    7:23 can you blame them though ? We got so many Street Fighter clones, that creating a non-Street Fighter clone seemed kind of impossible

    These videos really are underrated, you narrate with a controlled and calming voice. Not boring at all and the editing is well done and not all in your face. I really hope more people will see these videos I realize how much better this kind of documentary video is than those you see today. 👍

    Even if the original Super Smash Bros is an unique fighting game, it has few elements from Capcom and SNK's fighting games like special moves and bonus stages

    Wow, I love these gaming documentaries. I just discovered your channel, watching the PlayStation story part 1, and it seems I've discovered a treasure trove of really well edited, narrated, and researched videos that I could watch for days. I don't often sub on first viewing but I need to see PS part 2. I hope to spend a healthy number of hours and days with future uploads, as you deserve to be doing this full time. Keep on going and your channel is gonna boom. See you again for the next one ;-D

    I have a question: if the N64 had a PCM sound chip, would it allow the composers to compose CD-quality songs like the ones you'd hear in CD-based games

    • @RESRetro
      @RESRetro  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for watching and that's a Good question, I'll try answer to the best of my abilities! 😅
      So N64's reality co processor is actually surprisingly capable, I found this in my research: "The RSP is capable of a maximum of 100 channels of PCM at a time... It has a maximum sampling rate of 48 kHz with 16-bit audio"
      But as the chip is also used for some graphics processing, it could not be used 100% just for audio. So a separate audio chip would definitely be better,
      However surprisingly the main thing hindering audio quality in the N64 is actually storage space as high quality audio samples are quite large in size and the N64 cartridges didn't really offer much storage space on the cartridges, compared to CDs so audio would have to be heavily compressed to actually fit on the cartridge.
      I hope that helps answer your question :)

    • @lamiamekni2802
      @lamiamekni2802 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RESRetro that actually makes sense, but there's actually an audio lossless compression called SHN that came out in the early 90s not to mention many compsers could've used it

    • @lamiamekni2802
      @lamiamekni2802 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RESRetro you misspelled N64 as "N65"

    • @RESRetro
      @RESRetro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah that's very interesting, I guess it might not have been common knowledge in the game industry back then, it would be really interesting to someone pushing the audio limits of the N64 to see what it could be capable of.
      I remember my mind being blown when I played the world is not enough on the N64 which had voiced dialogue in cutscenes, as it was so rare on the system.
      Thanks for pointing out the n65 typo btw missed that typing on my phone 😅

    Hey RES, i know it's off-topic and weird, but if this game were to get an arcade port, which developer should do the porting, Capcom or Namco (please reply and tell me exactly why you made that choice)

    I'm a little confused, who exactly would be "Nintendo" in the inception/development section? Isn't something like Smash something just the CEO could sign off on, or is there more to it?

    • @RESRetro
      @RESRetro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, I'm afraid I kind of glossed over that in this script.
      So the development studio Hal labs, is not owned by, but closely partnered with Nintendo, who would fund and publish most of Hal labs games.
      So Hal labs would have to get Nintendo's approval on using Nintendo's own characters/franchises. Also Nintendo is generally very protective of where their characters appear and how they're portrayed so having them all together and fighting each other was something that hadn't been done before, so it was a bit of a risky concept initially.

    • @maahesghulainn9480
      @maahesghulainn9480 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RESRetro I guess my question is more, who were the heads AT Nintendo that would have to sign off to allow the game to be made. Though I looked up who were the leaders in the 90s and til Iwata took over at 2002, so I guess it was the previous Yamauchi heads they had to appeal to

    I know it's unrelated but... speaking of N64, the Atari Jaguar, the 32X and even the Virtual Boy came out in the fifth generation (AKA 32-bit/64-bit era) yet nobody complained about them using cartridges, plus the Jaguar came out after the 3DO (which was a fifth generation CD-based console) and again nobody complained about its cartridges, so what's the difference ?
