DO NOT skip the first step. After you do step 1 and determine your hair length, tie that hair back for the rest of the cut and DO NOT LET IT FREE until she says "moving on to the final step"; at this point, your length is completely safe from accidentally being chopped too short.
For those who are lost, when she cuts "the back section of her hair", I believe she is referring to the TOP HALF of the back section (the obvious section that hasn't been layered by that point).
This technique truly is perfect, and I kept my length exactly where I wanted it while getting perfectly layered hair! A big plus that this saved me $80 today, and thousands more as I never see myself going back to a salon after learning how to do this!
Reminder: your fingers that are guiding should be perpendicular to your middle part (parallell to your face).

This made so much sense! No wonder i lost length the last time i followed this tutorial. It turned out soo good but the length was shorter. I rewatched it and realized she doesn't cut the length part. Thankyouu! 💕

    • @IceQueen234
      @IceQueen234 ปีที่แล้ว

I've definitely saved money from this amazing video.
However I feel like a step is missed when she is cutting the length of the hair the very start, as she only does the bottom half of the back section and not the top (only touches it when doing the front)
And now my hair is a completely shorter length at the bottom back section.
I've done 3 times now I think and this is the first time I've done messed up and don't know how hahahah!

I just did this 5 minutes ago and I’m so happy I did! I haven’t had my hair cut in 3 years and just couldn’t stomach the idea of going to a salon, paying $150, and hating the cut. I figured I’d give a shot, if it turned out terrible I’d still have plenty of length left to have a professional fix it. Well, it turned out beautiful! Thank you sooo much!❤

Although I had to pause several times because it was my first attempt ever to cut my own hair. The results are amazing!!! I am honestly in shock. I cut off about 12 inches and this tutorial worked great, even for a shorter desire. Thank you for sharing this! Lately I have been super depressed and felt the need to want a change but paying over $100.00 right now for a hair cut is just not in the budget. So thank you!

For anyone who would like to give it a shot, go ahead garlssss!!!! Tho cutting longer hair (mine to the waist) is easier than short hair. And take your time!!! I usually do not comment on videos, but I have to this time. So I'm an absolute noob at cutting my own hair and messed it up several times in the past. The last time I got a professional hair cut done the lady just destroyed the haircut and cut it 3-4 inches shorter than what I wanted and had very short layers. I just wanna say that I followed this tutorial (because I like stupid things to myself) and my goodness this is amazing!! I think I have given a better haircut to myself than my hair dresser could ever do. I'm absolutely in love and I'll always following this. Saving this video for life! Anyone who wants to try cutting their own hair, girls this is the video you are looking for.

What you just explained is the reason I’ll never go to the hairdresser again they just don’t know how to cut !!! Always cut it wrong and most of all too short. The last time I went in August 2019 he just butchered my hair it took me two years now to grow it long. Now I’m cutting it on my own and it comes out perfect every time. I cut as little as I want as often as I want and it’s free and the results are great 👍

This tutorial is the best. If I knew it were this easy to do with a systematic approach I would have cut my hair a long time ago. I had attempted bang trims in the past with seriously botched results. Once I finished in an hour, I proudly showed my husband and he was very impressed. He strongly advised against it given my past failures but I assured him I'd studied up this method and watched the video 5 times. This is the most confident I have ever felt after a haircut and I did it myself:-) I read a great many of the other reviews and I skipped step 1 entirely and went for the half inch center part to start the layers. I'm pleased with the results.

My hair is curly (3A) and that had me doubting because Olive’s hair is straight but I knew I wanted a layered haircut because I wanted more shape and volume (something like Julia Roberts in My best friend’s wedding) so I gave it a shot, and it is the best bet I could have ever taken. For my curly girls out there, go for it! I am incredibly happy with the result, thanks for this tutorial!

I’m a cosmetology student atm, and have been cutting long layers like no tomorrow. Lol. But this technique basically covers what we learned, of course in different technique. The only other thing we do is point cut the shortest layer with the longest layer in vertical sections. I’m impressed for an at home haircut.

This was great! Slight warning for anyone else who has really thin and delicate hair. I have so much less hair that it was difficult to find the guide! Had to do larger sections after the initial shock, and then managed to do this. Though at some points I was just guessing 😅 I have naturally curly hair as well, making this more tricky but it also hides the mistakes somewhat. Plus you need a MIRROR! Two so that you can check the partings on the back of your head.

I love the turn out💕💖 so much body! I've never had long layers! My hair has always been long to my bottom with no layers. It just looked flat. This cut helped me keep length , while still adding boddy and volume. It also is so weightless💖 my scalp feels so much better!

Hi I followed step by step and got beautiful results!! 😍 I pay 25 bucks and my hair is flat no volume and I feel like I just went to a salon!! I have never cut my hair before and I was extremely nervous but kept following each step and my hair has volume and looks so healthy now!! I did cut more than I wanted but I think I needed it because my hair was damaged and weighed down. You are amazing and I appreciate this video!! Blessings 🌺

I did this haircut about a year ago and my hair looked so good and it also grew so much. It got so long that I couldn’t trim it myself because my arms weren’t long enough. I asked my niece to try cutting my hair since I wasn’t going back to the salon and paying and she butchered it. It was so bad. I didn’t say anything because
She took a lot of the unreachable length off and it wasn’t her fault I forced her to cut my hair. I came home and cut my hair using this video again finding all the places that were uneven and it fixed the whole mess. It’s a little shorter than I wanted it but it’s still an amazing cut.

Just used this tutorial and got the perfect voluminous layered hair! I have cut my hair before but this definitely gave me the most polished cut ever. it looks more confusing than it is, by the time you start, it’s actually not so complicated! I went quite a bit shorter than she did and it came out great! THE ONLY WARNING I WOULD GIVE IS: the very bottom layer she cut first in the video might be easier to cut at the end of ur haircut. I cut the bottom layer first and i ended up messing it up somehow (it looked uneven next to my other layers, throwing off the overall “V” shape of my hair) 😭😭 I may not be the best at eye calculating measurements, but a few clean up cuts at the end just to match everything up and all was well - it looked perfect, I was actually shocked at how easy it was to correct! Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial!

Omg I did it !! I loveedd the end result!! Defined adds alot of body and movement to hair !! I highly recommend to anyone with wavy or any kind of textured hair! :) only thing I will say is it's an arm workout and the hair used as a guide was very confusing at times. Other than that I'm super happy ! Thanks love

I just want to say thank you so much for this video! I would pause and rewatch each cutting section to make sure I was doing it right. Almost gave up after the bottom part because I wanted to cut off 8 inches of length because my hair had gotten up to my hips and was too heavy and thick to manage. I thought I already messed it up, stopped and considered doing to wolf cut but thank god I didn’t. I resectioned and continued with the video. I love the results. I have the overall length of hair I wanted. The only think I didn’t do was the face framing later because I did really paranoid when hair that is close to my face is short since I have a round face and chubby cheeks that I’ve never been able to get rid of. Again thank you again for this tutorial, I’ll definitely be using this again and again in the future!

I was already cutting my hair myself, since I got disappointed by my hair stylist who charged me $100+ for nothing, but this video will level up my haircut. I can't wait to try it tonight.
I have a similar hair to you, so I hope it looks as good as yours :)

I started cutting my own hair after a botched curly dry cut in 2021. I realized I could do better than most of the $100 cuts I was paying for. Then last winter, I decided to start growing my hair out, and start straightening it again. It recently finally got long enough that I could add layers for straightening. I watched the beginning of this video, skipped to the end, and decided to go for it because my hair is about the same thickness as the creator’s. I blindly watched to the whole thing from start to finish as I cut. My cut ended up perfect, given the shortest length I picked from the start. It’s a symmetrical U, almost V shape in the back, and has lovely layers in the front. I think as I grow my hair out more and cut again in six months, I will simply pick the starting piece and trim only the dead ends and go from there, so the same shape just grows longer over time. The cut reminds me so much of the cut I had in high school back in the late 90s, which is basically back in style, and it does really well with a blowout styling too. Thanks for this awesome tutorial!!

IMPORTANT: hold the hair perpendicular to your middle part (parallel to your face).
I was about halfway through my haircut before I realized I was holding the hair wrong. Had to cut my hair shorter to correct this. Otherwise, it’s a pretty nice result. I’ll try again when this grows out and see if I can get it right

Same happened to me. I don't think it was clear that you twist the hair 90° before dropping your hands when you're mostly listening during the process and i definitely messed this up with no time to fix it now🤦🏻‍♀️
