    Color coordinated machines, dimmable lighting in 3 zones and an insane amount of outlets. Nate, you've built my dream workshop.

    This makes me happy to see. I seem to remember a long time ago, you had done a couple knifemaking vids and mentioned it was a hobby you really enjoyed and would like to get deeper into. Glad you're getting the chance finally.

    Not gonna lie: abundance of outlets is my favorite part of the tour. When you've lived in a house that has rooms with only two or three places to plug stuff in, you really learn to appreciate that convenience.

    • @garethbaus5471
      @garethbaus5471 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Large numbers of outlets are also kind of a safety feature, people aren't likely to resort to sketchy extension cords if an outlet is already right there.

    You have a great workspace! The only things I would add that I didn't see are a cross slide vice on the drill press, and (might just be my machinist background talking, but...) a Sherline mill/ lathe setup for making custom bolts, milling Neely locker slots, making and modifying other tools. I also found that a small table saw was really handy. Almost as versatile as a drill press (or less precise vertical lathe with a cross slide vice) or lathe (maker of itself)!

    A couple things: the slanted pegboard under the bench is a GREAT idea; normally pegboard is mounted vertical and IMO works poorly-I will be totally integrating that idea. And, having each outlet labeled as to the circuit is brilliant; it is SO frustrating when you blow a circuit or need to service one and have no idea at the breaker box, and WAY simpler to label the sockets instead of the box (which still can be done generically).

    I wonder if it's possible (definitely not safe) to make a knife for every metallic element (off the periodic chart)?
    I know that a couple of them can explode, and some have radioactive properties...but think it would be cool to have a huge knife block (in the shape of the periodic element [metallic portion] chart) .
    Maybe an over ambitious project?

    Great job describing your shop. I would like to know what the room was.part of. I need to get my shop.or garage in order. I also can't wait to see how your plan to make your knives if your not using a forge. Knife making is some I wanted to get into but, thought the forging may.be to.much work with all.the hamming. It seem.more simple to just cut something from an old saw blade and shape.it. I don't know you tell.me.what you think. By the way I support you and TKOR too. It's all.about creativity for me not any one particular person.

    Nate. I have a question mate and I think you are the guy to help me. I have been making a sword and I'm ready to make the pomel,
    I wanted to cast a copper ball to make the pomel out of.
    So I made a back yard Fordge out of an old gass bottle, perlite, and clay.
    I have a big metal pipe with a hairdryer on it to provide the air flow and I have just been using charcol/coke to fuel the fire.
    But when I melted the copper I got it liquid but as I added more the whole thing just turned to dross and didn't flow at all it was a huge failure. I used borax as a flux. I wondered if you had any tips or tricks as I know you have experience melting copper and I thought you would like the project as it is a knife/sword build. If you have any advice please let me know and if you want to see any pictures of my build or set up I will email them to you . I think you will find it interesting.
