How To Highlight Text In Mac Pages

- macmost.com/e-1970 There are two ways to highlight text in Pages on the Mac. The first has to do with editing and revisions, and is usually used when collaborating on a document with others. But you can also highlight text purely as a style, placing a solid color behind characters. To make things easier, you can create character styles for different text highlight colors and even assign keyboard shortcuts to them.

Simple highlighting is one of the most non-intuitive things, so shocked Apple would make it this difficult

RIDICULOUS. Very good video thank you. Apple should have a simple Hightlight button to toggle on/off for all documents. Apple falls short on this real bad. Frustratingly complicated for today's apps.

Hi Gary you have such great insights with Mac, so I hope you could give me direction on using the color picker when changing the highlight colors. I can save the colors to the color palate at the bottom of color picker but for some reason I cant seem to get them to apply to the text background. Can you help? Thanks!

Although my advanced setting dropdown was a bit different and was called More Text Options, I was able to figure it out. It brought up the color wheel for me to choose the highlight color. But in the end, I got it and all's well. Thanks!

Do you mean the Numbers "Calendar" template? Those are just cells like any other. You can select one and change its color, or the color of its text.
Support from any reader please - when I click in character styles to use the plus symbol on the top right corner it doesn't look highlighted and when I click it it doesn't work. I have highlighted a word before going to select it. Any idea why this function is not working for me?

Yes. It is a light for when I'm using the camera in the other direction.

I wonder why my colour options next to the colour wheel for the background only give me muted colours instead of the classic colour options you get. If I want to make a yellow highlight, I have to keep tinkering with the colour wheel.

Just select the text you want to print, copy, new document, paste, and print.
Question: what if I want to choose a custom color? The text simply won't highlight when I choose a different color ...
Click on the little color wheel to be able to choose any color. If that doesn't work, try setting a regular color first, then change it using the color wheel.

Do you mean how to have text highlight while using text-to-speech? There is no universal way to do it, though app developers could always add that into their apps if they wanted.

How I can select only highlighted words to copy and paste. I know that can be done in word but not sure how to do it in pages. Someone help!
What do you mean by "highlighted" exactly? Do you mean selected? If you select text, and then copy, you will be copying the selected text.
How do you SELECT multiple words that aren't in the same sentence? like how do I select THIS word and then THIS word together without selecting everything in between?
You can't in Pages. But you probably can do what you want another way ... but I'd need to know what you are trying to do to suggest something.
@@macmost ok. in MS Word, you can select multiple words anywhere in a document on Mac holding shift+command double click. what is the equivalent in Pages? Also, thank you for the tips, i just used your tips and they worked just fine. BUT i guess I want to select multiple words anywhere in a document (not in a single paragraph) and make them the same color.

Pages is NOT intuitive.
I was looking at how to add a row to a table in pages. It turns out my problem is that tables in pages cannot have more than 999 rows. Anyway, thank you for your videos. I've consulted several with great profit.
How to do this on ipad - basically i want to highlight like a highlighter on a book, and do lots of small phrase highlighting - without having to go through multiple steps
Maybe use Smart Annotation on the iPad. Click the ••• button and select Smart Annotation.

HOW DO YOU REMOVE HIGHLIGHTS AND BACKGROUND COLORS AFTER YOU'VE PASTED TEXT FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE THAT NEVER HAD TEXT. Forgive my "shouting", it's frustrating because yes Control+Shift+H is to highlight...done ... how to you remove color backgrounds PASTED from another source is what I need to know but nobody answers.
I'll bet those are not highlights, but simply a background color applied to the text. Select the text. In the right side sidebar, under Format, click the Advanced Options button. (Looks like a gear next to the B-I-U-S buttons). Then click the colors next to Text Background. Set them to none (red diagonal line).
WHAT ABOUT SELECTED ROWS ON A TABLE...NOT JUST THE TEXT? CREATED A TABLE, NEED TO PROVIDE A BACKGROUND COLOR TO SELECTED ROWS....DIFFERENT FROM THE PRESET STYLES OFFERED.

Formatting in Apple Pages/Numbers is JUST awful, love my MacPro and MacAIr BUT......how is it that their software is so terrible
