I don’t normally subscribe, as most how-to presenters waste more time than inform. The pace, presentation, and thoroughness of this video are OUTSTANDING. This sets the standard. Amazing.
Gary - as I was watching this video, I was just shaking my head at your "awesomeness" (is that a word?). You constantly amaze me as to the depth of your knowledge about all things Mac, including the native apps. This one was especially memorable. As if the collage tutorial wasn't enough (it was), one of my biggest "aha" moments was your revelation that the green button on the upper left did something more than just expand the window to full screen! I'll be using that one a lot! thank you for all you do for us Mac users. 🙏
At last! A tutorial that covers every single step and doesn't assume that I "just know" where to go and what to do! I will look at your other videos for other Mac Mysteries - thank you for the thorough coverage of this topic.
VERY VERY HELPFUL! I used to use Adobe, Pagemaker, Corel Draw, etc. etc.on a PC but moved to a Mac after retirement. I haven't really pushed myself to learn layout in Pages, but now I will since you showed me these steps. I'll experiment more. Thank you.
This was fantastic. I tried downloading an app, but it didn't allow me all the same options. Also, the resolution of my pictures was lessened in the collage. I'm sure glad I discovered your site. You know more than they do at the Apple store.
Thank you for this video! It was perfect! I'm not very tech savvy, but you really helped me create a wonderful collage as a Christmas gift for my wife! So helpful! Thank you again!
Man, exactly what I needed after a couple hours horsing around in Adobe Photo Elements. Thank you so much for making my project simple. I'm continually amazed at the power of Pages. Glad to have you here to show us the tricks!
Thank you so much, Gary! I needed to make a collage of about 80 portraits and your video came at the perfect time. I was already looking for special collage programs and now, admittedly after some trial and error, I was able to create a collage with pages that I can now update over and over again. Great!
Fantastic! I just wanted to add that in 2023 Pages now has the ability to "Export to Images" (not sure if it could do that 3 years ago or not). I was having issues with the quality of the photos diminishing after opening in Preview, etc. (looked too compressed and "blurry"). The Export to Images fixes that if you run into it and shaves off a step:-)
Gary, thank you so Much. I have been trying to decide what type of collage app to get. Problem solved. A fantastic tutorial, you covered collage making in Pages in tremendous detail- from head to toe! I just might wear out the pixels on this one. ; )
Oh my gosh! Around 11 minutes into your video you shared a tool I have been looking for! I was a hold-out for iPhoto until Catalina made me use Photos. I do like Photos - - thanks to what I have learned from you. But one thing I miss from iPhoto is the ability to create WHITE Vignettes (as opposed to only BLACK Vignettes in Photos.) White Vignettes are handy when you have a nice photo of someone but there is someone else in the photo - - and a square crop would look clunky - - or not completely cut out the other person. White Vignettes are also nicer since if you paste the photo on a white background, it creates a nice circle around the person. (With black vignettes, you will still have the square or rectangle shape that will not blend into a white background.) Now learning how to drag photos into shapes like circles or ovals, I can once again come close to creating a White vignette by making the Page a jpg since the part outside of the round shape will be white. THANKS Gary !!!
Not so easy in practice though! I'm trying to overlay logos onto photos and they're not fitting into the shapes. Might take another approach for this one, but I still really appreciate your tutuorial and will try to follow it another time.
If for some reason you see this, I've followed step by step, and at 1:46 under show rulers its not clear how to do the margins on the bottom and right sides and my computer wont let me?
Not sure what you mean by "my computer wont let me." Is there an error message? Or what? That part of the video is about putting handy rulers on the page, not margins. Use the Document button at the top right and then you can set margins in the sidebar.
Depends on your screen's resolution. Make it exactly that. But maybe use Keynote instead of Pages where it is easier to create something that is measured in pixels instead of inches/mm.
I have been writing this down, but you lost me with clicking the green button. After that, I gave up and have decided to either forgo the project or take the photos to Walmart! Simply too complicated to be worthwhile. In spite of that , your videos are terrific and so well done !
Yes, you can use Keynote. In general, it helps to start with Pages if your goal is printing, and Keynote if your goal is the screen. But the same basic tools for images are in both.
Hey Gary, another great blog this time. I love how thorough you are and explaining how to do things. I like your courses too, as they are easy to follow. Thanks for being a great contributor.
I’m putting the holiday email out for my family. I built a collage that looks great. However the amount of memory it takes is stopping me from emailing it. Do you have a handy tip for resizing my collage for email? New subscriber here for sure. Thanks for your help so far. Nice video informative.
Instead of sending it with each message as an attachment, maybe share it with an iCloud link (or DropBox or whatever you like)? That's friendlier for other people's email accounts and prevents them from using that bandwidth if they happen to look at your email while on mobile or at a bad moment. Otherwise, open it in Preview and then export as a jpeg image with more compression and maybe a smaller size.
I have to compile a dental scientific journal and I wanted to use pages as I have my Mac and had to use my fathers computer to use publisher. Thank you so much such clear and consist information 🙏🏽
Hi Gary, I'm using Pages 11.2 and not able to drag the right and bottom ruler to a 1" border. I looked around a bit and didn't see any settings that will allow this. If you or anyone can help with this question many thanks in advance. My best friend, Scrappy, died last month and want to make a collage of pictures of him. He was a once in a life time friend and miss him more with each passing day. Edit - I can drag another line from the left and top and will proceed with assumption that it will work the same.
Hi Gary, love you videos. This one and the others. Question: do you know how o can most efficiently make a picture collage for a word. E.g. DAD with pictures filling up the letters ?
@@macmost hi sir, Now i am creating book in pages file. Image increased some places, so this is affect image resolution. I need to change images resolution sir. This is possible in pages?
@@maniprabhu3198 Are the original images a higher resolution? If so, re-import them. You can use the Format, Images, Replace Image option or just start over.
When I want to print on Canon printer from pages it gives the options for a document but not for a photo. This means I can't load photo paper and the resolution will also not be as good. It is disappointing. I find doing a collage on Adobe PHoto Elements is hard too, it is hard to put a lot of photos in and then it defaults to making it automatically - no control. Any help?
If you are printing from Pages, then you are printing a document. If you want to just print a Photo, print from the Photos app, or Preview if it is a file.
Hummm… seems easier than similar projects I’ve had to do using Pixelmator Pro. Beginning to think the versatility and functionality of Pages is pretty underrated. Thanks for the great tutorial!
Tried to follow your instructions but it didn't work. When you say 'zoom out' I did 25% and it got way too small. Then when you were creating margins it worked on the left and the top but not the other sides. So now I am stuck ...

Best tutorial style - so easy to follow. This would have taken me hours to fumble through by myself. THANKS.
Gary you are my new best friend. I am learning so much with your simple, clear instructions. Thank you.

Export to images was added very recently, yes.
nice one.... now I wonder how hard it would be to add some text for each image, like year and place for example.
SO many things learned here! Thank you very much.
Thank you for this video ❤

Do you mean the margin? If so, you set that in the sidebar under Document or Section.
thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you very helpful
quite interesting... I never used Pages for anything so far. I either use Ms Office or Liberoffice. This video made me think of this option ....

Hi sir
I have one question sir; How to change image resolution in pages app? Please explain to me sir
Not sure what you mean. You can't alter the resolution of an image in Pages. What are you trying to do, exactly?

Great tutorial!
I want to transfer the photos to my phone and they become blurred, I want high definition how to get this
How are you transferring them, exactly?

I still didn’t understand, how you went to the page page? The template one?
