Really great, interesting video. Portrait and headshot photography is where I want to push my own work, so this was really insightful.
Man, you were born for this woek. What an incredible talent
Thank you so much, that;s so sweet!
Do you come to the US? Very helpful info!
Where in the US? I'df love to visit and have friends in lots of cities :)
Super comprehensive walkthrough of your headshot process. Thanks for making the video!
Great to hear you found it useful. Is there anything you think I could add to the next viddeo I make?
Interesting background. Very similar to my journey with photography. The pandemic got me back into it as well.
Really enjoyed this video. Lined and follow on insta, like the ideas around your pricing - different, and most importantly love your images! All the best (y)
Thank you so much!
Enjoyed this a lot along with your talk on the different cameras and what you like about them.
Great video. Straight forward and nice calm aesthetics. Subscriber #499
Love the gentle pacing/vibe of your video. Lovely info. Subscribed.
Thank you!
Nice video, Tom - thanks! Can you tell me about that (c-stand) camera mount you are using (e.g. at 0:49) - it looks pretty useful.
Good one
Loved the bit where you were focusing with the lens cap on:)
How else do you take a photo fo the inside of a lens cap? Surely not out of focus?
@@tomtrevatt3286 true:)
This is good insight.
Thats was so nice to see, love all the information. How do you compare the zeiss 85 with the canon FD, i mean for sure the Zeiss is sharper and has more contrast, and the Canon its dreamier, how do you choose between then? and why?
Tom: Thanks so much for this. It was as enjoyable as it was informative. Teaching on many levels. Great BGM and great mood. Conducive to learning. Bravo!
Thank you! Thats great to hear :)
Man , props but Hollyweird making some awful films .
Quality as always!
Great conversation.
good talk.... ty!
Great podcast Tom
Very local
Great stuff!
I was wondering if you could have time to mentor me, I really appreciate you!
Yes, of course. Find me on instagram and shoot me a DM
Inspiring, thank you for sharing, I been shooting for a while since the latest 80s and trying to given up, but it’s keeps getting back, I really think it’s part of my nature, you got amazing shots keep shooting with the Mamiya .
Great insight :) I do the same with pricing. The flat rate is for the session, then pay per image. It’s been really good for me to build confidence with accepting people’s money as I’m just only starting to do photography as more than merely a hobby.
Keep it up!
That was very interesting. Thank you for sharing your art. I have a steanoauestuin maybe. What is your tripod on wheels? 😅
What a fabulous interview ❤❤ an "Artistic Alchemist" brilliant ...
Absolutely, and a solid gent too!
Absolutely brillinat episode! Thank you both, two of my fave artists just chattin shop!
Thank you so much for tuning in! I hope you got a lot out of it. I certianly did!
Great production quality. I'll be checking this out.
Great stuff !!! Love the work displayed in this video, and the approach to the work. Also, like your pricing method (shoot cost separate from individual selected shots).
Thank you so much!
At what distance do you shoot? Also, please do a more detailed step by step video explaining how you take and edit actor headshots 🙏🏻 this is the first video I see where the photographer actually understands what an actor needs to portray in a headshot instead of just taking a photo and call it a day (like most places do) which results in me hating the final photos…please do help me and others out!
Hiii...I don't have a set distance I shoot at, but usually because I'm working with a 85mm prime lens, I would be moving around to get lose ups and then looser shots. And thank you, I will be making more videos in the future. Hope you can tune in :)
So you want someone to do your job for you? Get in a studio and start learning
Dope work Tom, thanks for sharing. Also, whats that up and down sliding thing you got the camera on ? i think i NEEEED it
Thank you! Thats a studio stand from Pixapro, but other brands are available ;)
Best convo so far, keep it up Tom!
I really enjoyed this conversation! Robyn is soo inspiring. And you Tom, as well. You've done soo much and built your photography business in such a short space of time.

Great chat! I tried commenting earlier but it didn’t save for some reason. I resonate with Sean’s sensibilities & style & advice. Both of your advice actually. Thanks for sharing your talents/thoughts.
Hey, thanks for the comment. Sean is an incredible photographer-with a style and approach that we can all learn from. I'm pleased you enjoyed the episode. More to come... Cheers.

Very kind! Thank you
He makes a great point about actors who have been acting no longer use photos that are done in the typical headshot way that photographers who do headshots have claimed for a long time to be so crucial in getting acting jobs. The school principal guy isn't getting cast for that role and not the heart throb because he spent $2K on cookie cutter headshots that are only showing how he looks. He gets considered for that role because he looks like a school principal and doesn't look like a heart throb. And the typical headshot way was never doing anything to convey anything more. This video is reminding of the woman who struggled to get jobs and call backs, until she came up with the idea to pose as an agent and started cold calling casting directors using a fake British accent and hyping herself up. She started getting call backs and started getting jobs. Worked very well until somebody found out that the British agent was actually her. Word got around and then they tried ostracizing her. I believe him when he says that using photos that look like they are from magazine interviews of people who have been acting will work better than the typical overpriced and overhyped "this is what you look like" headshots.
Totally, headshots are more than just "this is what I look like" photographs
Well she was dishonest.
@@unbroken1010 Well, she was acting for one. And really ended up getting hired for her skills. Which was supposedly what casting directors were looking for in the first place. Secondly, she indulged other people's pretentiousness. And it wasn't her lack of acting skills or that she was being dishonest for the reason for the backlash. It was that pretentious people were forced to face up to their pretentiousness.
@@gregorylagrange sounds like a whole lot of pretentious from all of hollyweird to go around
@@unbroken1010 Well what would you call it for somebody to struggle getting cast for roles, then to suddenly start getting them because people think she has a British agent?
Superb conversation. Love the bit on philosophy. I also realise that it really alters your perspective. Great podcast!
Thanks so much, Mike! I loved delving into the philosophical discussion with Huan. He's got some tremendous insights. Thanks for watching.
Great conversation. Good luck with the studio Jacqui. My best friend works a few hundred yards away so next time I'm in Brighton I'll pop in 🙂
Thank you Steve
We love Jacqui's strong character and determination, mixed with her humility! Love hearing about her forward moving journey and transitions.
Absolutley
Love this conversation! Thanks, Jacqui and Tom for being so open and thoughtful about the life of photography! I've been feeling the need for a change of studio space! 122 softbox is the best!! 😂
Thank you so much Aaron, so glad you enjoyed the chat
Really lovely to hear the conversation here. Thank you!
Thanks for tuning in, Bimal. It was a great convo and nice we could share it with so many photographers. Cheers.
Such a great conversation and it's encouraging to hear about Dwayne's journey and how he's kept the joy of photography at the heart of his business for so long. Photography isn't an easy career and it's great to hear his perspective and how he keeps community at the center of his craft. Beautiful chat, thanks Tom for creating and sharing this!
I appreciate you tuning in, Aaron. Let's keep the stories coming, eh!
Wonderful podacast, such relevant and insightful content, thank you!
Thanks so much for listening, Mod.
Thanks Mod! We're super proud to have you a part of Headshots Matter!
Awesome video, thank you to share your work. As a french portrait photographer it's very interesting and source of inspiration. What presets are you using ? is it a pack ? where did you buy it ? 🤩
Thank you so much. No presets, I get about 90% of what I need in camera and then do a light edit in Ps and Lr
@@tomtrevatt3286 Thank you Tom :)
Enjoyed the video, really good content! Thanks Tom.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you very much for sharing your way of working. What wonderful photos. What adapters do you use to connect the Zeiss lenses to the Fuji camera?
Thank you so much. The adapter is a Fringer.
