Me Made Wardrobe Review Spring 2022

  • I've never pulled together all of my Me-Made clothes, so what better time than the spring?! Let's get super judge-y and talk about the good, bad, and UGLY of all of the clothes I've made for myself. My sewing journey has been fairly short, but I think I've put together quite a collection that I'm excited to share with you.
    Let me know what you think. What was your favorite piece, and which one should I pretend I didn't make?
    Thanks!

    I agree, the yellow dress might be wonderful if dyed a color you love.

    The linen skirt is spectacular! And over time, the more you wash and wear it, the drapier it will get.

    You have been sewing for a short time, but, you sew very bravely, and that is a big part of why you are doing so well. Congrats, keep sewing.

    I found your channel because of that blue wrap dress. As a 40-year-old lazy casual sewer, it can be tough finding sewing channels that make stuff I actually wanna wear! That white wrap dress is the stuff of fairy tales, I’m literally going to look for that pattern as soon as I’m done writing this comment, after which I’ll be looking for the Jess Dang overalls tutorial. I’ve got tons of bedsheets and thrifted fabric stashed and I’ve had major decision paralysis and your videos may have broken that paralysis. So thank you!!

      It sounds like you and I are crafter twins because I'm pretty sure I've had the same thoughts! I'm glad you're finding something worth watching!

    Lovely wardrobe! The cloak is magnificent, although I loved the wrap dresses the best. And, yes, dye the yellow dress a jewel tone - and keep the faith. You’re really inspiring all of us!

    Try dying that beige dress. maybe a warm earthy green, or autumnal red or rich brown. But it is an excellent fit and style for you.

      I wanted to dye it green but I couldn't find it in any stores in my area, and my impatient self didn't want to wait for it to be shipped so I dyed it eggplant purple. I made a vid for it, but I am IN LOVE with the color!

    Love the fall colored damasque(?) Robe/top its very pretty! Ooh and the grey dress turned out cute! And the queen's gambit pinafore! 😍 ooh the yallow dress is so flattering! I do hope if you dyed it or something you'd get even more wear out of it it's such a cute design!

    I actually really loved the first dress (dark green t-shirt fabric) because it draped so nicely - but of course we couldn't see the wonky neckline etc. XD

    Fabrics matter! Most patterns would look completely different with fabric that better suits the model of your make... Circle skirts generally don't have pockets. If you Do want them, go with a (cotton) lining in the side seam. Your fabric is way to bulky, and seams seem unpressed,so yeah, it will not lie flat 🤔👀😁

  • @jacqpot9413
    @jacqpot9413 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The yellow dress does fit really well. I think a bit more color would probably look more flattering on you, but it seems like that solid would be a great candidate for dying. Loved your makes and your analysis.

      OMG, I LOVE the idea of dying it! I can't believe I didn't think of it but you may have just given me the next video idea!

    • @isorna2456
      @isorna2456 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great idea, green would be my choice for it.
      Not sure what types of dye are available in the US but the ones I have available doesn’t change the color of polyester, which most thread Is made of. That can be considered a feature, especially if you keep some of the yellowish details.

    I just found your channel a couple days ago (I don't remember how) and want to binge watch everything you've made! It's very relatable. I love the cloak! That makes me extra excited. I showed my husband a part in another video you made and he recognized the D20 on the wall, which i didn't. 😄
    Anyway, excited for you to continue making videos! And clothes!!

    Love, love, love the pinafore dress at 12:49! It's magnificent and so flattering. I also love the kimono you made a video on. Bravissima to you for sitting down and creating all these garments! Talk is cheap, but you put your sewing machine to work with great effect. Great job!

    The green overalls are ADORABLE! I wonder what a drawstring might look like at the waist?
    I agree w/the other comment of dying the yellow dress.

    That was entertaining: subscribed! And now I’m feeling inspired to make something with an old Ikea duvet cover I’ve been saving…
    I really liked the second jumpsuit and the long skirt. And the gambit dress was chef’s kiss.
    For the circle skirt pocket problem, try wearing a separate pocket tied around your waist underneath the skirt, with a slit in the skirt’s side seam through which to access it. A facing underneath the slit, like that behind a trouser fly, could stop anything showing through if the slit opens slightly during wear. That way you lose both the bulk of the pocket as well as the drag on the seam, so the skirt would hang evenly, and you only need one pocket to go with all your circle skirts. Alternatively, wear the pocket outside the skirt as an accessory: there are lots of highly decorated historical pockets, even though they weren’t meant to be seen, so there’s plenty of inspiration out there.

    I love that you are rating your makes, but I think what is missing is your enjoyment/pleasure factor out of 10 because how much you like it and how it makes you feel, really it is the most important anyway. As it is, your numbers don't match your overall number, but you justify your number by talking about how much you enjoy wearing it, and it would add up if you include your enjoyment factor. You really sew beautiful things. I liked all your makes. Just some maybe aren't your style.

    Hi Katie, just found your channel and love love love this video 😊 Love the scoring process, was kinda like the "Me-made Olympics" or something. I like the jumpsuits and the Gambit Pinafore best of all, but all your makes turned out great, even the 'fabric tube'. Because we all need a loungey dress to wear from time to time. Thanks for sharing your makes! Angela

    My favorites are your upholstery fabric skirt and the Queen's Gambit pinafore dress. You're right, we're our own worst critic. My makes are usually better fit and quality than what I'd buy, but I never criticize the store bought in the same way I criticize my makes.

    • @KatieMakesStuff
      @KatieMakesStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But have you found that you're a lot more picky about clothes that you buy? I find myself thinking I could make it myself with better fabrics and better fit.

      @@KatieMakesStuff Absolutely! I learned to sew because I wasn't happy with the fabrics and fit of store bought garments.

    That was quite brave and entertaining both. My favorite might be the print from the free Mood pattern but really the yellow was outstanding also. My least favorite was the soon to be discarded or remade gathered skirt. Way too bulky at the waist even if you are skinny. Has anyone told you that you look radiant in the red cape? I don't know if it is your coloring or a part of your nature that comes out!
