While Malaysians & Bruneians are like our siblings, Filipinos are like our half-sibling grew up in other household. They have things in common with us, but also things unfamiliar at the same time. Love from Indonesia. PS: Yes Thai people, we got your back too.
As a Filipino i agree that we're quite similar in looks and culture. Also some foods such as mi goreng. In the Philippines we call it pancit canton. It's also being exported i in my country ( instant in a pouch).
I've lived in SoCal for about five years, and have never gone out and explored LA's Filipinotown. I've never really tried to go because I can already make a good amount of the foods in my cuisine, and it's a point of pride for me, lol. But we can always get new ideas from expeditions like these, and this video makes me want to get out there. What a humbling and enlightening experience.
I used to work with a lot of Philipinos at a salmon cannery in Alaska, and there was often Philipine cuisine at the cafeteria for meal times, there was pretty much always Dinuguan, but it was called Chocolate Meat.

When the lady owner came out with a microphone, I cried laughing becs that very Filipino thing to do. When we have guests, we may bring out a videoke, sing, and rock the whole neighborhood becs we definitely love get-togethers 😆
Random but... I love Filipino people. Here in the UK, they are the friendliest of nurses IMO and I just came off the phone with one (rebooking an appointment) and she pronounced my surname PERFECTLY! She made my morning. I had to tell her how nicely she said my name and she seemed so happy. Effortlessly broke down Sou-a-ssou, which so many people find difficult and butcher all the time. E.g. Somassou, Sodomosou, Soussa etc. No exaggeration, people actually add and delete letters when pronouncing it.
I am pretty sure it’s not deliberate though but I understand how you feel about. I am glad you found someone who could pronounce your name the right way.

bellychon is something the Italians have been cooking for CENTURIES! the Filipino recently copied and pretend its cultural. Crispy Dinuguan is another Fake Food recently invented. The saddest part of the Video is when they try sooo hard to make the Sisig exotic by calling it pig’s face. When its just minced pork meat! Because 99% of people makinh Sisig have no idea, Real sisig never uses egg or mayonaise! Especially since 99% of Filipinos do not eat raw egg.

Hope to come home soon and start enjoying all these Food vlogs with Mark and Sonny while I am eating with my kids. Now that they are already 11 and 9, I'm pretty sure they'll love them too.

I just love the fact you can grill them yourselves out in the parking area in LA! Makes it even more feel authentic Filipino food. Would definitely visit this place. Reminds me of Dampa where you can buy your seafood in the market then take it to the restaurants nearby for them to cook it for you. I believe the actual "Mike Chen" did a video on that. 😅

It was once much bigger and more influential, but with the highway being built, dirt roads being turned into major streets, and most recently the extreme gentrification of the adjacent Silver Lake area, much of the old Filipino Town has been demolished or replaced with mansions and Starbucks. Now the real Filipino area is in Carson (just south of LAX). It is four times the size of the old Filipino Town at its height. The 2nd largest Filipino area in LA is (and has always been) in Glendale (home of the largest Armenian population outside of Yerevan.) Otherwise there are a dozen 'pocket-neighborhoods' in LA, San Bernardino, and Orange Counties; just look for a branch of a Seafood City Filipino grocery store and there will be a Filipino community nearby: restaurants, churches, bakeries and all.
