around 145C and the machine will start on it just fine. a 20% gas mixture ran fine but the start up was rough in 4C ambient temp, took 2 tries to start, and smoked a whole lot, with this mix id recommend starting and stopping on diesel to get combustion temp up. I also tested 10% gasoline and 90% used motor oil, this ran fine around 140C but eventually i think it made it to close to 150C, i did not try starting on this mix, as i feared it would not start and i would have to re-prime my lines with diesel. I think this unit auto regulates air and fuel because if left long enough, the oil gas mix will reach close to 150C case temperature, even though it starts out lower. I also ran this heater on straight diesel and on setting 6 i only got the case temp to about 150C. HOWEVER, after running my 10% gasoline mix i switched the fuel back to straight diesel and once it went through all the lines i was able to see 190C case temp, then it slowly lowered back down to around 160C. I think this unit attempts to auto compensate for different grades of fuel and it tries its best to get the case temp to be stable at 150C, this process is slow, but i think that is what it is doing. I am trying vegetable oil in this heater next.

      I too think that this model does something different than the previous models with the red digits. With those, you have to mess with injection frequency for a given fan speed - but thats a bit silly, if you know the fan speed and case temperature and you can adjust the fuelling then that is far better than putting in bingo values and hoping for the best. Mine runs on diesel only and runs far leaner than the ones other people mess with - and I don't have to mess with it, it runs clean as a whistle almost no deposits at all. So the other day I ran it when it was already warm inside, I noticed it quickly warmed to 200C and then you can audibly hear the fuel rate decrease but the fan stays as it was, the outflow temperature was around 100 and it regulated at around that. I'm not sure if the older designs do that - or at least do it quite as well. From the videos I have seen, people seem to be running them way way too rich just because they can adjust the fuel frequency. You don't want stochiometric ratio, that only applies to fixed volume rather than a flame in a windy tube, besides if they see black smoke or soot build up its obviously too rich.

    Thank you for the great video. Am I correct in assuming that I cannot set the on timer and the off timer to work in succession. For example, I want the heater to come on in 1 hour for then turn off an hour later when I am away from my caravan. I might want to do this if I know it will be freezing tonight and I want to heat up the interior for a little while in the middle of the night. It looks like I can only activate the on time timer when it is not running and the off time timer when it is running but I need to activate each of these manually.

    A very useful video. On mine I just use the timer settings, mostly. Usually the auto turn-off after the set time. It allows me to run it for the set time after leaving the area. Good for a heat boost on a cold night with just a quick trip to the heater to start it, select pump speed (usually H 6) and select the timing mode (a one hour run has been adequate thus far). Then lock up and leave. Top two buttons on the controller (I think, but not sure) select the timer mode when running.
    They must have programmed the minimum pump speed (5000 strokes per hour seems usual - 50 strokes in 36s or 1.4Hz) and the maximum stroke rate, along with the associated fan speeds somewhere. I am wondering if the motherboard has any means of re-programming these settings? Or maybe the smaller heater is simply fitted with a smaller capacity pump?
    I have a 2kW ‘small body’ heater which I have not checked out much.. That it works is a bonus, with these heaters.🙂

    One option for a controller is simply a rotary knob with an LED on top for errors. But I did not realize that the lowest it will go is 2 hz, or I would have gone for this controller. At the temperatures I am in, I only need 1 hz, so 2 hz is using twice the fuel I need to use.

    This controller is worth nothing, at full power the housing gets to 210 degrees and than it starts to derate te pump frequency in an irratic way to limit the temperature, not a very elegant way. I swapped the motherboard and controller with the old type and adjusted the advanced settings, runs perfectly fine now. May be the factory is able to tune the heater with this controller, mine was not properly tuned, way to much fuel.

    • @dr_jaymz
      @dr_jaymz ปีที่แล้ว +3

      what do you mean erratic? Mine adjusts it to keep between 200 and 210C. It seems to be spot on without any soot so its obviously not too rich. I live at 300ft above sea level (which may affect the ratio) and perhaps the single most important thing is the high difference between the fuel and the heater. Mine is about 3ft. I mention that last thing because if you activate the pump at 3ft for a 28ml pump you get 28ml of fuel for 1000 ticks. If you have more than 3ft you get less and below 3ft you get more fuel. If you gave -3ft the fuel actually doesn't stop and floods it. The newer unit certainly does auto regulate and if you think about it it really does have to because there are so many factors. It doesn't really have any excuse, it knows the temperature of the casing and it knows fuel amount and fan speed so the only thing it can't know is how much restriction there is on the inlet and outlet.

    • @wilvandendoel6782
      @wilvandendoel6782 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes , it is doing that, it changes the frequency all the time to keep the temperature in that range, yes, you get the maximum amount of power, but thats not always wat you want, if you don’t need that, its nice if you can lower the amount of fuel to your needs, the heater also burns cleaner this way if I look at the amount of CO, thats why I like the old controller more. For the rest, it works fine as it is, there you are right.

    • @oliver90owner
      @oliver90owner ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wilvandendoel6782 the pump speed and fan speed must be correlated, or the carbon monoxide or excess air would be all over the place. The temperature in the casing is not a control sensor, per se. It is a feed-back to the ECU to determine flame or flame-failure and as a top limit to prevent heater damage, nothing (much) more.
