Had a older lawn boy commercial mower that I picked up and the recoil didn’t engage and all it needed was a new pawl on the recoil starter. I see things like this more often then not. Great video!
To reinstall the Honda carb and the myriad collection of things that go with it, I use 6m threaded rod into the block and put the pieces on one by one. You could use 2 pieces leave them threaded into the block and with 2 6m nuts and throw those long screws away!! As for that choke system, I usually take the linkage off and turn it into a manual choke.
Yes, I had an easy fix few years ago. Just cleaned the fuel filter and it worked. I did spend some time checking a few fuel and ignition but again, a clogged fuel filter was the culprit. It only ran when I primed it manually. Thanks again for a detailed happy ending video! 😊
got a honda hrr2169vka... for 25$. the seller couldnt get the self propel to work and was just sick of it after 2 years. took it home, took it apart, and turned out a wood chip was wedged btwn the belt and the transmission. He did try to fix it by taking off the wheels lost the metal gear and the whole assembly that goes on Honda rear wheels. parts were around 10$ + shipping = around 20$. got the parts, assembled the rear wheel . it started right up and after adjusting the cables the self propel worked seamlessly. still , replaced the oil , put gas in - about 5$ it was only 2 years old at the time and the seller may have used it .. 10x max. I now had a nearly brand new Honda HRR216VKA for 50$. and have used it for the last 4 years. I LOVE that mower.
I just got a used Honda mower with the same issue. The owner took the wheel apart and installed it wrong. The drive gear was chewed up. I ordered new thrust washers and a gear. When installed correctly, it is amazing. Lol.
Good score! I haven’t had that kind of luck in finding something with a simple fix. I currently have three of these Honda 160’s with that style of choke system and couldn’t agree more. They are a pain in the ass!! Cheers
So somebody bought a Honda push mower... pretty much the Lexus of push mowers... and then put in a cheap aftermarket spark plug? It looks like they changed the oil and air filter, but left the old plug? Wow! Great find, and great fix! Congrats.
i must say, based on your knowledge of these things, you at good at what you do, and to get stuff that needs a simple fix, you can make an easy buck, keep up the good work .....
I picked up a barely used snowblower once. Owner said he tried everything but could not get it to run. I think I gave him $20 for it. Even though it was like new, I found the spark plug was faulty. Put in a new one and it started on the first pull. I sold that machine for a few hundred dollars, so it was a great find for me.
A faulty spark plug, gotta love it when it's a cheap fix! Cheapest fix (not counting the free fixes) for me was the carburetor gaskets on a small power washer. Total cost was about $3 back in 2015.
I got 2 mowers from my customer. One needed the kill cable and wouldn't stay running so I clean the jet in the carb and runs great. Other mower was leaking at the bowl and needed a wheel. Runs great and are for sale.
Great video, crazy all that was wrong with it was a bad spark plug. To answer your question, once a year in the fall in October the city where I live has fall cleanup week where they pick up bulk garbage that won't fit in your can. It is an opportunity for people to get rid of any junk, I always go around looking for mowers and other gas powered machines. Back in October last year I scored 6 push mowers and a Simplicity Broadmoor riding mower with a 44" deck powered by a 16HP Briggs and Stratton Vanguard v-twin. The riding mower only needed a new battery and it started right up and runs great, the electric pto clutch even works and the deck works and it drives too. Crazy what people throw away.
I never would have guessed that the problem was the spark plug. That has never happened to me in 30 years of owning lawn equipment but I’ve never used those aftermarket plugs either.

Yes,my dads Honda GX35 powered line trimmer which is 21 years old now had an issue with the spark plug about a decade.ago which just about lead me to believe that it was a carburettor issue which was causing a hard starting issue & it was stalling & running rough. I checked the resistance between the outer & inner spark plug electrode with a multimeter when I found out that the spark plug had a short circuit in it so pinched a spark plug from his GX25 powered leaf blower to test it & it ran better. Note that there spark plugs are very small & they're a bit fragile so I didn't bother cleaning & regapping the spark plug electrodes so I ordered a new $2 AUD spark plug from China & it's still going good !
I had a similar issue with a pressure washer that was only 1 year old. I had a spark that seemed fine, but I ended up replacing the spark plug after doing everything else. It worked fine after that.
Nice find and fix. As they say a squirrel finds a good once in awhile! On sourcing the belt, use the belt numbers from red max and cross reference with Honda and others. They might be cheaper than thru red max.

Home garage i have a question: i have this project blower and the first problem is thats its a weedeater 25cc blower but the main problem is that the carb gets gas in but wont get in the primer bulb. I know it receives gas because when i take the carb apart, there is a bunch of gas and pressure released. So the primer bulb does not fill with gas. I have cleaned the carb top to bottom and jets to jets but i do not want to buy a new carb and not make a profit, and i am so tempted to drop it off at the scrap yard
you've already stated your position, if you can't get the carb to work, and you refuse to get a new carb, then the blower isn't going to get fixed. Either keep it for parts, or pass it on to someone else who'll make a profit on it.
i have a question this might get you or might not but i bought a new air filter and it fit but at full throttle it bogs down but when i remove the air filter it goes to full throttle im so confused plz help
The simple things should definitely be checked first. I learned that the hard way recently with my Toro SR with a GCV160 on it. It developed a weird knock during startup and shutdown toward the end of last season. I couldn’t find anything wrong and started to wonder if something was wrong in the low end of the engine. But I took the flywheel off to check the key, took the blade adapter off to check that key, did a valve adjustment which led to an oil leak (had to replace the cover), and recently ordered a new $32 blade adapter after reading an online post. Still no good and I started looking into replacement engines. As it turned out, one of the three engine/deck mounting bolts was loose. That was it. Tightened up and knock is gone. Can’t believe I didn’t check that first 🤦🏻♂️
I guess it would be a Magnetron because of a cheap knockoff on a Snapper. BUT I ended putting a drive gear in the rear end because of no grease and full of leaves with no stopper. Glad that was all it was. Happy weekend
Nice score! It's odd that an owner who would maintain the engine like that (clean oil, anyway) would discard the mower so easily. The choke is a minus, but I'd bet you get used to it quickly, since Hondas rarely require a 2nd pull to start. That engine should outlive the chassis several times over. Pop an oil seal into the governor shaft to keep the deck clean, the way you like it.
I have a question I have a Campbell hausfeld compressor it turns on but when it runs low on air it won’t turn back on but I can wait a few minutes it turns back on can you tell me what the problem is thank you
