Brings me back to the first videos of yours comparing the 100 and 200 series which helped me decide on a (200 series) for my family. We use the car for road trips as well and are more camping/beginner overland focused vs more hardcore rock crawling. Thanks again for helping alot of us make our decisions - good luck to anyone shopping !
Already made this decision, bought the 80 because it's more capable, cooler and cheaper, it's more enjoyable putting money into mod and restoration of a classic iconic vehicle I feel, maybe others would disagree and want something newer and more comfortable.
Here is my comparison... I have four 80-series and none of them have ever let me down. Bought a 1999... 100 series from a friend and immediately regretted it, because my sisters both have newer Sequoias. Within a few months the brakes went out in the thing and had to redo the master cylinder with a new one. It is a no rust rig that is double locked, but I would not wheel with it. Yes, a great overlander, but it's wider footprint and independent front suspension takes it out of any real off-road adventures where you would need to get past bigger gate keepers and harder trails.
I’d take the 80 all day, but I’m biased considering I own a 93 and 94 both triple locked. May sell one as I’m still on the hunt for a 97 collector edition. Great videos!!
I have a 1997 80 series and a 1998 special edition 80 series with 2 diesel tanks. Both have the 4.2 1HD turbo engine. I’m willing to sell the 97, but I’m located in Central America.
Overall the 200 is better for the majority for "overlanding" but for me I have more of an attachment to my 80 and feel it's much more capable without sacrificing much at all. Most people need the comfort and power of the 200 (or even the later 100) because they are usually only doing forest roads and mild off-roading. The destination to those places would be much more comfy in the 200.
If Toyota ever brought back the 80series with the famous 1hz motor that they still make today 4 the African market put a turbo and intercooler on it , built a 6speed manual gearbox and just upgraded the interior and left out all the modern computers and sensors and that shit kept it reliable That wagon will out sell any other 4x4 wagon on the market in the USA and Australia easy
Thanks for the new video. Like I said before, your videos inspired me to get my own white 200 series. I hate to see you sell either of those clean rides but good luck on the sale.
My 91 FJ has 320,000 miles everything original expect starter, exhaust, power steering, and of course lots of brake pads. Bulletproof! No head gasket issues Would take my 81’ 60 manual transmission over all cruisers
Wow bro you have awesome collection. I have 93 in perfect running engine 267000 miles white. Most mager work been done like replacing berfields joints and the oil pump seal and everything my self just by watching TH-cam. So easy and straightforward to replace parts . love working on it . I was wondering if you can tell me how much do you think it's worth. It also has a new paint job 4 years ago. It is 100% natural from California. Has new toyo 33's . Owner since 1999. 25 years. Took great care of it .I need money and I am not sure ? I can send you pictures.
A 1993 with 267 in white CA, no rust... I would say you are 17k-22k range with some pertinent maintenance complete. Depends on interior condition as well.
Love your vids and all the valuable information you drop. I'm hopefully picking up a 2009 LC today. My question for you, have you ever seen one that Gulf Coast Toyota port installed the gold sticker package (bumpers and down the sides on the bottom) and gold fender flares? If you want to see pics let me know where to send them. Thanks
Yes send pics to cruisingtheland@gmail.com or IG @Landcruiser949 I know that the South East had a separate importer for Land Cruisers and with the 100 series they did the same fender flare extentions. I had a White Land Cruiser with then, and removed them to see it is attached using no holes. Would like to see on a 200.
great videos mate, I love your comparisons. I ended up buying LX570 and importing it back to EU, where it's such a rarity. that is a good and bad thing I guess, but I love this car so much. In Europe we don't have that many opportunities to do hardcore off-roading and 200 series seemed to be the best choice. cheers
Best of the best suvs = a mandatory petroleum season pass.So I went ahead and purchased a near mint rare Atlantis blue mica 1999 ls400 with 32k invested.Best sedan ever built.
Yes, but a 80 series is better built for off road when things get difficult. Ultimately, I would want both in the driveway. Variety is the spice of life!
I’ve had my ‘94 for almost 30 years now and would never sell it, for me it’s the perfect rig. However, if I was just starting out now I’d definitely find the best 200 series I could find that was fairly priced. You could easily have it 30 years, build it up slowly, and maintain it well. I was never a fan of the 100, it just wasn’t visually appealing to me. Meticulously maintained 80’s are hard to come by and if you make a mistake on your purchase, the expense would be enormous.
awesome comparison!, I have a 1997 80 and I have a question, I'm considering the SCS F5 wheels but I don't know how much negative offset to chose, I do like an aggressive stance but I want it still practical with 33 12.5 r16, any advise?
I have spacers (Spidertrax) on the 89 to have the wheels come out a little more. On the Black Diesel (seen at the end and video lonk in description) has 17" wheels and 35s. The wheel is the Fuel Zephyr beadlock, and no spacer needed, as the offset has the wheels sit out further. the look is perfect. You can check their website to see the offset you are looking for.
Hi, what would you say regarding purchasing older Landcruisers regarding mileage? I mean with most cars over 200k is quite a lot, but with Landcruisers you really are good to go, or?
Wow awesome comparison video👍. Can’t believe you’re selling these beauties. Both are awesome. I am definitely loving the look of the 200 series. My wife drives a 2010 LX570 as her daily and we absolutely love it. I recently sold my 1997 LX450 which was my daily and I do miss it but I do prefer the comforts and power of the LC200/LX570. Really good price for both in my opinion. Especially in the excellent condition they’re in. 🤩 Mileage at over 200k for these is nothing, they last forever !
Camping daily driver and such… probably the 200. Drives nice, roomy, powerful. Overlanding… I’d go with the 80. Speed limits abroad are pretty low. In Latin America they were making the 80 up until about 2007 so there are tons on the road - and the 200 is a little flashy for overlanding. Driving through tiny village in a new car that looks expensive makes you feel like kind of a jerk… but 70s and 80s are sort of everywhere and most people won’t look twice.
@@CruisingTheLand I think a lot of it is that people, generally speaking, are very aware of how much newer vehicles cost. I’ve had numerous Uber / taxi drivers randomly point out 200 and 300 series land cruisers in parking lots or on the road. Not because they’re LC fans but because they know they’re about the most expensive SUV you can buy in Latin America. Even our gladiator gets a ridiculous amount of attention- first because they’re still very rare in Latin America and second because they cost over $100k new. We often see people taking pictures with it like it’s a Ferrari or something which is pretty strange. It’s strange… and definitely something I’ll consider when we choose a vehicle to explore Africa or return to South America in the future.

Yes, the best brand! It's from South Africa, a rack that has been enjoyed by them for years now finally available in US. You can message me cruisingtheland@gmail.com and I can put you in touch with the owner. It's a fully solid welded roof rack. Three 200lb guys can stand on it, Dove tailed, cross bars and bars running front to back. The ultimate in ruggedness. I love it, and price will surprise you, cheaper than the Front Runner, and this one is superior in every way. About 70lbs too as it's fully aluminum.
I FINALLY got me a GX 460. Been itching to get into a land cruiser for years. Been following your channels for years and love your informational videos. The 1FZ-FE is strong enough to cope with a super charger without sacrificing reliability. This motor responds very well to supercharging - good horsepower and torque gains while improving fuel economy. The brakes on 80 series are TERRIBLE and should be the first upgrade that is done before adding horsepower or weight.
but we cant get them in the U.S. new ...wish for a just a basic of road wagon ...all we get is 3 rows of leather luxury wagons ,with 2nd row ent screens and 2 sunroofs indpendent rear axle for a smooth ride and leg room for the 3rd row ... we have no good off road wagons in the us ,the 4 runner trd off road is our best no pay load or towing

315s , so almost 35s
Do you get any rub on the KDSS?
Wait.. in this video there are 2 200 series, both with 33 and 32.4" tires..I habe a 2016 with 35s and 3.5" lift.
Is the 200 series sold?
yes
40s are still the coolest
Got one of them...
Could you share a link to your listing for the 200 series you have for sale?
This video is the only place it is listed. I have not placed it on any classifies ads yet.
I’m seriously interested in your 200. Please let us know where it will be listed OR how to get in touch with you.
Where is the Retro stripe kit on 80 series from?
I just made it from some vinyl wrap I had left over.
Did you sell both of these already?
The 80 sold..The 200 is available. It is only mentioned on the YT, I have not put up a CL, Cargurus etc... not in rush, as I still love that LC!
Neither, I would get the 70 series... Brand new with old school reliability. That's why the 70s are still available.
but we cant get them in the U.S. new ...wish for a just a basic of road wagon ...all we get is 3 rows of leather luxury wagons ,with 2nd row ent screens and 2 sunroofs indpendent rear axle for a smooth ride and leg room for the 3rd row ... we have no good off road wagons in the us ,the 4 runner trd off road is our best no pay load or towing
200 if it was a diesel not a 3 row luxury wagon
Believe me 60 and 70 series are the most good looking land Cruiser. 200 and 80 are ugly as hell
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Sounds like you like boxy lines.
@@CruisingTheLand yesss

The fj55 of course
These are yuppy wagons
Fj80 yuppy?, notttttt.....
A 100
It was not an option.. lol
80 for overlanders. 200 for brolanders.
