- I love working with actors to create artistic headshot photography that helps them make connections when they need it most.
In this video I talk about the background to my work, what I look for in a headshot, how I work with actors to help them get those dream roles.

Interesting background. Very similar to my journey with photography. The pandemic got me back into it as well.
Love the gentle pacing/vibe of your video. Lovely info. Subscribed.
Thank you!
Loved the bit where you were focusing with the lens cap on:)
How else do you take a photo fo the inside of a lens cap? Surely not out of focus?
@@tomtrevatt3286 true:)
Enjoyed this a lot along with your talk on the different cameras and what you like about them.
Super comprehensive walkthrough of your headshot process. Thanks for making the video!
Great to hear you found it useful. Is there anything you think I could add to the next viddeo I make?
Nice video, Tom - thanks! Can you tell me about that (c-stand) camera mount you are using (e.g. at 0:49) - it looks pretty useful.
I’m the 9th subscriber, I’m happy that I found this gold content at it’s germination…
Aww...thank you!

before it gets squarespaced :-)
At what distance do you shoot? Also, please do a more detailed step by step video explaining how you take and edit actor headshots 🙏🏻 this is the first video I see where the photographer actually understands what an actor needs to portray in a headshot instead of just taking a photo and call it a day (like most places do) which results in me hating the final photos…please do help me and others out!
Hiii...I don't have a set distance I shoot at, but usually because I'm working with a 85mm prime lens, I would be moving around to get lose ups and then looser shots. And thank you, I will be making more videos in the future. Hope you can tune in :)

My workhorse camera!
Tom: Thanks so much for this. It was as enjoyable as it was informative. Teaching on many levels. Great BGM and great mood. Conducive to learning. Bravo!
Thank you! Thats great to hear :)
Really enjoyed this video. Lined and follow on insta, like the ideas around your pricing - different, and most importantly love your images! All the best (y)
Thank you so much!
Inspiring, thank you for sharing, I been shooting for a while since the latest 80s and trying to given up, but it’s keeps getting back, I really think it’s part of my nature, you got amazing shots keep shooting with the Mamiya .
Dope work Tom, thanks for sharing. Also, whats that up and down sliding thing you got the camera on ? i think i NEEEED it
Thank you! Thats a studio stand from Pixapro, but other brands are available ;)
Good one

Very kind! Thank you
Great video Tom!
Thank you!
Wow, incredibly well done video and very useful information for aspiring photographers.
That's very kind thank you
Nice portrait work and advice !
Actually find how you use your c-stand very interesting for fixing your camera
It's a studio stand from Pixapro :)
Thats was so nice to see, love all the information. How do you compare the zeiss 85 with the canon FD, i mean for sure the Zeiss is sharper and has more contrast, and the Canon its dreamier, how do you choose between then? and why?
That was very interesting. Thank you for sharing your art.
I have a steanoauestuin maybe. What is your tripod on wheels? 😅
Great stuff !!! Love the work displayed in this video, and the approach to the work. Also, like your pricing method (shoot cost separate from individual selected shots).
Thank you so much!
He makes a great point about actors who have been acting no longer use photos that are done in the typical headshot way that photographers who do headshots have claimed for a long time to be so crucial in getting acting jobs.
The school principal guy isn't getting cast for that role and not the heart throb because he spent $2K on cookie cutter headshots that are only showing how he looks.
He gets considered for that role because he looks like a school principal and doesn't look like a heart throb. And the typical headshot way was never doing anything to convey anything more.
This video is reminding of the woman who struggled to get jobs and call backs, until she came up with the idea to pose as an agent and started cold calling casting directors using a fake British accent and hyping herself up.
She started getting call backs and started getting jobs. Worked very well until somebody found out that the British agent was actually her. Word got around and then they tried ostracizing her.
I believe him when he says that using photos that look like they are from magazine interviews of people who have been acting will work better than the typical overpriced and overhyped "this is what you look like" headshots.
Totally, headshots are more than just "this is what I look like" photographs
Well she was dishonest.
@@unbroken1010 Well, she was acting for one. And really ended up getting hired for her skills. Which was supposedly what casting directors were looking for in the first place.
Secondly, she indulged other people's pretentiousness. And it wasn't her lack of acting skills or that she was being dishonest for the reason for the backlash.
It was that pretentious people were forced to face up to their pretentiousness.
@@gregorylagrange sounds like a whole lot of pretentious from all of hollyweird to go around
@@unbroken1010 Well what would you call it for somebody to struggle getting cast for roles, then to suddenly start getting them because people think she has a British agent?
Great insight :)
I do the same with pricing. The flat rate is for the session, then pay per image. It’s been really good for me to build confidence with accepting people’s money as I’m just only starting to do photography as more than merely a hobby.
Keep it up!
Thank you very much for sharing your way of working. What wonderful photos. What adapters do you use to connect the Zeiss lenses to the Fuji camera?
Thank you so much. The adapter is a Fringer.
Great content Tom, do you have a go to apeture for headshots.
Not really...it changes, but I don't usually go above f3.5
Tom thanks for sharing. What stand are you using for you camera. Thats infinitely better than the tripod I use in studio with my gfx
Pixapro studio stand :)
@@tomtrevatt3286 AWESOME!!!! Thanks alot
Awesome video, thank you to share your work. As a french portrait photographer it's very interesting and source of inspiration.
What presets are you using ? is it a pack ? where did you buy it ? 🤩
Thank you so much. No presets, I get about 90% of what I need in camera and then do a light edit in Ps and Lr
@@tomtrevatt3286 Thank you Tom :)
Do you come to the US? Very helpful info!
