    This haircut was done years before Brad Mondo ever came onto it and it took him several tries to refine. I first saw it done by a nice Midwestern woman sometime around 2015 and it was a short and sweet demo on really long hair. I’ve been cutting my hair myself ever since with a few refinements from a nice Filipino hairdresser to give it more definition on the sides. It’s simple and looks great. My hair has grown out, is healthy, and I never leave crying.

I have just done this one and it looks amazing 🤩 my hair feels so much healthier and also I like the waves that this haircut gives. I have done the butterfly haircut on myself 3 x in the last 30 days, only because I didn’t want to cut too much off! I even had a moment or I thought maybe I should just go get a haircut, but knowing that they charge an arm and a leg now for anything past the shoulders
    And I’ve had horrible hair that I’ve paid $100 and had to go back and get fixed
    This simple process and cutting your own hair or giving yourself fresh new layers again literally makes me want to go to the hair salon again
    I’m already completely over trying to lighten my hair the last time I light my hair salon and spent almost $500 getting a balayage, but the woman ended up giving me highlights on top of that
    Which is why I realized she charged me so much
    I’m just really turned off by hairdressers these days

    I laughed sooo hard when you started shaking the head omg 🤣 cracked me up. But I’ve never done a cut on myself before so I would have needed to see the actual parts and how the ponytails were put in there and a comparison of a before and after picture. I didn’t like the ends and how they came to a “V” shape and are scraggly. Does this cut make the hair go into a “V” or is the mannequin like that already? Cute video!! Thank you!!

    The third ponytail wasn't sure if it's just the top middle section, wish you could've shown more how it was sectioned. But nonetheless, I think I have a good idea. I used to do this cut a lot and in 3 sections but the second ponytail I would divide it like passing my fingers at the top of my ears to the back, but the way you did it makes more sense and gives more structure. The way I did it, gave more of an "emo" type of look.😅

    @Paulwattshair Hi! If you dont mind me asking, how does this hidden ponytail cut differ from the hidden butterfly cut where you have a ponytail on top of the head (with hidden ponytail), and a ponytail on the forehead (with hidden ponytail)? I have very fine hair past my waist and im trying to figure out the best method or combination of your methods! I would love the result to make my hair look as thick and full as possible without losing length. I love the look of wild, tapered rock n roll looking hair, ... I love the base in a tapered V shape, but i still need all my layers to be long, esp since my hair is so fine, and also, i do not like that mullet type of look where the front layers are short and shelf-like lol. I wouid like some face framing layers, but not going too deep into the rest of the hair, becasue that will also take away from the density of the rest of my fine hair. So basically I would love a long layered voluminous look on my waist length hair, (that will keep the length) with a few face framing layers (so i have a few pieces to pull down to make a ponytail or updo look prettier). From your expertise, which of your methods or combination of methods (this one, the original hidden butterfly one, or even the one where you put one ponytail on the very top of the head) do you recommend? Ive been trying to figure out and predict the outcome with each of these or with trying to incorporate a few of these methods, but im so confused and really need your help! Thank you!!

    • @meinkanta
      @meinkanta 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m in a similar situation (fine hair, somewhere between waist and hip length) and want some layering and face framing but worried about ending up too thin. What I think I’m going to do is the modified version I saw by Christina Marie where she does the 2 ponytail method, but leaving out the bottom layer of the hair so that the bottom doesn’t end up too thin/tapered/not such an aggressive V, and also she cuts at an angle rather than straight so the layering isn’t as short/dramatic. And I’m not going to take loads off, can use the bits I left out as a guide for how short I can go without losing much length. And then I’m going to do some shorter face framing pieces at the front and blend them in rather than doing the entire front ponytail really short, as I can’t afford to lose that much density

    • @SG-qy1ne
      @SG-qy1ne 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@meinkanta Thanks for replying! Sounds like you and I are thinking along the same lines! I have also watched Christina Marie and her hair turned out gorgeous, although she has probably 10x the amount that I do! I do like the idea though of leaving that bottom layer out, esp because with my hair being so fine, I don't think that layer is def the length, I think some of my length comes from a little higher up if that makes sense, so at least leaving that bottom layer out will preserve something just in case all goes wrong! Have you watched Paul's video where all the hair is pulled up on top of the head (not on the forehead or above the eyebrows) into one ponytail? I'm wondering what the results of that would be ( pulling everything/cutting straight up) instead of over directing one (unicorn) or both (butterfly) ponytails to the front? I'm not very good with visualization, but I think the single ponytail on the top high point of head might be safer since the front pieces have to travel further , possibly avoiding any disconnection in the front and possible shelf like layers....that what im really afraid of, because I don't have enough density for mistakes😂. Please keep me posted with your thoughts and hopefully we can figure something out together...but I do think we are on the right track with Christina's modified version!

      @@meinkanta The video I mentioned in the above comment so you can reference it is How to cut Voluminous Layers 2024, it's from 3 months ago. What I like about that one is he takes so little off, but it makes such a difference. So I wonder if it would be safer to start with that one and go from there. The only thing that concerns me with that one is that Paul mentions that that cut is more of round layers, and in my research I have read that square layers are better for finer hair. So I just left a comment on that video asking Paul if there is a way to modify the way the hair is held/angle of the cut to make the layers square. I hope he sees it and can help us! But I'm curious as to what your opinion is too!

    I llve your humor. Especially the part when you talk about how stylist always fussing with the hair after the cut telling you how gorgeous it looks 😂. I always know its for show but I cant help but love the drama. Completely unessary hair fondling.

    Everyone point cuts but my ends gets so frizzy with no definition when they inevitably try to do that on my hair.

      Yeah so just don’t do it. Your layers will beautifully feather out laying nicely any way. I hate point cutting and when hairstylists have done it. Ultimately you know your hair best and how it reacts to ways it’s cut and the products it likes or doesn’t like. You got this!

    Why did the first longest layer look so frazzled on the ends?
